When the first thread was posted about the 'new' loot, drops, and inventory sytem, I posted a negative comment. Because of that, I was berated, called names, and generally ignored. Quite a few members of this forum have shunned me since then.
Well, I knew then, as I know now, that this IS NOT what we, the players, want. In answer to a couple of the posts below: I had 4 fully Mastered level 40 pirates. I played each and every one of them totally differently. Each has his own unique skill set. Now, I only have 1 level 50 fully Mastered. The highest of the other 3 is only level 43. The other 2 are still level 40. I say all this to emphasize that I have not rushed into the new levels and am complaining about not having anything left to do. I have plenty to do. Grind weapons! The problem is that in order to bring all the others to level 50, they are going to have to lose their individuality. They are all going to become the exact same pirate. There is nothing from level 40 to level 50 that allows different tracks to get there. Just like everyone else, I worked hard to win the Pearl. Now I want to know WHY? Where does the first story chapter lead? Where is the second story chapter? The updates that Disney keeps working on, the supposedly "NEW" stuff that they keep giving us: new more powerful weapons, redone islands, new caves, updated more powerful enemies and ships: They keep fixing things that ARE NOT broken! Now we get a new inventory system. And more, 'new' more powerful weapons. (Been there, done that.) None of this is SUBSTANCE! The few items that were truely interesting, mainly the Rott quests and the invasions and EITC fleets, are going (or have already gone) away! Again, I feel that Disney is making a grave mistake there, too. These were good things, but they won't be available to anyone who wasn't/isn't already in the game. It's almost as if Disney is creating things like this for only the existing players, and not for the future. I am beginning to feel that they are playing the game to an end. What use are quests that can never be played by new players? Are they planning to not bring in any new people? Have they given up on growing the pirate population? Are they just going to let the existing players keep dropping out until they finally close the servers down? (Like they did on VMK?) If the Rott quests, and the invasions, fleets, etc. were level coded, if they opened to new players at predetermined levels like other quests, then maybe it would be more fair and equitable. But we don't see that happening. I want a true story chapter. That is, in my opinion, the ONLY thing that the developers should be concentrating on. I haven't given up on this game. I still pay to keep my blue name. I still log on to see my guys gain progress. I still try to make up activities to help keep others in my guild active and involved. I enjoy being with my friends. I'm not on as much as I used to be, or as much as I would like to be, but that's because of RL issues, and not because of the game. I feel that I have made some great friends here on the forum, and in the game itself. For that reason alone, I wouldn't just walk away and give up. I do feel the frustration that some have posted here, but to those people I say, it's a decision you have to make. Me posting this should tell you what my decision is. I do have one final thing to add. I want to thank EX8404 for this quote: Quote:

I'm going to say this nice, and flat out. For pirates such as myself, who have pirates close to if not mastered, new content will keep you excited for a week or so. Then, your bored again. The only way to actually experience the entire inventory system, is to create a new pirate. This way, you get to experience every little thing you hit along the way (but honestly, who wants to create a new pirate for every single update?) With a higher leveled pirate, the content Disney adds now is most likely going to be, in laymans terms, easy and boring.
Personally, I'm with the game, because its fun. Now, by fun, do I mean the content? Not exactly. I'm here because its fun to experience the game with my mates. I wouldn't care if the game was one island, one server, and one quest - I'm sure I, along with others, would still be entertained by it. Realize: MMO's are different from regular console games. With console gams, you beat everything, and then wait for the next game to come out. With MMO's.. basically the same thing, only your waiting for content. But what makes people, like me, stay with MMO's between that content? It's the social aspect. Lets face it, 95% of the game revolves around interaction with other players. Now, I'm not saying you can't hit 50, do all the quests, and master all your weapons without help. But then its not going to be nearly as enjoying as if you find a guild, meet some friends, and do things away from the games actual content. I don't care that WoW has so much content it takes up, what, 10 GB for every expansion? That you can play for years and still not get bored. I don't care that Guild Wars has this, or POTBS has that. I care about MY game, and how entertaining it is by itself, not how entertaining it is compared to other games. And as far as I see it, POTCO gets an A+ ![]() NOTE: Opinion

HOWEVER, they don't want us to join the enemy, and they haven't stated whether we'll be able to chose a path of a gypsy, shooter, cannoneer, swordsman, etc... What they SHOULD do, in my opinion, is let us join the enemy for quite some time to "spy" on them, but we can go back later and join another enemy. Like Davy Jones' crew. Who wouldn't want to join them, just to see what it's like to be the enemy? I don't know if that's what you were getting at or not, Basil. And I just want to say, I'm sick and tired of seeing all these things being redone. If they wanted them like this, they should have been like that in the first place! No excuses. If they didn't like the caves, they should have been the way they are now since the beginning. And the second story quest. They said on their site that the reason the Kraken was taking so long was because he was literally the plot of the second story quest. That was back in April 2009. Said he would be there by the end of the year. They didn't promise it, but they said he would be. Didn't end up happening. Let's face it, they're lagging way behind. This inventory system and all the loot drops... should have been here from the beginning. What's new? It's just changes. What would be new is the Kraken and that's what us players want. What I'm afraid is going to happen, is what the Kraken comes out there will be this huge rush of players to finish the second story quest. Woo! We finished the quest, boss battle time! First time doing the boss battle, wo.... that was cool. Second time... that's it? It's going to be a big disappointment when this thing finally reaches the game. They say it's worth the wait, but was waiting for the black pearl boss battle to be fixed worth the wait? No... it wasn't as good as they said it would be. It was kind of fun, but not like any boss battle in a console game. Waiting for this second story quest has become a load on some of us. Especially in this economy, paying $10 a month or $80 a year is just not worth it when you're getting anything cool in return. |
