Do you use your true 100% real life personality in the game?
I saw a good poll earlier and thought of another good question for a poll.
Do you use your true real life personality in the game? |

Maria,
First - I love this question! Definitely gives some insight to player personality. Eliza, is obviously not me, (her being a young woman and I being an adult man) - but parts of her are me. She is well mannered, helpful, often a peacemaker and attentive. Parts of her personality are extensions of who I'd like to be. Eliza is outspoken, especially to authority (like the GM during RP sessions), very loyal and will always step up for a fight (I'd like to think I would). Bucky, my other pirate, tries very much to be a ladies' man - as some would attest. He compliments many a lovely that catches his eye and can be a dreadful flirt. But, he too - shows manners. I'm sure some players' pirates may even be direct opposite of themselves, as well. |

I suppose its a bit of both. I act like myself when chatting for the most part.
But when it comes to writing their story, its also a little bit of both as well. I do see myself in both Maria and Juliana. But most of their character comes from who I see Maria and Juliana as. Maria being the the level headed, protective older sister who would do just about anything to protect her family. She thinks things through and has grown up quickly after being thrust into the difficult situations they have been put through. In the beginning Juliana is more timid and delicate, but as the story progresses she grows into a short tempered, courageous, adventurous young lass who is greatly affected by the changes in her life. She acts more on impulse than rationalization. Both are compassionate though and despite their fiery attitudes, they still feel sympathy. It's an internal conflict that keeps them both balanced between pirate and the young girls that are hidden behind their new life of piracy. Haha, got a little off topic... but you can see that I'm not quite like my pirates. Or at least how I perceive them to be. Parts of their personalities do however, reflect my own. Now if what you mean is do I act in game like I am in real life, then the answer is mostly yes

Pirategirl,
No. You were dead on topic. That's what Maria was curious about. |

Yes! I am nothing but a swashbuckling plundering dirty pirate in real life!
Not really I am quiet in game. |

I personally believe that we all have different "masks" of our personalities, and that it is near impossible to act the same to every single person on earth. I believe that it is very impossible that anyone would act the same exact way they would to their lover, their mom, their friend, their POTC friend, I just cannot see it happening. I think everyone has a specific "mask" that he/she wears for whoever they're talking to; so in end, I think that you can act some-what similar in POTC to who you are in real life, but I think that if we were to compare someone to who they are in real life versus who they are on POTC, the results would be very different. Feel free to disagree, but that is my opinion.

Seeing everything in type and not hearing it in sound, I am quicker-witted. As well, without people I know with whom I truly fear the consequences of my words, I suppose I'm looser. I'm something a little like my real self in the game, but you'd never catch any solemn or serious undertone, which I do possess in real life. It still is my personality, but really it's only half, a half I tend not to show in the personal world.

I'm actually more of a goof in RL than in game. I always love a good laugh where ever I am. I have to admit that my personality does come from a comic book character.
