Lightbulb Money Lending

Who thinks you should be able to lend money to a friend? And how do you think it should be done? I think that it should be like this: when you borrow money from someone, everytime you get money it automatically goes to the other person who you borrowed it from until you've payed it off.

I dont think a trade system would benefit the game at all. Historically, MMORPG's that have trade systems eventually have horrible economies that are slanted towards those with the money.

One of the things that draws me to play this game is the fact that you have to earn what you have and there are no hand-outs, twinking of alts, begging, etc.

No offense, but unless you failed to notice, this game is not about being historically accurate it's about the movie's, and tradeing was done then.

Please no GOLD FARMERS!!! Disney wont allow it anyways. There is a way to trade in the game or lend/borrow/give. However, considering we are pirates, theres no honor system!

I agree with you 100%. I didnt quite understand a prior response/comment regarding movies vs historical accuracy, as the "historical" reference had nothing to do with the game being historically accurate, but was a reference to other games that attempt to incorporate a trade system.

Regarding trading in the movies? I remember a scene where they traded an undead monkey for Tia's assistance. I also remember Jack changing the deal himself without her permission by acquiring/stealing a few trinkets at the same time... some trade system the movie portrays! I think things in the game are best as is. If anything, it would be nice to have an easier means of transferring gold from one pirate to the next... no strings.

Lost to the person your giving money to on the Holdem tables. Padres has higher buy-ins.

My comment was not about the accurateness of the movie, it was about MMORPG's (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) such as EQ, EQ2, WoW, etc. Once an in-game economy is created that allows players to transfer money & items, then the game dynamic changes completely. Suddenly it becomes about who has the most money, farmers will be out in force plundering in-game money to sell illegally offline for real money, items will be priced/traded for based on demand which inevitably gets out of control to the point where players starting out new or casual players cannot compete. Granted the 65k cap is in place but still.

I think Disney has it right at the moment, in that there are "trades" between you and the NPC's via questing (i.e. bribe the barkeep with 10 gold, deliver this rum to Flatt's, etc).

Allowing players to trade gold, while well-intentioned, would fuel twinking by allowing players to buy items they otherwise can't afford or shouldn't be able to afford yet based on their level (i.e. Lvl 2's loaned 60k for a War Frig).

Just saying, it's a good well-intentioned idea but in the past in other games it has destroyed the fun factor.

We had a guild tax in my last game, which the guild officers could then give out to people. All that happened with that was people would join, get enough money to buy a big ship, then leave for the next guild to get money to kit it out.

It ruined the game for me really as I had done all that off my own back.

I hear from friends who play WoW about the beggars and gold farmers. They hate them.

One thing

Having transfered money to other players recently I noticed that after you make your first money transfer and attempt to make a second the computer players at the table refuse to fold under any circumstances. With the amount of money we were trading being so high we could not take the chance of the computer winning so we had to stop trading and restart the game. Later we learned that if you just change servers after every large trade the computer players can be raised out of a hand so you can safely make your trade. Just FYI for all.
