Anyone remember how different the game was when it 1st came out?
Good times.
POTCO The Wild West: Open Servers year one! Anyone remember when the game first came out of beta, and Abassa players got away with saying anything they wanted? My that as so long ago. I remember the islands were still new and the feeling I got from playing the game was good new to me. Those were good times. All my friends from school played the game then. The game was totally different Socially back then. My have things changed. Good times good times. Sincerely, Rp Last edited by Sarah; 03-04-2010 at 05:16 PM.. Reason: slight re-word |

Aaah, yes, the good ole' days.
Everything was so much... different in the first year. Different islands, different gameplay, different people, and a generally different game. When I started playing back in March of 08', there was so much too do not game-wise, but social-wise. There were ALOT more glitches, for one thing, and all the people, generally carried themselves differently. Back then, as far as I remember, people were a lot more friendly, and a lot more independent. I feel that as the game developed, and in turn got easier, pirates became more and more dependent on higher levels, as well as radiated a more demanding, irritable and angry attitude. The thing I remember the most, though, was back then, pirates had A LOT less help with things than they do now. I was brought to the game by a friend of mine, so after he left it (which was roughly short after I joined <_>) I was pretty much on my own. I had to sink my own ships, kill my own enemies, do everything by myself (even the dreaded grenade quest.) It helped me learn and develop how to do things by myself, which is why, and don't get me wrong, I love to, whenever somebody asks for help, I always say in my head "Back when I was your level, I did that by myself..." Don't get me wrong, I love to help out, its just that it gets me a little frustrated that as the game progress, the skill and tactics of an individual player wears down as well. Also, back to the players attitudes and actions themselves. I remember back when I was a baby pirate, I remember how different, for example, Abassa was. Everything was so lively, but not like the livliness you see now. Instead of pirates throwing grenades and spaming in caps lock, pirates back then were organizing PvP's, Raids, Ship Plunders and Boss Battles, doing massive PvP glitch battles (which actually made you look like a skeleton back then,) and having actual conversations that everybody could get involved in. Now, it seems like the game is divided in to small cliques. Nobody seems like they wanna mingle out of their comfort zone, ya know? But my FAVORITE thing from the past, aside from the social aspects, of course, was the SvS PvP glitch. I remember my friends, guild and I would spend HOURS fighting pirates in MASSIVE fights on the SvS islands. It was like a battlefield out there! Sorry for such a long post, but I'm an old pirate. I love to talk about the good ole' days.... *rocks back and forth in his chair* |

I never had a pirate until spring 2009, but before then I had a friend in real life who played the game. Back then it felt way different. The islands felt different. It felt like it wasn't a very big community on there, as compared to now...

I became a Pirate in July of 2008, and I've liked my experience so far. My pirate lore is pretty long, so here are the main points.
I highly enjoyed the privateer glitch that would let you do Spanish vs French on land, man I would spend hours on andaba and abassa taking down the enemy. I have noticed now that players are ruder, meaner, and greedier... but it is rare now to find nice people. When I first started this game everyone was so nice... everyone low and high level players were striving to help me level. A year later I hit lvl 40, and instead of them helping me, some people just stand there complaining and I have to ask them to help me. I do wish that the old music for the islands will be available again, because I really felt like a pirate, I was so excited jumping on flagships and leveling weapons, now it just feels like part of that life is gone. (My apologies for the long post, but this is only a fraction of my tale.) I have lost a good amount of friends, but I have gained more true friends than before. I persuaded three of my real life friends to join... two left the game, now only one plays. As I have looked back, I see that there is much I liked about the old game |

I joined back in late 08 I believe. I didn't play much but from what was happening, it all seemed happier. Like when I first saw a Voodoo Staff. I asked that pirate what it was and they politely told me. In my past guild there was this one girl, I didn't say ANYTHING to her, just was talking to my friends in the guild, she just started being extremely mean to me. Those are two examples from past and present. Who knows what the future will be like though.

LOL I forgot about that your hours up -glub glub- I would be working on cannons and be like oh boy and the race was on back to shore. Yeah standing around on Tortuga was about Boss Battle dont know how much time I spent there yelling looking for a crew for pearl for friends and people I had run by who asked for help. I always enjoyed the Fort on Port all the low levels running in circles and trying to do doll quest ( they had to replace the island because I wore through the old one going up and down that hill) I hope we will be looking back next year going remember when that second storyline came out Nice thread thanks

Loved the game then as I love the game now.
Although now people are ruder and meaner and always complaining 'i'm bored' even when they're nowhere near maxed o_O (I can't understand that). I miss the ships timer terribly and it was a shame it was removed. It was fun trying to get back to port with only a few seconds to spare, or sinking suddenly because you were having so much fun you forgot the timer! lol I think the game has changed for the better and will continue to bring us lots of new goodies to sample real soon.

I joined back around April or May 2008 as a basic after seeing the trailer in my At World's End DVD.I really wouldn't know if the people were kinder then because I mostly just went around having great fun exploring and avoiding Navy Soldiers in the old Port Royal town and sailing this nice little ship that may not have been a complete speed boat,I even remember that timer, though I never sunk, perhaps the old sailing was better.I remember my main patime was going by sloop to check out all the islands I saw on the horizon,Padres in paticular was a mysterious volcano....When I was level 8 with Lawrence my first charcter four months or so later, where I stopped playing, but I returned.
One thing that can change the whole feel of the game is the island redesign, and the changing of the islands' music,I'm very familiar with music,it helped change the feel as well as the new look did. Last edited by Dockwrecker The Privateer; 03-05-2010 at 05:30 PM.. |

I have been playing the game since Feb 08 and yes, it was a different Caribbean back then. One reason was that it was still young and not as many pirates were playing. I guess I got lucky when I first started playing because I met some fun-loving pirates that were more than willing to help me advance my pirate. They also took the time to teach me how to do things what appeared to be the right way. And most of that was because I still use those techniques on my little pirates today. And they did not do the work for me, I had to do it myself. They just made sure I didn't go to jail evber 2 minutes. I enjoyed the game then, and I am still enjoying the game now. And if you stay away from the lower A oceans, there are still plenty of pirates roaming the oceans that are friendly and helpful.
Looking forward to what big D has for us in the future. |

Keep the posts coming I didn't know people felt the same way I did. And who cares if the post is long I love talking about old Vintage things. Like my dads record player or in this case the first year of POTCO.

(Sighs) I remember. I began playing when open servers were new. The islands were big, open, and gave off a small-town feel. Port Royal... I loved it there. Bright green hills on either side... A small town with cobblestone sidewalks... A little fort you could walk right into.... The Ocean was bigger then too. You had to sail as much as five minutes ,with the wind at your back and no enemies catching you, just to reach Cuba... Cuba at least hasn't changed. I did everything on my own. I've never been a member, and yet I've made it all the way to level 19.
I agree. Older players were friendly, and newer players were not so... how shall I say it?... You're right. Servers weren't filled with spammers and AFK players. No. You could get a crew together for a good time within a few minutes. But I disagree about baby pirates. They're not all dependent. The fact is that they're now split in two. There are those who are dependent, but the fact is, that most have taken independence to the extreme; not even willing to join a crew, and not so much as talking to those who just want to chat. By the way, do any of you remember being able play tag or hide-and-seek in Tortuga? Those were the days...(Coughs) Now where did I put my medication?... Nurse!!! I remember those days too, and I think you are right about the types of people who played then. I made a lot of very good friends. I think the things I miss most from the old days are the stumps that used to live in Cutthroat Jungle.
I still love the game and I am anxious to see what awaits us in the future. Meg |

Yes I remember way back then. I started to play POTCO End of Febuary Beginging of March of 2008 ( I forget the Exact date it was when they were giving away the Black Skull ) Anyway I Remember the ship Timmer, Old Health Bar, No Ship PvP, Old Islands and old caves, could not choose ship permisions, Old Weapons, enimes only lvl 40 bellow, and could only get to lvl 40 and lvl 25 weapons, and lots more. The game has changed alot in 2 years. Yes there it is still the same Story quest, but as long as there are enough stuff to not be completly board is good for me. But now a days PvPs are full of Jumpers and Glitchers, SvS Is full of Chaters and Cheep Light Sloops, People are not as nice ( But there are still some out there ) there are alot of cheats to lvl. Over all I think the Pirates Online Crew has done a fine job tho.
