Question Changing Guilds

I have been with POTC for about 3 months now, and have just recently joined my third guild since joining. I was wondering if any of you have ever experienced this as well.

The reason for leaving the previous 2 guilds is the GM disappearing from the game. The 1st guilds GM was banned from POTC for giving out to much personal info in the local chats on various occasions.

The guild we formed after that one, the GM we had just up stopped playing, it has been 2 months now since we have last seen him.

I understand people have other lives outside of POTC (including myself), but I feel that in order for guilds to be successful you need an active GM involved.

Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks-Dan

Ours (War Wenches) Has only been around since Feb. 5. So as it goes we are a noob guild. I started it as soon as I had unlimited and most of the officers and myself have made our way throught this together. We watched our level 5 and 6 pirates grow into their high 30's and a 40.

We have had guild members just dissapear on us as well. I think people comeing and going is just part of the game and an MMO. However I can see a sence of togetherness with the pirates that thave "grown-up" together compared to those that don't. Either that or I got lucky with a GREAT group of people in my guild.

I also feel that the limitations that Disney places on us has a lot to do with people dissapearing. It can get VERRY frustrating not being agle to communicate. However, we found a way around it. And, we have became great friends.

YES BIG D WETHER YOU LIKED IT OR NOT!!!! Most of our guild has became "real life" friends......ok rambling over

I agree - a GM should be active enough to keep their guild going smoothly. However, there can be real life issues in which the GM can't communicate with the guild sufficiently. If a guild is truly "strong" (as in, they can get through problems themselves) with good officers, the officers can keep the guild going. I know I'm a very active player so when I gave up on joining other guilds I created my own. It's crucial to let your members know that you're there - the person who started the guild you're in is THERE. Or, the officer who guilded so many people is there. It shows how strong you can become from being active and reassuring your members so they always have support.

I do know that having a GM present in the guild is very crucial. I mean who wants to join a guild where even after months of hard work and service, theres no way to even be promoted. Its also not just about that. The creator of the clan dont give a rats *** about it, why should we? I am a GM of one of TEC and I know if I quit playing it many would just falter and either join another or just quit all together.

Its nice to see the GMs active in the guild. Gives a higher morale and lets you know that if anything happens, youve got someone to count on it if u need it. Its also very helpful if your guild is good friends. I know I've made many friends in mine and they will continue to grow.

I agree. My Guild consists currently of me and me only, so when I don't play, it's just me that I'm out cheating time on. Then again, I use the test pirate more often than the real one, in case of updates coming along that would sting for any points invested.

I'm currently the GM of my own guild. About the only thing that bugs me are the few members who pester me to "make them an officer".

I currently have two officers (my only actual recruits into the guild) who handle most of the recruiting. We were in another guild (that losts it's GM and both officers) and played together extensively.

Having some guy who just got into the guild bugging me for officer status (all it lets him do is recruit) is annoying.

Hell, we had one guy leave the guild, then decide he didn't like his new one and wanted to come back.

Not five minutes after he came back in, he was bugging me for officer status!

I've got my eye on a couple of our other members for officer status though. They're not necessarily the highest level players in the guild, or the oldest. But they have the sense of teamwork and fair play (in piratical terms) that I REALLY want to see in all of our guild members.

Guildmasters do not necessarily need to be very active, but need to know how guilds work. I've been a guildmaster/officer in a guild since Beta 1, and a guildmaster since Beta 2, so I know better than almost anyone how guilds work. I'm still learning, but I think I've got it down - the key to a strong guild is OFFICERS.

Pretend like your officers are guildmasters - they must demand respect. Your officers must also share the same qualities that you look for in guild members - loyalty, good judgment, good teamwork, and a decent level. The reason I say decent level is: if you have level 30 players and a level 20 officer, those players won't give the officer ANY respect.

If you are switching guilds, you are welcome to join mine. We are a small, tightly knit guild of about 30. Let me know and I'll send you a guild code!

I disagree... it's the personality that matters, not the level. Some good leaders aren't high levels and for those that are, they weren't always. Besides, some members never even see the officers, and they still respect their status even if they don't know they might be level 1.

I do understand that running a guild can be very hard and frustrating at times, but if you want to run a successful guild, you can't rely on yourself alone. If you have real life problems to handle that would cause you to be on not as much, it's good to have reliable officers to run it. I'm very up to date with my guild and always try to keep it in check. I had to make a lot of changes to keep it in order, and I had people leave because of this. But to me, that only shows who's loyal and who's not. The people that I trust the most I promoted to co GM, not because of level, but because their active members, get along well, help a lot, and are mature. And I myself treat them and everyone else very fairly. I bet some people are like "Oh I'm guildmaster so respect me." or "I don't care if you need help or not! Get a friend!" Those kinds of people bother me because a guildmaster does deserve respect but so does every other guild member. Guilds are like a group of friends or a clan of some sort that help each other out and meet other people, it's not surprising to me that some guildmasters just don't get this........

My opinion is and always will be that a good guildmaster makes the rules, makes sure that everything is in order, tries to keep an equal balance between real life and virtual reality, but when the GM can't be on anymore for reasons, it's the officer's (in my case co GM's and officer's) responsibilty to run the guild by either staying in, or choosing a new GM and creating another guild. IF THEY CARE. Like Angel said, if the GM doesn't give a rat's about the guild, the other officers and members shouldn't either.

My guild has grown very close. We're pretty small (only 22 members), but we're good. Currently, including myself, I have two members to each officer, approximately. I jsut promoted a friend to officer status, but he's a level 25. My staff, all 30 plus, all agreed before we promoted him. I don't think the level matters, it's what your attitude, and some of your weapons are. Just my 2 cents.

English Pirates have a lot of members, but I suspect there are quite a few who are inactive now Come on D let us access the XD site so I can see who needs kicking).

There are a core of people who I have made officers in the guild - My Wife (of course), a freind I convinced to join me from another game, a great lady (Hi Anne) who gave me and my better half loads of help when we had just started and a coupla other players. We have a good rapport and have (I hope) the respect of our guild members.

We have also has our fair share of officer wannabes. We explain that they have to show the willingness to help their fellow guild members, even if only with verbal advice, the stamina and loyalty to be in the guild for more than a few hours, and friendliness that I think keeps a guild together.

If I was to create a guild again, I would probably be a little more choosy on who I invited, but then again I would not have so many guild members that are fun to help out, and are kind and polite enough to say thanks afterwards. The thanks make the effort (no matter how big or small) very worthwhile. I feel like I have earned a little more respect as GM.

I dont think notoriety is the base behind being an officer also. I do have many of my officers baby pirates in the guild that are officer as well. Just cause they're lvl 5 dont mean they dont know what they are doin and cant help out. Its the person behind the pirate that we've all grown to love and its that person that is the officer. They know how to get the job done and help out when needed.

The Elite Circle has almost 100 members, and we all pretty much know eachother and will go to bat for eachother at any time. Its not about hte numbers or levels...its about the respect and friendships that form. As with another guild I'm in "War Wenches". Ive only been in there a short time but I have already formed strong bonds with all of them (even the guys who help them).

So yes, Guild hopping may happen until you can find the one that fits you like a glove.

I agree with Angel. Level has NOTHING to do with why we promote a pirate. Most of our officers have more than one pirate in the guild. Each pirate they have is an officer, even little LV 13 Nell which is Misty's second.

As angel said we promote the PERSON not the PIRATE.
