System Shut Down In Mid Play
I am having a problem. Whenever I get on, I can play for a while. Then all of a sudden, in mid-play, without warning, my computer will shut down on itself. It ONLY does this when I am playing Pirates Online. Does anyone else have this problem? How do I fix it?

It might be an issue with overheating.
It is highly unlikely that it is the game itself that is directly causing the system to shut down, but playing a game like POTCO could generate alot of heat from your system, particularly the video card with all the 3D rendering (but could be CPU also) which may cause your system to shutdown (or reboot). A system shutting itself down in that manner usually points towards overheating, or issues with the power supply. |

Definitely sounds like either a heat or power issue to me. My desktop has this problem at the moment as it can do anything else for hours on end but once I'm in a more intensive application like POTCO for about 5 minutes, POOF. Its specific problem, though, is that the power supply is not large enough (in regards to wattage) to support my video card so it's actually unable to supply enough power to all of my system's components. I need to buy a new case (no good ventilation path in current one) and power supply for my problem though.
Overall it does sound like a hardware issue specifically in relation to overheating or the power supply itself. Try playing the game with the cover of your computer off. If you see an improvement, heat is probably an issue. As Zep mentioned, mostly likely the video card though the processor could be plausible depending on how the computer case is designed for air flow. If you see the same results, it may still be heat or an issue with the power supply like my desktop has. If your computer is under a warranty, have it checked out properly (either through the manufacturer or store your warranty is through) so that it doesn't become void. If it has no warranty left and you don't feel comfortable troubleshooting the insides, definitely find a good computer service shop to have it looked at. Heat and power issues are pretty serious if left unhandled as overheating can cause other parts to fail and power supply malfunctions can cause other problems and potential damage to the system.

I had this problem once, and it turned out to be a video card driver issue. If the previously mentioned fixes don't solve your problem, trying updating your video drivers.

I know that when I play pirates - the old CPU and Video Card Fans go overdrive (its actually quite amazing just to start the game - and within a minute hear the fans speeding up to full speed... then exit the game and 10 minutes later slowing down again...)
It does sound like an overheating issue - if its a laptop you could try to get a 'cooling blanket' for it, else, if its the main comp possibly better / more air circulation is the answer (espically if the vents are clogged with dust) |

Its possible a corrupt driver file causes your system to reboot/shutdown.. BUT If this is the case its usually the same action each time in the game that causes the problem. Like everytime you try to launch your boat or something. If your system is shutting down at intermittent intervals and actions within the game, its likely a heat issue. |
