Ok got a question... Windows 7?
My disk is on its way. I would really like to upgrade! However the big D told me Pirates online doesn't support Win 7 as of yet. Will it run? Has anyone tried it? I know it just got released today, but there has to be some beta users here somewhere.
If it won't run, I will wait to upgrade my computers. I don't want to go through all the fun stuff of upgrading to find out I have to put Vista back on just to play games. Also, anyone know if Pirates will run on Ubuntu? I have a sweet pc sitting here all by its self, lonely, not getting used, with Ubuntu on it. Been trying to sell it but I think people in my area scared of anything that isn't windows lol. So i'd like to put it to use. Thanks

Pirates does run on Windows 7 just fine, will probably run better than Vista actually. I've ran it on the RC1 and RTM versions for a while now and no real problems (got an occasional lockup and had to end the process but nothing too major) . I did have a slight crash and sent in a report. Amazingly Disney actually sent me a reply the same day pointing me to some Windows 7 specific video drivers that I hadn't checked on yet (they were released a couple days before I crashed).
As far as I know, I don't believe a lot of success has been had getting the game to run on Ubuntu, either through WineX or Cedega. I've seen some screenshots of people getting to the launcher but nothing "in-game" yet.

Sweet Thanks Sven. I will probably start by just upgrading my laptop first, seeing as how there is next to nothing on it right now, at least nothing important. I haven't even tried with ubuntu, wanted to see if anyone else had. Maybe I will goof around with it a little. Thanks again. |

I'll test POTC on Windows 7 as soon as I can.
The other Panda3D online game Disney runs, Toontown, is officially supported on Windows 7 32-bit versions. |

I have Windows 7 64 bit and it takes an act of Congress to get it to load and then still may not run , and still no help from Disney. any ideas?

I have windows 7 as well and notticed that the loads are a whole lot longer than windows XP. Disney has a whole lot off bugs now and they need to be fixed A.S.A.P. What happened to test and fixing problems?

I know the answer well.
It ran very well on Windows 7 PRIOR to the last big upgrade a week and a half or two ago. Now, after that major update it runs horribly!!! Worse than with my old computer. I mean, once you get to the game it isnt bad but logging in it's a 10 minute affair, anything that requires a loading screen (launching a ship, porting from sea, entering or exiting shops, caves, teleporting, etc takes A LONG TIME now... it really tests your patience. If you get disconnected, well, I now just quit playing, not worth the trouble. I have reported this numerous times, I got lame answers and tried their graphics setting changes, we have three options, none help. There you have it. Someone was done on the last major update to really ruin the game for windows 7 users, lucky me!!! Thanx for nothing, potoc! and I'm a paying subscriber. Ah!!!! Looky looky!!! It's right here! Release Notes - December 16, 2009 New Improvement: * Privateering ships now display the correct sail colors. * Fixed a bug preventing Pirates from using cannons and the steering wheel after being sunk in Privateering * Fixed the cannon damage sound effects on ships Known Issues - December 16, 2009 * Window 7 users may experience long delays logging in and at loading screens. We're working to resolve these soon. Release Notes - December 11, 2009 New Improvement: * Fixed two ship-related AI crashes. Last edited by Lady Freckles; 12-19-2009 at 11:58 PM.. Oh, phew. I spent hours trying to figure out why I was having loading/crashing issues on W7. Turned my PC upside down trying to fix it, guess I'll just sit tight :P

Perhaps it's just me (oh boy, more experimenting) but I get the issues even with the compatibility set to Vista.

Hi all. I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on a 64 Bit system. The program loads and logs in fine, but occasionally during game play the game will just freeze up. The music an sound effects still work, but I cannot click anything. I then try to end the process but it will not quit. I then end up going in and open the program again. The first time I log in it gives me an error that the network connection has unexpectedly terminated, but when I log in again, it lets me in. So then I have basically two pirates online processes running at the same time. I tried changing the compatibility to Windows XP SP 3 but the same issues occur.
I've gone to my computer manufacturer's website but it appears I have the most up to date drivers. Anyone else running into this issue? PS: As for Ubuntu... I've got that running on my netbook. Same issue as everyone else. The log in screen appears but when I try to log in it says it cannot verify my login id. Thanks! Jade Darkeagle |

...if any of ye were running XP pro 64-bit,,and put SP 3 on(it will do it if ye have autoupdate on,,but its not supported in 64 bit) ,,,ye'll have probs...support will continue on SP 2 for those systems til 2014. Make sure you turn your autoupdater to "notification before download thing". I have no probs anymore... I would like to upgrade to Win 7..but I keep hearing things...
