Guild Motivators - Ideas?

As an officer in the Uncle's Mafia Guild since March, I have put together countless competitions and morale boosting events - either ingame, through our own site (http://unclesmafia.guildlaunch.com) or X-fire.

We've done things like member photo contests, screenshot contests, Kill-a-thon and Sink-a-thon events. We've given away MP3 players, pirate gear - even an X-box 360 last year.

So, my question is - What do you other guildies do to motivate your members? I'm always looking for fresh ideas...

In the past Martial Magic, has always just played together. We've made plans, i.e. ("who wants to meet up tomorrow afternoon on abassa?") I think morale isn't really an issue in an active guild, its not like you'll face a mutany. But, in this economy a few gifts or giveaways might be appreciated. Your regular players will just be happy with your company though. (IMO/IME)

Just before I read your post, I considered buying some game cards to raffle off to some of our little grey friends. Maybe even a hide-and-seek game. (find so-and-so [no TP'ing] and receive a game card number.) I'm not sure I would want to get involved with mailing/shipping things to people I don't know in real life but a Whisper Chat with a card number would be okay.

Probably a lot of guilds have had some different events and such to try to keep enthusiasim. One method we used is having all officers have a challenge for regular members.

This was a first phase to players wanting to become officers, rather than something like you have a high level. Some tough some tedious. It did give a chance for everyone to try some different things, officers using some imagination in a challenge, as well as others trying some of these.

Giving game passes and things were also something we did as well.

Get the entire guild to send a request to DISNEY, we want new content and things to do. It shouldn't be up to all players or GM's to try to make something out of things we are not getting.

The only real active guild I was in, before it went inactive, just sailed together alot: helped to build up a tough tool to level (the cannon), and provided big booty.

It's good to hear that other guilds occasionally face the same issues.

For the record the Uncle's Mafia has done other morale boosters.

1) Uncle's Mafia Galley Grub Cookbook - Members posted recipes. A little work with a desktop publishing program made a nice Adobe Acrobat book.

2) Women of the Uncle's Mafia Calendar - Female pirates took screenshots of themselves and we added them to a calendar document. Members could download it from our site. We're planning a male version sometime (LOL).

3) Pirate Olympics - A whole variety of events (PvP, Grenade Shotput, etc.)

4) PvP Tourneys

5) Posting Top 5 Killers / Sinkers etc. on our site.

6) GET X-FIRE! If you don't have it already, get it. This allows player to hold voice chats while playing. Brings up the fun value if you can cut up with each other as well improve your performance as a team.
