Lag
Today I was sailing and I noticed something weird, lag.
Normally at sea I don't have any lag, but not today. One second the ship was there then it moved slightly. It made shooting my cannon a though job. This happening to anyone else? |

Lag normally tends to be on the players end. It could be your settings, or having too much on your computer. Or it could be server lag.
Haven't had this happen to me. |

Same thing has been happening to me. At sea, if I'm sailing, it's all good. If I grab a cannon everything just skips. It runs like classic movie that skips and hops. It also makes it very hard to aim a cannon at a moving ship. I tried changing settings, but nope. Tried changing IDs, but nope.
Further, it's not just sailing. I tried to heal yesterday. Uh, bad idea. Heal didn't take effect till my pirates finished circling the doll. At times the heal wouldn't even work at all. And yes, that's on two different pirates on two different IDs. Yes, bug reports sent. |

Ditto for me today. Also, when I was sailing, I couldn't see anything unless I was literally right next to it. Made it quite difficult to aim my broadsides, I'll tell you that. I couldn't even see an island either, on boat or on cannon or while on the wheel. I'm sending in my bug reports now, but has anyone had this problem as well?

I have lag every second of every day with the game since the beginning.... sailing and land equally pretty much. The lag is so bad it freezes me for 2 minutes trying to kill a low level enemy that kills me instead that I could so easily kill...... I've gotten used to it though I guess...

It happens to me sometimes, I usually just reboot the computer to fix it or clean out the junk files.

I routinely watch my computer's performance monitor.
A cursory look at my performance monitor shows that in the last couple of weeks, there has been a MAJOR performance bug added to the game. Game freezes of 2 to 20 seconds are VERY common now, that my performance monitor shows to be a very new defect in the game. Disney is losing the battle of the bugs. Memory leaks still increasing, major memory flaw from 2 years ago still unaddressed. Player-card lag increasing regularly. Quest lag increasing regularly. Graphics absurdly degrading regularly, with no effect on lag. Logins taking minutes. Teleports taking minutes. Not sure I can play POTCO much longer. |

I agree with you Edward.. something has definitely changed in the last week. Here is another thread discussing it..
http://www.piratesonlineforums.com/f...ad.php?t=15297 I have tried updating but the game is still jerking me around. It is especially irritating when using cannons. Last edited by Kat Five Knives; 04-12-2010 at 10:27 AM.. Reason: spelling ( rolls eyes ) |

The lag got so horrible I had to turn the graphics to Low from my usual High, and it did improve the loading, teleporting etc and not get stuck on the loading screen so much.
Not sure if it helps, but i notice the game process in task manager shows that its always running on one processor instead of 2, so i always had to set it to run on both processor so that the first doesnt over work. |

I always change affinity to run on all cores first thing after login, and it always makes a difference for me. Yesterday I changed my graphic options from DX9 to Open GL, and tried a couple of fairly busy invasions, and so far it seems to be doing better.

The recent change, is that all CPU cores will now spin at 100% (previously, never more than 1 processor would ever max) but ONLY while the game locks up. Today, for example, on open (live) servers, I'd get 2 seconds of "normal" game-play then a 5 to 10 second game freeze, then 1 or 2 second of normal game-play then a 5 to 10 second game freeze... Disney is intentionally destroying the game. A malicious change of this magnitude could not possibly be accidental. What was (two years ago) an elegant glitch-filled niche genre game, has become a lag-fest that very few computers on the planet are capable of running, with (comparatively) ugly graphics and all the original glitches intact (with new modified methods of performing each of them.) With the new weapons system, all "questing" is now obsolete, converting the adventure-type game into a mere arcade-type game. (E.g. "Leadership" skill for completing the Black Pearl quest is now granted infinitely and effortlessly from a sea-scroll "dropped" by level 1 gravediggers.) Why has Disney chosen to destroy this game? Are they canceling the next movie? |
