A Call to Arms! Port Royal Defense Force - RDF Roster
A Call to Arms!
Me brethren pirates far and wide! Battles are fought and won through communication, cooperation and tactics. To limit chaos and confusion during the battle (and also help reduce lag), a defensive strategy is in order to maximize the gain of potential notoriety and minimize the damage to the town (i.e. Barriers/Barricades and the Mansion). **Please Note: This is merely a suggestion of a strategy to help pirates help each other in the midst of chaos and battle** **TIP for Lag: Prior to the invasion scenario, you may try setting your graphics to the lowest possible setting if you have concerns with Lag. It should help reduce lag just a little since your computer won’t have to process the high quality textures and effects during a mass player event** We all have our roles to play to protect our homeland, and rather than mindless hack and slash many pirates would prefer a more tactical approach. Utilize each pirate regardless of level to their full potential during the battles to come. This can be achieved by accomplishing the following prior to the invasion: **Please Note: The following is a culmination of a search done on Wiki for Defensive Battle Tactics. My apologies for the “modern references”, but try to relate it in pirate context! ** Principle: Identification of objectives: Also referred to as 'Selection and Maintenance of the Aim'; Tactics should be directed to achieve a particular outcome such as the capture of a hill, a successful disengagement from an advancing enemy, or merely causing a greater proportional loss to the enemy than to your own force (attrition). Once an aim is identified, time, resources and effort are expended to achieve it; therefore, these are wasted if the aim is frequently changed. For the purposes of protecting Port Royal, the Objective is Defense of the Town. Thus, the Aim should focus on Defensive Deployment. Force Concentration: A blade is edged so that it lands with more energy per square centimeter than an equally sized blunt object. Concentration of effort is a fighting force's edge. Once an aim is identified, earmark enough resources to achieve it and focus them on the task. Force protection: Another component is the principle of security. A formation must have specialized weapons against specific attacks - such as pistol wielding firing lines, grenadier artillery or voodoo specialists staff spell defenses and must always be carefully sited and available, even if halted for only a short period, defensive measures should be taken, i.e. insure that grenadier / firing line / voodoo specialist formations maintain their ability to provide long range defensive support. Defensive Tactics: Defense in Depth: Defense in depth is a military strategy sometimes referred to as elastic defense or deep defense. Defense in depth seeks to delay rather than prevent the advance of an attacker, buying time and causing additional casualties by yielding space. Rather than defeating an attacker with a single, strong defensive line, defense in depth relies on the tendency of an attack to lose momentum over a period of time or as it covers a larger area. A defender can thus yield lightly defended territory in an effort to stress an attacker's logistics or spread out a numerically superior attacking force. Once an attacker has lost momentum or is forced to spread out to pacify a large area, defensive counter-attacks can be mounted on the attacker's weak points with the goal being to cause attrition warfare or drive the attacker back to its original starting position. All-round Defense: All-round defense is a defensive posture, usually adopted in times of confusion by all military units from squad up. In a prepared position, all-round defense is adopted so that the unit is capable of observing all ground and directing fire onto the observed ground. It is typically used in all static military operations, or in any situation where a small unit would need to regroup. Hedgehog Defense: The hedgehog defense is a military tactic for defending against a heavy hitting mobile attack. The defenders deploy in depth (defense in depth) in heavily fortified positions suitable for all-around defense. The attackers can penetrate between these "hedgehogs", but each position continues to fight on when surrounded. This keeps large numbers of attacking troops tied up, attacking the well-defended strong points, while allowing the defenders to successfully counterattack against the units that bypass these strong points with their own long range reserves (grenadiers, firing lines and voodoo specialists) by cutting them off from their supporting elements. A combination of these three defensive tactics would be suitable for the Port Royal Defense Scenario. **Please note: These are merely tactics. How they may be employed in the field is up to you and how your Crew Leaders, Officers, GMs or whoever is calling the shots for your crew see fit to employ such measures. Everything looks good on paper. ** RDF or Rapid Deployment Force: A rapid deployment force is a military formation capable of quick deployment of its forces. Such forces typically consist of elite military units and may receive priority in equipment and training to prepare them for their mission. For the sake of community cooperation, a volunteer force comprised of pirates from multiple guilds in either a mixed participation formation or guild core formation is necessary to meet the Aim of this scenario. Setup: Determining your “Strengths” in your Crew[s] or Guild[s]: Know what each mate is good at and capable of handling to assess your strengths and assign the task accordingly. Specialist Breakdown: Cutters & Gutters: (Cutlass & Dagger Support) **Note: Good for the front line skirmish, meet and greet the enemy with a flash of blades. ** Healers & Revivers: (Doll & Revival Support) **Note: A Reviver can be any level pirate that acts as a “Core Man” and tends to his/her fallen comrades. A Healer keeps his mates healed so they may continue the fight. If a dedicated Healer has to stop to revive someone, he/she is obviously not healing, and will shortly be reviving more of his/her mates. ** Firing Line: (Pistol Support) Grenadiers: (Artillery Support) Voodoo Specialists: (Staff Support) Battle Plan: Establish a Main HQ Rally Point for the RDF: The Mansion or just outside Truehound’s Tailor Shoppe (due to it’s Central Location in Town) would be the most suitable location[s]. Ammo! Know the closets Ammo shop nearest to the Barrier your crew will be defending. Form up your crews based on which barriers they will be defending. Select a Crew Captain for each crew that can relay information to other crew captains guarding barriers around the town. This will help with communication and cut down on confusion on the battle field if the Crew Captains can stay up to speed. Take Up Positions based on your specialty at the designated area your crew will be defending. (See Attached Port Royal Defenses Map for a detailed location of crew positions) Know the names and locations of each barrier, should one bastion (barrier crewed by a defensive force) require reinforcements. *-The Wharf Barricade (near the Docks). *-The Beach Barricade (near the Shipwright, Darby Drydock). *-The Bridge Barricade (in the middle of town near the marketplace and Rowdy Rooster) *-The King’s Way Barricade (near the Graveyard) *-The Farmer’s Row Barricade (near the Governor’s Mansion) Lastly, work together! Let’s show Roger and his mates they be up against the most dastardly scoundrels ever to sail the seven seas! Good luck to ye all! Hoist the Colours!!! ![]() Stay Savvy! Roxy Redcrow GM Clan Storm
