Post Pirates Online focus group

Today I received an email from Pirates Online that I thought I would pass along. Unfortunately we won't be able to participate as my son is a little over the age range.
Quote:
Dear Pirates Online Guest,

Come tell us what you think about playing Pirates Online!

Pirates of the Caribbean Online will be conducting a series of in-person group discussions in the Los Angeles, California area for boys between the ages of 8 to 12.

The in-person group discussions will be held on October 27 and October 28 and will last approximately two hours. Participants will receive $100.

We have hired an independent research company named Adept Consumer Research to conduct these discussions. If you would like more information about these discussions or would like to participate, please contact Erika at 818-905-9666 ext. 222 or email Leah at [email protected] and provide them with your information including your Pirates Online username.

We want your opinion!

Sincerely,

The Crew at Pirates of the Caribbean Online

Not really.

They want to know what the kids think so they can make the game better.

That way, more kids will like the game, more kids will want unlimited access, more parents will pay for it, and Disney makes more money.

Makes sense when you think about it.

I agree, but I wish they would have raised the age level. I know I'm being biased when I say this, but I think my ideas are way better than the age they've said.

When you're older, your vocabulary is a bit wider in variety, and you know more about games, you can really tell the developers things that you think would improve the game.

I mean, who honestly thinks the age group they said would go into great detail with ship customization?

Will they be able to say things like, "Let us shape our ships. I want the front bigger than the back. I want the front to slope up a bit and the back to slope down. I want to change the colors of my ship to fit holidays. I want to be able to place windows in certain spots, go below decks, place cannons in different spots. I want to be able to climb up to the crows nest and use a telescope to see farther out so I can direct my crew mates to ships. I want this, I want that, etc..."

I'm sorry, but when I was that age, there was no way I'd be able to say things like that. Do the developers "know" that there are more children players than teens and adults? I've run into way more mature people in this game, and I think having them talk to the developers would be way better.

Again, I know I'm being biased. I just believe that us older players would be able to go into more detail so that the developers could have years worth of content to work on instead of doing it step by step. Well... I hope some good content comes out of asking for ideas from the younger players. I'm sure there will be some great ideas.

Maybe because what they ask for will be easier to do then D can continue to say they are giving us what players are asking for LOL.

If you tell them you are 12 when you are really 13,14, or 15 they would never know... If you want to do the survey that bad. Its not a crime when it has to do with something that meaningless...a survey.

isn't 14 and 15 cutting it a little close?lol.... a good 11 or 12 year old COULD have good ideas but normaly its only somewhat.(compairingly)but i hope some of the more serious of that range give some good ideas.but again lets not do a bunch of slaming; its fine to be asking , and perfect to be answering.im sure that many that age are playing.(but I do understand the feeling that we rest ( teens and older) might be getting left out of the questions about this game.but they have gotten via online many older advice as well.so perhaps they aren't sure which specific direction to take some of this game in or perhaps it's just seeing a different audiences view for a change (but they might be already , grog blogs has some posts that might be already). face to face does give for a more interesting conversation in many cases.
