Norton Thinks p3dpythonw.exe Is Security Risk

Norton thinks that Panda3D is some kind of high security risk. Is Norton 360 just too strict or is it really a risk? If it's not a risk, can someone tell me how to get past it always removing Panda3D? I'm really mad because I want to get on for the updates.

I don't use Norton a lot, so I don't know how. And I have Norton 360, so can you tell me how to turn it off?

It is likely that all av sftware has the same opinion of panda3D atm - certainly kaspersky is griping about it too - but until the new programme update appears on some safe list with the av sftware providers all you can do is add the pirates online launcher, PIRATES_ONLINE.EXE, P3DPYTHONW.EXE on your firewall safe list and clear all programme permissions; or what will happen is any information flowing to and from your computer to do with pirates will have to be checked by your av sftware and its activity recorded and reported on as you try to play. The result of all this checking for you is that the game will run badly freeze often and appear laggy, updates will be incomplete and you will complain to Disney and they will tell you that its all your graphics cards fault... you get where this is going.
IF you have test you need to safe box/list the pirates online test launcher, PIRATES_ONLINE.EXE and one labelled 'unknown application'. To find them in your av sftware, look for the programmes that have been flagged up with warnings in the last few days, right click on them make sure that you check the information and ONLY safe box/list the programmes that you can identify with Disney.

Hope this info helps, I know we shouldnt have to go poking around in our internet security sftware (where most of us dont have the first clue what we are doing) just because dis updated but the sad reality is that we do.

PB

PS I safebox/listed all the above and the game still appears to be down - only so much we can do, eh!

first of all potco is run by disney a fortune 500 company potco even as a basic member should be safe barring extremely unlikely circumstances. p3dpythonw.exe is panda 3d which is the game engine for potco and is free for all purposes (disney went all out with that one eh) this would normally be suspicious (with free/open source software there is normally a charge for commercial purposes) but in this case its not due to the fact that this has been safely used by everyone here (most likely). disney doesn't have a record of extortion so it shouldn't matter as far as the safety of your computer goes (if it did potco and the other disney online worlds would not exist due to lack of members and thus lack of profitability). If you block panda 3d with your firewall you won't be able to play potco there will be no virus (assuming you got panda 3d from disney). If by knocks out you mean causes your antivirus to crash i have no idea what happened (are you sure your antivirus is paid up). if your anti virus is causing panda 3d to crash or telling you to get rid of it is because as it is open source it has no confirmable publisher. you shouldn't pay for potco just because your afraid of getting a virus from it. If your going to pay for unlimited access it should be because you like the game and feel that the additional features justify the cost.

Many Anti-Virus programs are going to falsely identify files. Most of the programs will allow you to add the file to a trusted list. This will tell the Anti-Virus program not to identify the file as a threat. If the file is a POTC program file, it is seriously doubtful that it is infected unless something else got into your PC and replaced/infected the original file. I have never heard of a true infection in regards to any POTC files.

Don't turn of Norton!!!
It costs loads of money, and it knows what it is doing. Norton just doesnt lke the browser, so I'd try the launcher. You can find the Live Launcher on the release notes for the normal site, and the test launcher on the test site.

AVG free or Avira are 2 other effective options that are free.
