What's next?
We've made it to a year, and we've done everything we've set out to do. 452 members, our own sub forum, recognition on the leader boards, and a great group of people who call themselves Rogues.
As we continue to grow and move on, let's think about those who have left the guild or the game. A round of applause to all the former RoF'ers, wish you were still here. Now, here's the story of three pirates, and an idea about how a guild should be run. We started a year ago, about this time, sitting on padres del fuego. We were bored, and our guild wasn't doing well. So, we sailed to tortuga, and decided to talk in one of the empty shacks. I was the gm of the old guild as well, but my leadership abilities in it were in question. I talked with my officers, and we agreed we needed a fresh start. So, we left Avaricia Armada, and created a new guild, moving the active members of the old one over. I debated over the name. We wanted something fairly catchy, but not to cheesy. So, my officers and myself debated over it. We all agreed this guild would be run differently then most, with openness, but not afraid to be tough. A rogue style of sorts we decided. That gave us part of the name. We also liked gold, and Gold Rogues or Rogues of Gold sounded cheesy. So, we came up with the Fortune part of it. About 5 hours later, I logged on and we had our name. It was never easy, keeping a balance between happy, yet respective of the rules. We made it work though, and eventually it paid off. A guild agreed to merge with us, and we got one of my Cadre Officers, Jason. Eventually, we passed 100 members, then 150, then 200. We could do nothing but grow. By this time, our old site was wearing out of use, so we made a new one, courtesy of John Walker. We've made it to the top, and we'll continue to grow, like we've always done. Sure, we've lost a few people, but everyone does. It's been said that the trails determine a leader, not the times of ease. As for the two other founding members, one is gone, possibly returning this fall. The other is still an officer in the guild. Happy 1 Year Anniversary Rogues of Fortune!!! |
