What do you think qualifies as the most important weapon in the game, and the least important?

*Note I said "important" not "effective": The idea being that weapon may be very effective (damaging), but perhaps another weapon fills the bill just as well, or maybe there just aren't that many scenarios where it's needed

My votes are:

Most: Cutlass ( I use it everywhere and it delivers)
Least: Pistol (It can be pretty devastating but I use the dagger for ranged attacks more often)

... oh and maybe tied for Most Important with the Cutlass would be the Ship's Broadside

The Cutlass would have to be it, seeing as it's the first, not reliant on ammo of any sort, most possessed, etc. The Dagger supports it with its choice of passivess, which is in turn supported by the Pistol with its passives. The Doll and Staff have the ability to help out each other in turn. The Grenade and Cannon each have some skills that benefit the other. The Sails have nothing to do with any of your weapons in terms of benefitting them, though they can influence the cannons of others.

I use the pistol and dagger the most. I like distance shots and both give me that. The cutless is good for the Navy. Voodoo I do use but just in certain situations, like when I need my exercise. LOL

My list of most important weapon:
1. Cutlass
Fast, powerful, especially when we have Blade Storm. Brawl useful to stun.
2. Voodoo Staff
Ideal for fighting large group of enemies. Flamming Skull reach very far
and with maxed skill point can deal 1200 damage.
When fighting seabeard or other lvl 30+ enemies i usually use two
Flamming Skulls then Brawl, cutlass combo plus Blade Storm or Life Drain.
3. Voodoo Doll
Heal friends. Attack several enemies. Self heal using Life Drain.
4. Pistol
Hex can stun gypsies, mollusks.
5. Grenade
Ammo cost gold. Can hurt ourselves. Siege Charge is fun though.
6. Dagger
Rarely use this one in real combat. Only use it to get rep to be honest.

1.voodoo doll that life drain saves my life and cash so i never buy tonics anymore its my emergency weapon its extremely reliable just attune and run away unless the enemy has voodoo doll or dagger or grenades
2.voodoo staff you just cant beat the wicked awesomeness known as flaming skull

3.cutlass get the reps from brawl and the kills from bladestorm and it looks cool

4.dagger now i can do viper nest the all awesome move that assasins kill me with

5.pistol i use this with hex eater against molusks to get reps for other weapons... a leveling tool for me to be honest
6.grenades why would anyone use these?!!? they cost money and if a seabeard is infront of you and you throw a siege charge it doesnt hit the seabeard it goes to far and they also hurt you if you get close whats up with that?!?!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

I actually am going to say Pistol would be most important.

Pistol can be built up wisely, and be your back up to everything else you work. Pistol if you notice is the only weapon not under a effect by other stats.
Barrage - canon, grenade.
Blade instinct - cutlass, dagger.
Spirit mastery - doll, staff.

Pistol can be taken way ahead of other skills at first quite easily. Setting aim accuracy up for critters most wouldn't touch at a lower levels.
Pistol levels itself with hex shot, something starts to overwhelm you, a few aimed bane shots its dead. Hex shot and making everything else so easy to work would be quite a different game with out it. I can't really think of another weapon, that if it was gone would effect most the work you do on all others.

Grenade probably least important by its design. For it to be worked up and effective, such as siege bomb, the skill needs to be basically maxed so then points can be spent. At the point it is max, and you got massive damage in this, you get no rep. The grenade type needed to build it is at a low amount, and turns it into a choir. It is nice for show to go throw a grenade and watch like 6 things die in one hit, but basically that is all it is show.

Doll - drain life is a life saver. The overall kill item if you get over your head with something. Shackles can stop a target for a recovery as well.
Staff - flaming skull killing everything in line.
Dagger - viper nest, killing everything left from staff. Throw dirt was fun on seabeards, and watching them miss ya.
Cutlass probably is the last thing I pull out cause dagger is recharging of something, so blade storm does well against a single target.

Interesting take Poison... the polar opposite of mine kind of, but you make some good points. Maybe I'll take a closer look at pistol (darn I was hoping there was a weapon that maybe I wouldn't have to maintain skill points on).

You know. If you think about it.. every weapon serves its purpose and does its job. Every weapons roll (i.e. Doll - Healer/Debuffer Dagger - DPS and AoE(Damage per second and area of effect) Cutlass - Nuke and some AoE. etc. etc. etc.) is the same worth as every roll.

For me, the weapons are listed in order I like them starting with the best, ending in the worst, and my reasons why I like them.... [Hope this is a help.]


#1 Cutlass... Gives you more health when you level it!! Fill Endurance!!!

#2 Voodoo Doll... Only weapon in your arsenal that can HEAL YOU!!! Even when it's mastered, you can still benefit from changing from and unmastered weapon to it, use life drain to heal yourself, saving COSTLY tonics for when you REALLY need them!!! [Oh yeah, attune noobz.. they freak out.. Depending on your level of humor, you may find this funny..] Fill Focus and Life Drain, after that, it's up to you if you want to use it to Heal/Cure or Kill..

#3 Dagger... I just love the eviscerate, but that's just me Ok, i'm not really sure what the best methods for this is, but I fill all the top circles and put one skill in each of the others, EXCEPT Throw Dirt!!!

#4 Pistol... It can take down LVL 40's even when it's only a LVL 15, provided your health is high enough to endure the beating you get from the LVL 40's... I filled Shoot, Take Aim, Lead, will be putting two points on each of the other shots and only one on Sharp Shooter..

#5 Cannon... OMG, why did I master this???? I love using my cannons!!! But now I get 0 reps, bummer!!! I didn't waste any points this time on Chain Shot or Grape Shot, what a waste they were!!!

#6 Voodoo Staff... This is cool, but I still don't have Desolation, but when I do, I'm filling it up!!! [Ok, I only want it to SHOW OFF.. yeah, I'll be on Abassa showing off one day.. LOL..]

#7 Grenades... Ok, so I really think these should have been our FIRST weapon since I find it utterly useless minus filling Determination for regenerating health faster.

#8 Sailing... Doesn't someone else want to Pilot/Drive/Steer My Ship For Me??? Ok, I'm probably the only one EVER who HATES to sail!!! I did fill my Treasure Sense though.

My order of importance:

1. Voodoo Doll (Attune many enemies, heal pirates in need, and personal tonic)
2. Cutlass (Blade storm is just damn cool)
3. Pistol (hex eater rules against high level enemies)
4. Grenades (Siege charges are fun!)
5. Staff (Thought it would be amazing when i reached 30, not that amazed by it)
6. Dagger (Never really interested me)
