POTCO Dieing?
I have notice alot lately, that the servers are getting quieter and the game is not getting any better, every time they do there maintence they don't release it in there release notes saying that disney is starting to get "lazy".
Another fact is that if you seriously have "nothing" better to do or can't find a better game to move on to and you don't mind doing the same routine over and over again, then I guess pirates online is a good game for you, if you switch between solitare and freecell. The game seems like there nothing new, the new weapons update is suppose to be out by April so they say. Quoted from disney's official site: Arm Yourself With Brand-New Weapons! March 24 2008 New weapons are coming soon to Pirates Online, bringing with them more damage, faster reload rates, special effects, and more! You can look forward to new voodoo dolls, daggers, voodoo staffs, and pistols. These new weapons will be available later this month on the Test server, and will be hitting the live game in April. NoW! you can see the obviously stated "soon" and I remember reading that when it said that it would hit our public servers sometime in April, it's obvious something is not goin right at Disney's Developement studio, I can say though, that since this game is disney and it's was "awarded" best online game, I would like to see what big game reviewers like Gamespy,IGN,G4, all have to say about this game, "It's all fun in the beginning until about you hit level 40 and got alll your quest done and maxed out all your weapons, and there's nothing to do and your stuck in a World of Warcraft situation back in Beta days waiting for the (next big update) to be released, wait......no........scratch that, World of Warcraft had plenty of things to do while you waited around for the next big update". I personally can't compare the two games because there two diffrent company's with two diffrent develope teams with two diffrent attitudes on the takes of the way the develope games, disney had potiental with this game, it could have been another big hit like World of Warcraft with over 9million active accounts worldwide, but it seems to be that disney has that stick so far up there ___ and with the high pride of how they are, I guess there not looking for fame or fortune. I personally loved the game I played it for hours on end, and had my fun and bad day's plundering, but i think it's time to hang up the cutless and let it go. save my $10 doller monthly sub and spend it on a case of Redbull or something, the game seems like it hit it's end, untill there's another big update release.

Considering that this game is only a few months old (live rather than beta) and Warcraft has been around for about 3 years I think you are being a little unfair.
I believe it was 2 years before Blizzard bought out there first proper upgrade to the game (Burning Crusades). Disney have so far given us some (albeit small) upgrades already. We can now personalise our avatars much more than we could when the games first started. Numerous bugs have been fixed (more still to fix, but some have been done). We have been promised new weapons on the live server in April. In my country it is still April and still about 2 weeks yet to go. Still time for the new weapons to appear. This is a new game and being Disney, is aimed more to the younger players. I have done my Black Pearl Quest, but now spend my time helping out the lower levels in the guild to catch up and then through the final battle. I have not been mad intent on maxing out on my weapons, but I am using more of my lower level weapons when helping my guild members. I can only say to give it a chance. We are due an upgrade in summer. I look forward to that and hope it is early summer rather than late. Any longer and Disney will lose people. If you are looking for a mature game with lots to do, go try World of Warcraft. If you wanna be a pirate. Let POTCO mature and then come back. |

Beautiful letdown - can I ask a question? If you have so many issues with Disney games, why do you sign up for them? If they are as bad as you say, why keep playing them? there must be other games out there that would live up to your expectations?

I do play other games, but unless Disney does something big soon, then I'll keep playing if not then I won't.

I agree, If you don't like it, well, than don't play. Simple.
This game , like all Disney games, is intended for the casual gamer. I agree that the grind is sometimes annoying, but I like that if I only have a half hour here and there to play, I still can feel like I accomplished something. Like just now, I had a whopping fifteen minutes to play, and managed to complete a quest on one of my baby pirates. Works for me. |

Let's slow down for a second
Quote:
Letdown is apparently a previous Disney customer so he has a different viewpoint. Judging from what I am seeing in game there are still a lot of new people coming into the game- some free and some paying. If all I saw were Gray tags I would think that there's a problem. So new people are coming in. That being said I'm not seeing a huge amount of high level players. Whether they're hiding in PvP (which I don't care for) or not playing at the times I am on or stopped playing, I can't say. It's probably a mix of all three. I went pretty quickly through the ranks and was a bit disappointed with the boss battle. Then I started leveling weapons and I run hot and cold on that too. But then I got more involved with some guilds and working more of the social aspect of the game. It is fun to help a low level character once in a while or help a guildmate on a quest or level their weapons. There are some new quests coming (the weapons) which if taken a little more slowly should hold most people over until the big release happens this summer (which technically ends Sept 21). Also if the double rep weekend worked out well numbers wise, they might offer that again too. I just hope the hours are more accommodating the next time. There are certainly things that can be done better, but it's not all bad. If you are unhappy, I would suggest suspending your paid account and log on as a free member from time to time to keep up with what's going on. If after the summer you're still not happy you can quit. But to bail out now seems a bit early. I plan on at least giving it a year before giving up on it. And if all you want to do is complain and troll the boards, I would ask that you don't. (The Mods might have a different take on that last one) My $0.02, your mileage may vary. |

One is only doing weapons, no quests, and the other two are trying to keep a balance with questing and weapon work.I figure others are doing the same. Every time you see a lower level pirate with a founders coin over their heads, you can rest assured it's someone who has another, high level, pirate out there. So, the higher level pirates are out there, they're just "starting over". Back to topic....

When WOW was released, it had hundreds and hundreds of quests. Multiple classes. Tons of equipment. A huge playing area. This game was released with only a handful of quests and 1 class. You cannot even come close to comparing the 2 games. Basically, the way the game is now, it will have a very high turnover rate of players. I mean, really. You play the game for 2 to 4 months, get 1 of each warship, master a couple weapons, sailing, and cannon, finish the black pearl quest and then you get bored and leave. Some other kid comes in to take your place. This game simply does not have enough content to keep players. You can master a pirate in a very short time compared to other MMO's, and once you do there is very little point in creating another pirate as it's just a slightly tweaked version of your first pirate. I figure I have about another month or two and it will be time for me to move on. |

simple answer for this.... don't make promises that can't be kept, pirates has such a future if disney get's the ball rolling. if not it will die out very soon like it or not, and as for the casual gamer remark this game was designed for childern but adults enjoy playing as well and i relaly think disney should relize this and update to make everyone happy. |

I think that the game is geared more towards the casual gamer. The ones who play when they have a little time. Not so much for the gamer who sits down for 5 hours a night. One of their loading screen tips is to quit and go outside after 2 hours. I'm a casual adult player who has been on Pirates for about 2 months. I still find the game fun and always have something to do because I don't play the game to death. I only have 1 pirate (Lvl15) and am only 1% done with the Black Pearl Quest....though admittedly not really trying on that. I think a lot of people are in the same boat (maybe aside from the lack of any BP completion).
Disney is well aware of the fact that many adults play this game....just as they know many adults go to Disney World. I'm sure they're trying and I'm sure a lot of the devs are saddened to see their hard work malfunctioning and by not getting updates out on time. You people act like Blizzard has never lied to you about dates *cough* StarCraftII *cough* |
