SvS hitting damaged areas

Since the new SvS puts a big premium on hitting areas of the ship that are already damaged (a 10-fold increase in cannon damage if you hit an already damaged area!!) Has anyone noticed that it's not exactly clear where these damaged areas are?

I've hit right on a burning section of hull and get the low level points, then hit just off to one side and get the high level points. Plus some shots that miss the hull and hit the deck or cabin seem to score big. The weak areas seem to be randomly "around" where you see signs of damage (fires, holes etc.) but not right on them. Makes it kind of hard to hit them.

Also anyone have any idea how long you have to bang away before you create a damaged area. With the 10x reduction in cannon damage on virgin hull the difference between my iron shot and my thunderbolts isn't really that great (22pt vs 81pts. = 59 pts difference)

Maybe I should try and damage the hull with iron shot and only use T-bolts on already damaged areas. You can go through a lot of T-bolts in SvS!

It could be the movement of the ocean that changes you shot placement. It is more noticeable in smaller boats, but if you can pick up on the timing you can throw stikes everytime.

Ok ive done some math with this as well and ill tell you what ive found out.

Youll notice on your HUD when attacking enemy ships there are these green bars around a sort of arrow looking shape, when the green is gone the armor is gone on that side. there is the front of the ship, a front quarter, rear quarter and rear of the ship. there seem to be 6 or 8 areas of a ship (also keep in mind that different ships have strong and weak points.)like i said there are either 6 or 8 sides of a ship. There may or may not be front and rear quarters but there seems to be. Just keep hitting the same area repeatedly.

To open a weak spot quickly on each ship type attack galleons on the front and sides, frigates at the rear and sides, and sloops in front or rear.

Ok now for what ive found out, I have lvl 5 thundershot on my cannons, if i hit a ship on the side with 0 points in barrage and no crew with the hulls damaged im doing 832 damage. now once i upgrade barrage to lvl 5 get a crew of 3 ppl and hit at the rear of the ship(25% damage bonus remember) and the hulls are weakened ill be doing 1625 in damage with my thunder shot, currently lvl 17 cannons so its gonna be a lil bit before i start upgrading fury, ill put 4 points in it when all is said and done. Oh with the 1 point i currently have in barrage and hitting the rear of the ship im hitting for nearly 1100 points.

BTW Im Mythic, I captain the Savage Demon(war sloop) I solo mostly and Im fast as hell. Bring it on ya Spanairds. Ill be playing on the first Ideal server available when I PvP so come and get some.
