Some new guild ranks

Ahoy all! Well, I just had some ideas for ranks that should be added into our guilds. Except for the last one, most are already used by guilds. Enjoy!

Co-Guildmaster is the first. Some may prefer the term First Mate, but I will just call it Co-Gm, as that is the term I use. Anyway, I thought that the rank of Co-Gm could be like this:
  1. Able to promote 5 members to Veteran per day.
  2. Able to promote 3 members to Officer per day.
  3. Able to eject 20 members, 10 Veterans, and 5 Officers per day.
  4. Can add members.
  5. If guildmaster leaves guild without appointing a new guildmaster, the Co-Guildmaster that has held that rank for the longest will get leadership of the guild.
  6. Guildmaster may appoint up to six Co-Guildmasters.

Senior Officer. This is the rank between Officer and Co-GM. It would be sort of like Co-Guildmaster except with less power. The idea would be that Senior Officers would be JUST for Officers that have either been in the guild for a long time or have shown their trust and value to the guild. More info:
  1. Able to promote 3 members to Veteran per day.
  2. Can eject 10 members and 5 veterans per day.
  3. Able to add members.
  4. Guildmaster can appoint as many Senior Officers as he/she wishes, but the amount of Senior Officers must be less than the amount of Officers.

Now, let me state. If we have a guildmaster that isn't very bright and decides to promote everyone they can to Co-GM and Senior Officer, these people CAN wreck a guild. So a Guildmaster must be smart and appoint only those he/she trusts to these positions. So yes, they can get their guild wreck if they appoint anyone to these positions, so they will have to be smart with it.

Now for my last rank. Hall of Fame. I got the idea from the Hall of Fame rank we have here on POF, for moderators that need to take a leave. My idea for it would be this:
  1. Rank is meant to be given to Officers, Senior Officers, or Co-Guildmasters that are unable to come online for a long period of time, or any other event that would keep them from being able to perform their duties.
  2. No matter what rank they previously were, they are unable to promote or eject members.
  3. Can add members.
  4. Guildmaster appoints a member as Hall of Fame, but the player may deactivate their Hall of Fame rank if they decide to. Message is sent to guildmaster, letting them know that they have done so. They may approve or deny this. If denied, the player stays Hall of Fame until the guildmaster changes their rank. If approved, the player takes their previous rank back.
  5. Rank is meant to signify that this person contributed to the guild greatly, not just to hand out. (people will probably hand it out freely anyway...)

Well mates, what do you think? Have I missed anything you think should be added, or put anything in that shouldn't be there? Please post comments!

I think they are pretty good. But for the Senior Officers, I don't think they should have any extra power than a regular Officer has... The title of Senior Officer is high enough already. Also, I don't quite understand what you are saying for the 4th comment in the HOF category. Lastly, for the Co-GM, I know it is for trustworthy people only, but someone could pretend to be nice and all, then promote people without the GM's permission just to make those people happy.... But other than those, it is good

i think its a good idea but at that rate why not just make a gm able to customize ranks by name by ability to promote by ability to demote and by ability to kick members.

Thats actually not a bad idea... but it would be bad in some ways for some people. Freedom is a good thing, but pure freedom and pure customization of ranks may lead to chaos and disorder.

Sharktooth, what I mean is that a Hall of Fame member is placed in that category by the guildmaster, but they can leave that category if they wish to go back to their normal position with approval of the guildmaster.

Great idea! and speaking from a pint of view from someone who has been with out the GM for 6 months, the idea of GM rank transferring to a co-gm is epic.

Great ideas Davy. :] I think the Hall of Fame rank would be a great addition. It would hold the worthy guild contributors in high regard without essentially taking away all their power; it's similar to emeriti. Sadly, though, you're right. For most guilds, they'll just promote someone to the HOF based on: "Oh, this person's nice." "This one hasn't been a long-time member, but she's friendly and active." "THIS GUY'S FUNNY, lulz."

I like how the Co-GM rank doesn't have unlimited power... 'cause... you know... oh wait... you never know. But, I don't think the number of Co-GM's should be limited. Some guilds were created with a high number of founders, and some other guilds have probably met a lot of capable people along the way who they think could do the job and do it well. If the number was limited, let's say a guild has 6 Co-GM's already. The guild has a great structure and the rank of Co-GM is extremely hard to attain. A 7th potential Co-GM candidate comes along, and it turns out, they can't be promoted because of the limit that's placed. I agree that the Sr. Officer number should be lower than the Officer number, but having a limit on the Co-GM rank would just prevent any new candidates from advancing further in the guild.

I do see your logic there, but the reason I placed that limit there is so that there is a limit to how many Co-GM's there are. After all, we don't want people that make every person above level 10 a Co-GM. That would defeat the purpose. Maybe make it proportional to guild size, or just have less Co-GM's than Officers. I dunno, but there should be a limit somewhere.

Well, that's just like promoting everyone in the guild to an Officer. It's giving a bunch of people unnecessary power. The Officer rank's purpose is already defeated in many guilds; it would be the same for the Co-GM rank. In the end, it's the GM's fault for promoting people like that in the first place.

But I agree that there should be less Co-GM's than Officers. For one, the Co-GM rank should be extremely hard to attain; if we have 50 Co-GM's and 5 Officers, what does that say about the GM? Also, the Officers really wouldn't have a chance to actually have sufficient experience leading the guild if there's always a Co-GM or 20 online to take care of it. The Officers have to be the leaders (to an extent) sometime.
