Question Skills problem...

When I started I was just placing sp wherever. I'm just wondering what I should do with the rest of my sp.

For my cannon my stats are,
Level 9
Shoot - 2
Round Shot - 2
Chain Shot - 2
Firebrand - 2
Rapid Reload - 2

For my Sailing,
Level 10
Left Broadside - 3
Right Broadside - 3
Full Sail - 2
Come About - 1
Windcatcher - 1

Sword,
Level 8
Hack - 2
Slash - 2
Cleave - 2
Sweep - 2
Brawl - 1

Pistol,
Level 7
Shoot - 2
Take Aim - 2
Lead Shot - 1
Venom Shot - 2
Bane Shot - 1

Voodoo,
Level 11
Attune - 2
Poke - 3
Swarm - 3
Heal - 2
Curse - 1
Scorch - 1

Dagger
Level 5
Cut - 2
Swipe - 2
Ase - 1
Adder - 1

I'm just wondering what I should do with my next 5 sp in each, i.e. like save up all my points in cannon and then put them in lighting.

Thanks guys.

Tuning your pirate's SP really depends on what you are planning to do with him/her. The template I have for PvP is much different than the one I have for having fun, which is different than the one I have for general play (questing, looting, plundering, assisting).

Many of us... By "many of us," I mean a couple of us... By "a couple of us," I mean I have had to go through several builds before I found what I like. Eustace is pretty much my tester. He tries all the skills and abilities and instructs my other pirates what skills they want to use.

Long story short, just let us know what you are planning to do with the pirate and everyone here will be more than happy to give their input, even if they have conflicting ideas.

Loot Hard!

To my untrained eye everything looks like a good foundation (similar to what I had at that point). But I'll give the disclaimer that I'm not into PvP that much so if you are, you might need to adjust some stuff.

In cannon and sailing, start looking at the passive skills which will start to become available. I am not a big fan of "Open Fire" and would like to have that point back. For the broadsides, I would take them to 5 on one side and 4 on the other so you have a slightly lighter touch if you're finishing off a flagship for boarding (I have sunk more than I care to count because I needed 1 more shot).

Also chain shot is another one of those that I'm sure sounded really cool in the developers meeting but didn't quite turn out as intended.

Sword looks good - again start filling the passives. A point or two in Parry is very helpful. I had my doll out and my back to an enemy and I still managed to "Parry" an incoming strike. It doesn't make sense but that's the way the game works. And endurance is 25 health points a pop.

On the Pistol, I loaded up the skills that applied to all the ammo types instead of individual ammo types. I would concentrate on Shoot, Take Aim and Sharpshooter (when it unlocks) and use 1 point to unlock the various ammo types as they become available. I would put a point or two in Dodge and Eagle Eye when they come up. Sharpshooter is key because it doesn't matter how many points you have in an ammo type when all you see is "Miss" and I watched a guildmate miss 5 times in a row not a big deal against a rock crab, but something bigger...

Dagger I unlocked skills as they came available and loaded up on Finesse as soon as I could. This might be a good one to save your points for until it frees up.

For the doll, I would up the attune (stopping at 4) and again unlock skills. The passives here aren't as good (Focus is irrelevant once you get the Staff and you get vodoo points from other levels) and Spirt Ward is good once you have everything else where you want it. I put quite a bit in Heal and Cure. Of course if you do more solo stuff and don't care about healing you can put those points in more offensive hexes. As you get higher in levels, save some points so you can put 2 or 3 in Life Drain when it unlocks.

Grenades (when you get to them) keep them low level- just unlock the skills. They do a lot of damage and making them too powerful will make leveling them even more tedious if that's possible. But fill up Determination ASAP- it regenerates your Health faster. Skip Demolitions until you're mostly leveled (or it will take a really long time). I'm not sure about Toughness or Ignore Pain (not available yet).

The Vodoo Staff is similar- one or two points in the hexes and load up the Passives sooner rather than later- Concentration rebuilds your vodoo levels, conservation cuts down on the vodoo used (including the doll). It almost gets to the point that you're regenerating the vodoo used before the hex cycles through again.

My $0.02... your mileage may vary.

Thanks a ton for that mongo.

Eustace, I'm just trying to make an overall good character. PvP isn't very important for me... But, I would like to know, do you think it's worth putting one point in grape shot?
