Unable to load pirate

Just wondering if anyone else had seen this issue.

When I first started playing POTC about 4 weeks ago or so, the game ran pretty smoothly. Occasionally I'd have a bug when changing servers or the odd flagship boarding problem. As time went on, the problems became more and more frequent. D said all the usual about packet dropping and so on - I had the phone company out (DSL) and they replaced the network interface on the house. No improvement. In the last week, the problem has progressed to a point where I can't log into my pirate at all, with the very rare exception and then only until I try to change areas or oceans. When I log in, I get the island title screen with the spinning red wheel which just spins forever.

So, the twist now is that we created a new pirate in the second slot for my daughter, and this low level pirate has no trouble logging on at all. I jumped oceans over and over to verify, and logged out and back in to both pirates a couple dozen times to verify that it wasn't just a coincidence. Perfect logins on new pirate, stalemate on the older pirate.

I have a new pending trouble ticket into D that was posted before this discovery, and I'll add this new information to it when they give me the expected unhelpful response on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of problem. I'm assuming at this point that some kind of corruption has crept into my first pirate and the game can't figure out what to do with it.

I have had almost the same exact problem. I've been playing POTC for a year now with the same mild issues you've mentioned. Then as of early December, I haven't been able to play AT ALL. I've played email tag with the POTC IT people for weeks and they've yet given me an adequate solution. Mostly they've told me it was issues with my router or my firewall settings, so I reconfigured the ports to my router to accept POTC, and there was no change. The most recent advice was to bypass my router when I play and connect straight to my computer. Now my internet cable is the screw-in type (no USB). So now I'm wondering if I need to go out and search for a USB adapter (which I've never seen and don't even know if there even is such a thing). I play on a MAC and I'm at the point of chalking it up to the fact that they don't know how to handle MAC. It is all very frustrating, especially since I was playing just fine under a year ago. I haven't tried using a new pirate, but I can't even log on to create one. I hope you find a solution, and if you do, please let me know what worked, as I will for you.
