Staffs: Worth the trouble?

A couple of months ago, I did my staff quest. Sure it was exciting an' everything, but it is worth all the trouble to get? I mean i think that the staffs take to long to charge...

Let me know what you think.....

Happy plunderin'!

They take long to charge because you haven't leveled it up enough yet. If you put points on Spirit Lore it increases casting rate by 8%. Then if you put points on Concentration it increases voodoo recovery rate by 30%.

My advice is to level up at Kingshead. Once you get the "Wither" skill use it in the middle of the marching navy soldiers. Repeat until about level 13-15.

Its effective when you have swords men around you. the would make it so you have time to charge, while you fire your attacks. I've found this is very effective, but even better during an invasion.

I don't have a problem with the slow recharging, but I've gotten tired of the staff. I've sold my staff since I never use it.

Prior to the new weapons the staff was the only weapon that attacked multiple enemies at once without the possibility of damage to ye self(read grenades). Or did great damage at a distance. But now after the release of the new weapons the staff is no longer the exclusive option. I have only one pirate that uses it as a primary weapon. For him it is part of his persona. He is a Gypsy mystic type. My older pirates use it on occasion for invasions.

Otherwise its Broadswords for shipboard combat, and muskets for long range death dealing.

Maybe if new rare and famed and maybe legendary staff get released I may change my mind.

So I may sell my staffs for the same reason Thunder did.

But staffs are the only weapon that has long range, awesome damage, and can help the people around you.

I personally prefer a sword. I don't need to worry about casting or voodoo going down. Swords are my favorite; however, staffs are extremely handy for wiping out large amounts of enemies, and invasions. Each weapon has its own usage. Staff has its.

Staff is fairly weak but has a big damage range, which makes it ideal for leveling up notoriety fast (slow kill, and hits tons of enemies) and also, the spells you cast looks cool!

It's the most powerful long range weapon in the game. Just work your voodoo up with the doll before getting the staff. Don't waist your skill points on the early skills, wait for wither. I have max wither and max flaming skulls, andmax passive skills with the exception of concentration. I'm not using the last skills at all. They take too long to charge and are more gimmick / flash than they are worth. The time they take to charge imo are not worth it.

I would agree. To tell you the truth, the only skills I ever use on my staff are Wither and Flaming Skull (get it? Cuz I'm a Fireskull? ah haha.... bad joke...). They don't take too long to cast and they do good damage. Occasionally I'll use a Banish or Desolation, but their cast times aren't worth the damage they do, so rarely is it I use them.

Cant really argue with you there... So it seems that wither+ flaming skull seem to be the best of the choices...
