Isla Tormenta is Spanish for Storm island (The island is said to be translated as Island of Torment).
Isla Perdida is Spanish for Lost Island.
Ile d'Etable de Porc is French for Stable Island of Pork
Hope these translations will help.
It is Crabs Island. Otherwise it should be called Isla De Cangrejos.

And Torment in spanish is Tormento.
Tormenta means Storm. Tormento means suffering.

Thanks for the pointer TSC. I accidentally added "of" to the correct translation. And I parenthesized Island of Torment because it is believed to be the English translation. I got another translation of a POTC Movie island, Isla de Muerta, translated to english from spanish as Dead Island.

These Translations give me an idea for some island names... what about Skeleton Island or Island of the Doomed?

Isla del Esqueleto
Isla de los Condenados

Mate, if you want to find out what they mean, try the Pirate Translator on the POTCO site.

Muerta is feminine. As in She is dead = Ella esta Muerta. Muerto, as in dead man. Muerte is Death itself. If they would add Del or De La it would make more sense.

Damned or Doomed. Doomed is used more to describe someone that is lost or gone.

Most of their translations are a bit incorrect. Isla de Muerta makes no sense in spanish. Some in-game translations are very very wrong. Someone says in-game "Via con Dios". That means Road With God. It should have said "Vaya".

Which brings another issue. It occurs to me that some of the movie places and in game spanish might be wrong because the characters were saying the words wrong. I mean they were pirates and I highly doubt their spanish was any good to begin with. However that is the easy answer to some of this stuff. They should have have a bit more attention to some of these details both in-game as well as in the movies.

The real problem here is, when translating, people have different views of what the translations are.(or two people are using two different translators. )

Personally, unless there's a huge mistake, I'm not going to worry about it. It's not like they're mistaking the word skeleton with rabbit. Can you imagine that happening with an island? Instead of something such as "Red Skeleton island" you'd have "Red Bunny Island". Bad example, but still.

I know what you mean. The thing to me is that to be able to translate properly you must have a very good understanding of spanish which is obvious to me that POTC & POTCO writers and translators didn't have or just didn't care enough. Spanish uses a lot of gender something that English doesn't do much. English is much less complicated than Spanish, I like the simplicity of the language.

When translating something its more about what you are trying to say, and not much word by word. If that makes sense. But I do see your point and that is why I really don't care about the game translations. Unless its something that is clearly wrong or offensive then yes I will send POTCO a report.

See, this is where the developers, and POTCO writers totally confuse me. Are they one in the same, or separate? Do the developers also do the writing? It would explain why translations aren't perfect, that's for sure. Developers probably spent more time in math class, and training for online game development than Spanish, where as someone that writes would probably study Spanish, for translations in books.

Maybe the developers and writers are separate, only the writers weren't expecting to be a part of a game where they needed Spanish?

I don't plan on learning Spanish much, myself, but if you think about it, translation from Spanish isn't set in stone. For some spanish words, there's no translation into English.(rare, from what I know about the language) And there are also languages in English which don't translate perfectly, either. The problem is, we can never really say that one translation is more correct than another.

I do, however, hope that if they don't already have a Spanish translator with them, they should try to get one.

Unforunately, Italy doesn't have any Carribean islands, and indeed never did. Seeing as Italian is the only non-English language I can speak fluently, I'm pretty useless on this topic.
