Haha, We didn't have repairs then Kat. Actually, repairs are only a few months old. However, since repairs fix sails now, I'm sure they would fix the holes.

Taking out the masts was a true skill then. You have to have an eagle eye to take down a ships sails from a distance - at speed.

If they revamp it, it would be nice to leave burn marks on the hull to, making it easier to trace where your shots are landing.

Haha, this is how it went Kat. We didn't use to have repairs at sea unless you were in SVS, and then it wasn't mini games. It was pressing shift to repair and watching your character hammer for a few minutes until your ship was fully repaired. When you needed to repair your ship, you would go to the shipwright for repairs. That simple really.

For all you wondering why they took it out, here's some side information. When they took the ability out, they said that there was an "improvement" to the ship battle masts breaking system. They didn't say it just like I did, but it was phrased so you'd think, "Hmm... this sounds cool."

I have a strong feeling it was taken out because of the amount of physics needed for it. You have to consider the holes affecting gameplay, and maybe the developers didn't want to deal with that? It looked perfect during sea battles, and while it did cause lag, it wasn't enough for them to seriously think about taking it out. But they did. Why? I don't know, because they want the game to stink?

There's no reason the game can't be great, and have amazing ship battles, with holes in the sides of ships, half broken masts, etc...

This is DISNEY we're talking about. Whoever is limiting what the developers can do, and whoever is keeping them from getting better servers to handle lag NEEDS TO BE FIRED. The game is being held back DRASTICALLY because of this guy, or group of people.

I think that the reason shooting holes in sails was taking out was as part of the refocusing effort to re-launch game with a significantly lower minimum computer spec (to reach a broader audience). So, while I want the ability to shoot holes in sails reinstated, unfortunately, it is gone. One of many things that have been taken out of the game that I miss.

I remember that feature. I also remember when you could see holes you shot into the hull too. Good times.

Ahh yes I remeber that, it was cool that where ever you hit the sail a hole would pop up. And as I saw someone in a above post say "It was a true skill to knock down sails" is true. Only way to take out the sail back then was when you hit the little peice of wood. Not just any Part of the sail. So I say YES! They should bring it back.

And yes SeaKing, I heard that once someone put up an idea, such as a thread like this and a little bit later Disney put the Exact same thing up. Now it coul be that someone just sent the idea to Disney, but we can just keep the happy thought that Disny does care enough to look in these post. I mean it is on their Officle POTCO website. Lol

Ahh... I miss this. And all the old sailing stuff. Seeing that Cadet at the helm of a Ferret, using grapeshot to thin them out, holes in the ship and sails. I miss it so bad. If anything needs to be reinstated, it's the old sailing mechanisms.

I think there are sail repair mini-game stuff and images of holes in sails and planks (Hull) still in the files. This doesn't mean they are going to add them, but that they just haven't completely disregard the idea. I am sure if we all E-mail them they might consider putting it back in.
