Update : Articles of The Code
PIRATA CODEX OF THE BRETHREN COURT aka "THE CODE" -----[ ]-----Article I, Section I, Paragraph I All guilds participating in the Brethren Court agree to be respectful to ALL guilds and guild mates represented by the alliance. Harassment and accusations against other guilds will not be tolerated. We are all here to work together for the benefit of all pirates looking to make a difference. Article I, Section I, Paragraph II Guild members that participate in any event are expected to Respect the Code. Not Doing so not only brings shame upon yourself, but to your Guild, Your Guild Master, and the Entire Court as well. Article I, Section I, Paragraph III GLITCHES OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLLERATED AT ANY BRETHREN COURT HELD EVENT. No cheating, lets make it fair, and keep it fair, Work hard with the sweat of your brow! Article I, Section I, Paragraph IV This concept is by voluntary participation, Respect the Code. [We are not doing this to babysit or nurture feelings of hostility towards one another!] Article I, Section I, Paragraph V This concept is not driven by Politics. Nor does it have any sort of Political Agenda. If you hope to gain stature through any means of Politics or manipulation, this is not the Court for you. This concept is driven on team work and cooperation amongst Pirates from various guilds. [KEEP THE DRAMA TO YOURSELF and PLAY NICE WITH EACH OTHER.] Article I, Section II, Paragraph I Mates not respecting the Code will be subject to reprimand by their Guild Master, including Demotion, Suspension from the Guild or a BAN from the Guild depending on the severity of Disruption(s). Article I, Section II, Paragraph II Guild Masters who do not Discipline their Guild Mates that are causing Disruptions will be subject to a VOTE BAN or SUSPENSION from the Brethren Court and will no longer be welcome at events or meetings until such action is taken to prove themselves Willing to follow and respect the Code of the Court. At which point a Vote among Guild Masters will determine if the Guild in question is Allowed back in. Article I, Section III, Paragraph I Concerning Abusive and Disruptive Players: Abusive - Definition - 1) expressing offensive reproach, 2) characterized by physical or psychological maltreatment. Disruptive - Definition - 1) characterized by unrest or disorder or insubordination. Harassment - Definition - 1) a feeling of intense annoyance caused by being tormented, 2) the act of tormenting by continued persistent attacks and criticism, be it verbal or physical. Sarcasm - Definition - 1) witty language used to convey insults or scorn. Article I, Section III, Paragraph II Concerning Abusive or Disruptive Players During a TBC Sanctioned Function, i.e. Meeting or Event: Actions taken against Abusive or Disruptive Players are to proceed in the following manner: (This is the policy Disney recommends we follow.) 1) The Player is warned to stop the abusive or disruptive behavior. 2) If the behavior continues, the Court is then asked to put said player on IGNORE. 3) If the behavior persists, the ENTIRE Court is then asked to REPORT said Player. 4) If the Player in question persists to cause Disruptions over time, send an Email to the Disney Community address with the description of said transgressions along with Screen Shot proof (if possible) of the occurrence to help solidify your claims. (They have a ton of chat logs to go through at Disney, this should help speed things up) Article I, Section III, Paragraph III Concerning Abusive or Disruptive TBC Member Players During a NON - TBC Sanctioned Function, i.e. REGULAR GAME PLAY: Actions taken against Abusive or Disruptive TBC Member Players are to proceed in the following manner: (This includes ALTERNATE CHARACTERS, TOONS, PIRATES under the same Player) (This is the policy TBC recommends you follow.) 1) Screen Shot document the behavior in question. Use the full chat window to include the context of the conversation taking place. This will help better determine the violation in question. 2) An Eye Witness(s) of the transgression are also recommended, and their accounts of the incident will be taken into consideration for a means of action against the Player in question. (However, a screen shot helps to eliminate hearsay). 3) Send a description of the incident, along with Eye Witness Reports and the screen shot(s) of the violation via PM or Email to The Brethren Court Chairmen and Keeper of the Code. (See Steering Committee Roster thread for Members List) 4) The Court Chairmen and Keeper of the Code will then convene to determine what actions will be taken against the player in question. 5) See Article I, Section II for Disciplinary Actions filed against violators of The Code. -----[ ]-----Article II, Section I, Paragraph I No weapons shall be drawn whilst a meeting be going on. Violators will be given a warning, then be asked to leave if further disruptions continue. Guild Consequences Apply. See Article I, Section II, Paragraph I & II -----[ ]-----Article III, Section I, Paragraph I Steering Committee of the Brethren Court: No such title as Pirate Lord shall be given nor voted upon being given. In it’s place, a Committee of Volunteers shall be deemed with the responsibility of planning, coordinating & organizing as well as running and officiating in referee capacity in Court Proceedings and Events. Positions for Steering Committee are open to application (see thread for Application for Steering Committee) See Paragraph II below for a description of Job Titles & Duties. Article III, Section I, Paragraph II Keeper of the Code – To be called upon when matters of the Pirata Codex come into question, and speak on the behalf of all mates that honor the Code. Court Scribe – Keep Log of meeting notes for review, make note of new motions presented before the Court, Speak on behalf of the Court when matters pertaining to the official record keeping are called upon. Referees & Look Outs - Called upon during time of competition based events to coordinate and officiate the Event in a manner Fair to ALL. Man of Arms – Enforce the Code during time of gathering. Record the names of mates violating the law for disciplinary action. Speaker of the Court - Assists the Chairman during meetings. Helps maintain order by making a list of mates that wish to speak on the floor, and also assists the Floor Master/Mistress of the meeting as well. Event Planner - Submits new Event Ideas, Plans and organizes said events and assists in the execution of said events, in compliance with The Code. Assists The Speaker of the Court during meetings with matters pertaining to the Event Scheduled. Scout - Locates hidden and out of the way places to hold Court Meetings. Area should be big enough to accommodate the size of the Court and in a place where no wayward party may accidentally wander into our Meeting Circle. Should be accessible via TP ONLY to members of the Court. Locations for meetings will rotate on a weekly basis so an adequate number of locations will be necessary. Floor Master/Mistress - Designated to lead and organize consideration of a Motion on the floor. They usually are the Chairman and Speaker of the Court, unless otherwise designated by the Chairman or Speaker of the Court. Court Artisan - Candidate must have a fast computer with great video card for capturing screen shots at full resolution during massive player events. Must have a keen eye for photography such as croping the picture, framing the shot properly for dramatic effect, etc, etc. Responsible for taking screenshots of meetings and events to be posted in the Brethren Court Screen Shot Archives. Keeps an up to date and chronological screen shot album of our pirate family in the Screen Shot section. [Please PM me with suggestions re-guarding ideas on Job Titles and Duties for the Steering Committee] -----[ ]-----Article IV, Section I, Paragraph I Concerning New Guild Memberships, the Court welcomes all mates with a willingness to abide by the Code, and a desire to enlist in our endeavors. We ask that New Guilds seeking membership have your Guild Master fill out a New Guild Application form (see thread for New Guild Application Form) and it shall be reviewed by members of the Steering Committee (Article III) for approval. Article IV, Section I, Paragraph II Concerning New Guild Membership Approval Process: As a new guild applying to become a member of The Brethren Court, certain criteria must be met before a Vote is made for Approval of Membership. The Criteria are as follows: 1) The GM of the guild applying, as well as any Senior Officer Participating, has read The Code aka "Pirata Codex" of the Brethren Court. 2) The GM of the guild applying has filed an Application Form for New Guild Membership, with all fields of the form filled out properly. 3) The GM and Senior Leadership of the guild applying has informed THEIR Guild mates of the policies of The Code and Court, so they are aware of what behavior is expected of members of The Brethren Court. 4) The Guild applying then begins it's "Probation Period" of 1 month (this 1 month time frame may vary, depending on the activity of the guild involved in TBC functions) 5) When the Probation Period has ended, The Steering Committee will then announce to the Court that the guild applying has completed it's Probation Period and is up for a vote of the Court. 6) A Vote of the Court is then Held, 1 vote per Guild Represented, Yay or Nay, with the majority of votes constituting the results. 7) If the vote wins Yay, the Guild applying is then welcomed in as a member of The Brethren Court. 8) If the vote wins Nay, the Guild applying is then declined membership. 9) TBC reserves the right to decline membership prior to a Probation Period. (Reasons may Vary) Article IV, Section I, Paragraph III The Probation Period Each new guild applying for membership must undergo a 1 month Probation Period. This time acts as a way for the guilds of The Brethren Court to come to know the new applying guild and vice versa. This time also acts as a way for the guild applying to become familiar with the workings and processes of The Brethren Court functions and events. The Probation Period is measured by the accountablity of your guild, i.e. how well they cooperate with other members of The Brethren Court and other pirates in general. Article IV, Section I, Paragraph IV This includes: - Attending Meetings and Events during your Probation Period. - Being Active in your participation of said meetings and events, i.e. you're not just there for the ride. - Showing a willingness to help others. - Showing that your guild and guild mates can adhere to The Code and Disney TOS policies. - Sharing your ideas and interests with The Brethren Court. Article IV, Section I, Paragraph V Behavior that can adversely effect your Probation Period: - Not adhering to The Code, i.e. having guild mates who disrupt TBC functions. - Causing Drama. - Violating The Code or Disney TOS during NON TBC Functions, i.e. Regular Game Play (YES, you are responsible for The Code at ALL TIMES, as well as responsible for the behavior of your guild mates, we are here to set a standard of behavior suitable for our cause) - Lack of Participation during TBC Functions, i.e. attendance and activity during your Probation Period. - Politics driven motivations - Arrogance or Sarcastic Behavior -----[ ]-----Article V, Section I, Paragraph I The Rights of Parlay - Definition - A discussion or conference, especially one between enemies over terms of truce or other matters, including special circumstances. Article V, Section I, Paragraph II Special Circumstance - Definition - 1) A condition or fact attending an event and having some bearing on it; a determining or modifying factor. 2) A condition or fact that pertains to or must be considered in the determining of a course of action. Article V, Section I, Paragraph III Representative - Definition - A Guild Master or a High Officer chosen by their GM to speak on the behalf of their Guild. Article V, Section I, Paragraph IV Yield - Definition - When a Representative who has been recognized to speak "yields" to another, he or she permits the other to speak while the first Representative retains the floor. Technically, a Speaker may yield to another only for a question. Yield the Floor - Definition - A Representative who has been recognized to speak "yields the floor" when he or she completes his or her remarks and terminates his or her recognition. Yield Time - Definition - When the Court has reached a unanimous consent agreement limiting the time for debate and placing it under the control of Floor Master/Mistress (Article III, Section I, Paragraph II), a Representative may be recognized to speak only if a Floor Master/Mistress yields the Representative a specified amount of time to speak. The Chair then recognizes the Representative receiving the time, not the Floor Master/Mistress who yields the time, to hold the floor. Article V, Section II, Paragraph I Invoking The Rights of Parlay under the Articles of Special Circumstance. Order of Succession - Definition - The act or process of following in order or sequence. Article V, Section II, Paragraph II The Order of Succession for Invoking the Rights of Parlay under the Articles of Special Circumstance is as follows: 1) A Special Circumstance must first be acknowledged by the Court in order to proceed. 2) A Representative must then make a Motion before the Court to Invoke The Rights of Parlay under the Articles of Special Circumstance (see Article V, Section I, Paragraph II). 3) The Motion must be seconded by another IMPARTIAL Representative of the Court. 4) The Chair recognizes the Motion and the second, then Presents the Motion to the Floor Master/Mistress to allot an amount of time befitting the topic at hand. 5) The Floor Master/Mistress acknowledges the Chair's request, then issues the appropriate amount of time needed for the Invoker to proceed with the Rights of Parlay. 6) The Representative Invoking the Rights of Parlay is Recognized by the Court and may then take the floor and begin his time after the first message is posted. 7) The Representative may then use that time to plead their case, "yield" to other questions while still keeping the floor, and "yield time" to other Representatives wishing to speak on the matter at hand. 8) The Representative will then "Yield the Floor" when their alloted time has elapsed or they have made their case, at which point, they may "yield time" back to the Floor Master/Mistress. -----[ ]-----Article VI, Section I, Paragraph I The Articles of Sovereignty Sovereignty – definition – 1) Rightful status, independence, or prerogative. 2) Complete independence and self-governing. Article VI, Section I, Paragraph II The Brethren Court is not beholden to outside influence, accusations, rumors or rubble-rousers. Article VI, Section I, Paragraph III As such, The Brethren Court conducts action as it sees fit regarding matters pertaining to The Code, Events and other TBC activities, i.e. Public Relations & Membership, etc, etc. Article VI, Section I, Paragraph IV Although we welcome constructive feed back and ideas on how to improve relations amongst guilds within the pirate community, those Guild Masters who have worked long and hard on this project deserve the benefit of the doubt on matters concerning allegations of violations against our own Code, from outside influence, however, such matters will still be taken into consideration by the Steering Committee. -----[ ]-----[PLEASE NOTE, THE FOLLOWING SECTION WAS RESEARCH DONE ON THE ORIGINAL PIRATA CODEX FROM THE POTC MOVIE, WE MAY TRY TO IMPLEMENT SECTIONS FROM THIS CODE SHOULD YOU MATES WANT TO MAKE A MOTION ON IT AND PASS IT THROUGH A VOTE AND INTO LAW] Known rules from the original code of the Brethren Court, as set forth by Morgan and Bartholomew: Rule One - Befriend others wisely! The Right of Parlay Article II, Section I, Paragraph VIII (sharing of the spoils) Article II, Section II, Paragraph I (whoever first spotted a treasure-laden ship could choose the best pistol for themselves) Every crew member is to have an equal share in any treasure found Any man who falls behind is left behind! An act of war and parley with adversaries may only be declared by the Pirate King, who could only be elected by popular vote by all nine Pirate Lords. The code also contained strict regulations on eye patch color and peg leg size as well as implying that a pirate never gives another away. KEEP A KEEN EYE ON THIS POST FOR UPDATES TO THE CODE
