The Pen of the Hand of Jolly Roger

I suppose that in some ways the title of this may be misleading. However, to the one with knowledge of Jolly Roger, the title may be found true enough. Jolly Roger is unable to write on two accounts: one, he is unable to out of ability, as anything that is a plant or comes from a plant is corrupted under him, be it a ship's wood, paper, or a measly flytrap; two, he is stark raving mad, the quality I adore of my captain. In truth, the title fits, for I am Jolly Roger's right hand--his right hand man. This title itself is fitting, for one, Jolly Roger has no right hand, and two, I am his first mate.

Jack Sparrow. So much of Jolly Roger's being revolves around Jack Sparrow. Jolly Roger may be the earth to Jack Sparrow's sun. This is truly a reason to admire the witty Jack, but the fact that I admire him or the fact that he is the essence of Roger's true being cannot be made known to Roger. Thus, it is necessary that this little journal be hidden from him. It is made even more necessary for the fact that Jolly Roger, being a great man, needs have his name written in history. For that fact, it is necessary that I risk this danger. In the end, it shall only serve to give Roger the respect and awe he deserves, and I suppose it shall preserve his name. Though he is certainly a dead man, and yet walking, it is the fate of all dead men to depart. So though Jolly Roger may walk (though dead) like none before, I cannot say I see him walking this Earth in the next century, in the next two centuries, in the next millenium. At least as of the year 2009, he shall be a dead man, not walking. This won't be a tragedy, as it happens to all men. Indeed, for the sake of all men, it may be required that one as evil as Jolly Roger die, for if the evil of mankind was never constantly cut short, it'd be great, and, if already so, it'd be greater.

That being said, Jolly will die. I, having pledged support long before the current state of Jolly occured, will serve him to his end. My service shall last him longer still.

Roger's Raiders: the prestigious, feared name of Roger's feared crew. The Undead Raider, you ask? The Undead Raider is a member I suppose of Roger's original crew and of his current crew. Deadly and terrifying to say the least. I am one of these. We aren't as the others of Jolly's undead, for we are somewhat intact, soul and body. Our loyalty I dare say wouldn't be greater if Jolly Roger were in us himself. As well, our faculties he has found a great deal useful. Still, to do a service to Jolly, I suppose I must start far before I get involved.

Roger, his long-lost last name being lost far before he was born, was born in darkness. He was one of those few people in history to be born aboard a pirate ship. From birth onward, he'd learn no decency. He was named after his captain, the Grinning Roger. The Grinning Roger was Roger's tutor in every way. Roger learned of his cruelty, and copied it. Roger learned of his ambitions, and traced them. And Roger would later learn of his history, and, as fate will have it, put the same into motion. Having sworn my service to the captain, I dare say I hope the Jolly Roger won't share the Grinning Roger's fate, though such would be a great ending for the man.

The Jolly Roger would kill the Grinning Roger and steal his crew. In truth, Roger's Raiders started with the Grinning Roger, though it was indeed Jolly Roger's original crew: I have penned no lie. The similarity of the names in fact made for the ease of transition. Jolly openly challenged Grinning. Grinning was angered by this, and said he'd deal with Jolly himself, teaching him a lesson in front of the crew. But this did not occur. I killed him. This was the deed behind the title I was given.

That no honor exists among thieves is a lie. It very well does. The crew consented to kill him there. The Jolly Roger asked them who they served. They said "The Grinning Roger." Roger then grinned. Several men, noticing the irony, swore their allegiance in good humor. One, very well angered, started saying something, but I shall not pen his words. I once again earned the name of Jolly's Right Hand. Roger then noted the similarity of his name and Grinning Roger's, and stated the feared name of Roger's Raiders would have the same prestige with ease. However, he declared a new grand ambition he had, a departure from the tutelage of the Grinning Roger. He'd become a pirate lord, and his men would be princes among pirates. He won his crew then and there.

Such a grand tale is impossible to relate in one day. It shall be resumed later on.

Notes:
First off, Jolly Roger lacks the focus to write, as he has no shortage of darkened anger. Thus, I have written this. Secondly, to clarify events a bit, I suppose I must detail all in its place. I write of these things long after they've occured. Being born human, Roger could have concievably written his own account, had he such a care. He didn't. Nowadays, such is an impossibility. You may have encountered a crew of his on the high seas. Seeing such as the state of their ship, you can imagine any such paper he'd touch. Thirdly, the Raiders of Roger's were a prestigious group who had sworn absolute fealty to the Grinning Roger--we were the ones either skilled and feared enough to be on his own ship, or the ones skilled and feared and fearful enough to command a ship in his fleet. Now, and lastly, these first events have occured even before he met Jack. I merely mentioned Jack so soon as to note his importance to the story. However, a knowledge of the Sparrow's doings can greatly help for the timing of these events. All this is occuring a good many years before the mutiny of Jack's crew.
Now the despicable, admirable, cowardly Jack has a way of gleaming fame from exploits that others had done, that he himself imagined, or that he had played very little part in. At the end of one such exploit, Roger got a distasteful first impression of the man, to put it mildly. At the end of another exploit, Roger downright hated the man. Unfortunately for our Roger, there was soon to be a third exploit that involved Roger, of which Jack would play a small part. As always, Jack extracted the fame which was far from him: indeed, it was due Roger. At this moment in time, our Roger stood ready with his cutlass in his right hand to end Jack, when one of Jack's crew (seeing that Jack could see that Roger didn't like him, as it wasn't too subtle--the "Sparrowww!!!" cry was already popularized by the second such venture involving both Jack and Roger) that Jack had decided to hide away slashed it off. That man met his end by the hand of 3 Raiders, though he managed to shoot another down, which is quite a feat. Jack managed to escape too.

That occurred at their third meeting. Many years earlier, before he had even captained his ship, before he met Jack, it was supposedly Jack working as an agent of the East India Trading Company who cost Roger his leg. Now this is very doubtable, and it is likely that Jack was merely casting himself in a role he never played, but the Company is veritably responsible. Regardless, Roger with good reason hated Jack. Some of the crew, now openly humored at my title of Roger's Right Hand, greatly angered him, and I was forced to stow them away. My title, being intertwined with that of the Jolly Roger, was forced to be held in fear.

* * * * * *

All of this though leaves little of the details of many of Jolly Roger's adventures. He is a truly wicked man, so it was said that his smile was to be as feared as much as his wrath. His adventures truly rival those of Jack's exaggerations, but they being hard to believe often get told as mere myths. One such reason is another good reason to envy Jack, as Jack in doing much lesser ventures would get great notoriety. Regardless, we of the crew of the Phantom would become greatly feared in the Caribbean, no matter how many of the tales of our doings were believed. While you could marvel at Jack, you'd gulp at Roger.

The Phantom was one of the things that Jolly would not inherit from Grinning. In the midst of a costly battle, we were forced to apprehend it. However, it was all worth the price to gain this ship. It was a true masterpiece of every art imaginable. It turned through the waves like none other. It was the fastest ship known to us, besides perhaps The Black Pearl of Jack's. In the midst of a storm the ship was at complete ease. The crew fell in love with her, and gave her many nicknames which would later classify the feared fleet of Jolly Roger's. On this ship would all of Jolly Roger's greatest feats be done.

* * * * * *

Jolly Roger delved deep into the supernatural, it is well known. Many who know the tales know the fate of his appearance. Many may have encountered his doomed servants, on land or on doomed vessels on the sea. A few may have seen the curse of the moon that he placed on the Caribbean. If you know of Ammo Dorsi, then you know that Jolly Roger cared for the stuff of superstition (Roger being one fearless enough to threaten or kill one such person ought to tell you of the type of man he is). That only tells of his current state. Jolly Roger has had many travels in worlds apart from us, and I being his closest crew mate have been on them all with him.

There be this item called the Moonstone, of which you might have heard. It has, supposely, the power to curse or protect all at sea, or to curse all those in the light of the moon, or something to that effect. If you've heard of it, you may know that the curse ol' Roger placed on the Caribbean failed to claim those at sea because he lost possession of it. The quest he undertook to take this mystic item can rival all the tales of Jack Sparrow, true or not. Regardless, for a month, the world breathed easy as Jolly Roger vanished from it. He spent that month on an island that can only be seen on the night when the full moon shines brightly. Failing to take the Moonstone on the night he came there, he was forced to stay a whole month. Initially, during that time, we were all terrified, as those there were of the state that we are in currently. However, Jolly Roger is a name for all to fear, and eventually those cursed on the island were all wary of him and our crew. Upon obtaining the Moonstone, the crew of the Phantom returned to the world of the living.

Once more, the time to tell the tale must wait. I shall resume later.

Oh, thanks. With the bump, I may bother to resume it.

EDIT (Actually not an edit, but rather a replacement of the old post): notes have been added, as I wish to weave this story between the movies and game perfectly. Next part is coming soon.

And that part has just been added.

I'm gonna resume this, but my memory doesn't serve and any new updates will change lore, at least as concerns Roger.

amazing writing League. In the story about me ( in the sailors yarn - the Story of a Cursed Man : Midhav Darkskull ), Jolly Roger gets mentioned and his real name is Jeremiah 'Jolly' Roger. Read the story and what part he has to play in it, and how i met him years before the Curse of the Black Pearl even happened, and how he saved me from the dreaded Naga of New Orleans, and the assassination plot of cap'n Jack to which i failed, and lastly of how i gave him the 'Fury' cannon shots....
