SvS Porting

If you do SvS you are aware that people port and log to keep from being sunk. This is not a new thing and something I have come to accept as a gonna happen part of the game. I do however think its "wrong" (politically correct) to do so and really "wrong" if you are doing so just to stop others from getting bounty. I was suprised to log on and find a guild with a name that says that is its main idea. That being said I am 1 pirate in a game of 1000's and will go along with my thoughts are not yours. So what do you think?

P.S I have only given 2 options as I don't see other if you think I should add another let me know.

I enjoy sail vs sail when I have the time and I agree that porting to avoid being sunk is wrong. They have no compunction about chasing a wounded ship half way across the caribbean but when the tide turns they vanish.

I would like to see the same kind of port limit put on the ships as we have in land combat. Once you fire a broadside you cannot port for xx seconds. For SVS to be effective you shouldn't be able to leave your ship until you dock again at the Spanish/French island. Your crew can go back and forth but the Captain is stuck (yes i know they can't get ammo then, they would have to port).

I also notice now that when my ship is hit that I am reduced to half speed for a short time. I don't know if the speed reduction was put on SVS as well.

My two cents.

That speed reduction is on SvS.

I the new svs things almost seems to make it easier for lower levels players I think.Frankly I don't want ships getting too fast though. The speed in previous months was good if not too much for sailing.

Tis wrong mate to port or log a bounty in SVS.

We have many who love the SVS game but play for the fun of it, nothing more. My thought is if there is a particular player recognized for porting on a regular basis, do not include "this player" in the game. Agree as a group not to sink the "porter", and stop the "smack" talk on the beach of the French Island. Difficult to enforce "leading" by example behavior among the entire group especially when another chooses to sour the game for all but I think in time, the "porter(s)" will get the message and tire of a game where there is no fight on the water or land.

hey william, good idea for a thread mate.
okay i understand having a high bounty and hiding away so that others loo for you. but why give up when the battle has lost but a war left to continue. i say don't port, but there are some complications to what i said. the war usually doesnt continue, for the person who has the bounty usually runs away with it or logs out when his bounty is almost lost.
i mean what have they to lose other than a 'bounty'?. its just a game and one should accept defeat.
it would still be cool if a ship can hold on to it's bounty when he ports or logs off.
once my friend Cutthroght Mc Rage got a bounty of 14000 gold using his ship the cutthroght navigator ( i dont know how ), he then came to me and let me kill him and we did it to each other again and again.
i easilly got a war frigate using this. its better than playing for hours together to get the money u need to buy a war frig

It's silly and annoying but it's a personal choice. If I'm chasing someone and they log, I'll take it as a compliment.

I don't think the bounty comes out of the players money.

This is true. The sunk players don't lose anything, just the bounty on their heads. The sinkers gain the gold for the bounty but it doesn't come from the sunk players' pockets. It's theoretically paid for by Avaricia and de Porc.

If someone is running away, I don't bother chasing. If they want to be cowards, that's fine. If they log out or port, you really can't say for sure that they're just chickening out. They may actually be done for the day, either with needing to log out for a good reason or just figure to get while the getting's good.

It's just a game. I don't feel that it's necessary to get all worked up about something like this. Everyone's bound to get sunk at some point. And at some point everyone's going to log out.

I'm not worked up about it, as I stated I have come to accept it as part of the game and what you say is true. I also stated though that there is now a guild with a name that states that is its reason for being. To come out get bounty and port just so no one else can get it is a different thing all together and why I decided to post a thread just to see how others felt. I am still doing svs still playing and having fun, just curious.

I whole heartedly agree that porting or logging is wrong, admittedly we have done just that when being attacked by the group you're talking about William, because face it, thats what their intentions are, so why not keep it from them. The irony of the situation is that the way an individuals "spawn" bounty is tabulated and increased IS for them to port the bounty on the opposing team.......go figure

I've been a bit hypocritical when it came to this. Usually I'll have the "pirates" attitude by saying there's no rules when it comes to svsing against other pirates, since the main goal is to protect your own gold (bounty) at all costs. But on the other hand when I'm chasing, it can get pretty annoying or "cowardly" when the chased ports.

I voted that it's ok to port. Not that it's honorable. Not that's cowardly. But, it is ok.

I see this as strangely akin to the long over-argued debate of "rep stealing" (something I think we will all be happy not to see brought up again). As was the case then, and as I see it now - if the tactic falls within the rules of the game, then it's a viable alternative.

The dev's give us the rules and framework, and it's up to us pirates how we play. I don't think that any of us standing on the deck of a ship we had labored long and hard to purchase would be willing to see it plunge to the briny deep just to avoid being labeled cowardly.

IMHO the best influence on a tactic is the reaction of the crew. When I was playing SvS a lot (ok, a whole whole lot) there were those on both sides of the 'glitching' fence. Some were vehemently opposed, while others saw it as a tactical advantage. The best way to express dissatisfaction was simply to not play with someone who engaged in the behaviour which your found unacceptable.

So, if you don't like someone to port whilst being pursued - then don't man a cannon on their ship. Sooner or later, they may just get the point. You can't SvS competitively without a crew.
