Isla Cangrejos

Just thought this curious. Who, besides me, knew that Isla Cangrejos means 'Island of the Crabs'? :laughks2:

Guess it does.. I've never really thought about what the islands mean :mybadki6:

Dog Firestack 08-19-2010 03:02 PM

I knew that........

I did know that, lovely name, but.... crabs are creepy.
My favorite area name is Mar de Plata, or Seas of Silver.

Yep, I knew that - and if you want to go there, think about Tortuga.
In English, it would be called "Turtle." Now who wants to go on an island named Turtle, it just makes it sound like the island itself is a giant turtle...

Isla Tormenta ( I think ) = Island of Storms.

On the part about Tortuga, I think there's been some confusion. It means 'tortoise', not turtle. Let's see... Isla Tormenta means Lost Island, Isla de la Avaricia means (Quite obviously) Island of the Avarice/Greed, and I think Ile d'Etable de Porc roughly means 'Stable Island of Pork'. :laughks2:

That's good to know. I never really happened to think about what the islands translated into English mean... hmm.
Thanks for that info!

Isla Tormenta means Storm Island. Isla Perdida means Lost Island.

Turtle is Tortuga.
PDF is Fathers of The Fire.
Isla Cangrejos is Crabs Island.

Mar De Plata is weird because that is not in the Caribbean. That's in Argentina.

I am very fluent in spanish. And I approve these translations.

I think it translates to something along the lines of "Pig Pen Island" :laughks2:

Robin Yerloot 08-21-2010 04:38 PM

I knew that, along with many of the other translations.

Tiberius Fireskull 08-21-2010 05:00 PM

I think that Isle d'Estable de Porc must mean something along the lines of "Island of Porc's Establishment".

I got an unofficial list of Translated island names:
Isla de la Avaricia is Spanish for Island of Greed.
Padres Del Fuego is Spanish for Fathers of the Fire.
Isla Tortuga is Spanish for Turtle Island.
Isla Cangrejos is Spanish for Island of Crabs.
Isla Tormenta is Spanish for Storm island (The island is said to be translated as Island of Torment).
Isla Perdida is Spanish for Lost Island.
Ile d'Etable de Porc is French for Stable Island of Pork :laughks2:
Hope these translations will help.
