When

At what point does one get seriously bored with a game? I do not have 4 maxed out pirates like some nor is my 1 pirate maxed, but, honestly, I don't want to max out. I'm bored out of my skull just trying to max out weapons, but what am I going to do when I do max out? Start a new pirate and repeat the process?

Are new weapons really worth me spending money on only to max out the raised level caps or find some gear? I don't need new gear or new skills or raised level caps, I can kill level 50 enemies easily already. Even a few new enemies wouldn't be worth paying money.

I guess in my rant I really want to know, is this game worth it at the end of the day?
I'm just sad as there isn't anything meaningful left to do. Even if I had my dream of just being able to customize my ship, how long would I be happy? 1 week?

Yeah. Welcome to the dilemma that so many of us have experienced.

The truth is, once you have finished the game, there is nothing to do. Disney will throw you little crumbs along the way but, at the end of the day, you realize that stuff like new caves and new islands are just things to look at and not things to do.

I know. First off, why in the world wasn't ship customization part of the package from the beginning? And secondly, it would be great and distracting for, like you said, about a week.

What most folks do is one of two things. You either embrace the social side of the game or you just fade away into the sunset. I have to be honest. It it weren't for Test and the fact that I just keep forgetting to cancel the $10/month I have scheduled, I would stop playing all together.

Everyone has their different views on the game, different ways to have fun, different ways to be considered bored.. so there's really no way to tell. You sound like most do, so finding something new to do, either in game, or out is the next step.

As ex8404 said, many stay for the social aspect of the game. Trying that out could be a solution. If that doesn't work, taking a short break from the game could help spark your interest once again. Or, find out what made you interested in the first place, and pursue that.

In response to the new weapons, no, personally I don't feel they are worth it. Granted they are something new, but until there is a use for them.. I don't see a reason. Add in that our body types are possibly being changed.. it's definitely not worth it at this time - the future, yes, now.. that's the players call.

You probably would be tired of it in one week. Thinking about it, a lot of us would be. Sure, plenty of us enjoy this idea, but it feels like it's too late. If it were there since day one, it would be more connected to the game.. but if it is a new addition, it almost feels forced upon the players - such as the inventory. Perfect example.. many of us grew used to certain parts of the game.. old islands, no inventory.. then they add updates which completely alter the previous.. that forces change that sometimes we don't want.

I have done a radical 180 degree turn on the whole Loot Drop, Inventory, New Weapons thing. Since the last update, the third total reset, I am over it. I have played for a few hours and got drops of Ammo and Potions only.

A guild mate said that you have to play in large groups to get good drops in order to encourage crewing up. And that ended it for me. (That and the unmotivated, ridiculous, body style change.) I have never understood trading rep for loot...Anyway, Drew, I hope you find your answers.

Yeah. I wish I had said that.

Edit: I think I am spending more time here than I am in the game...

I agree a little bit. The resets didn't kill it for me, I just don't like inventories that much. Its just one of those things where, it wasn't there to begin with, and it takes some getting used to. Throw in the fact that every other game has it.. POTCO loses some of its uniqueness. But the rate of drops decreasing is also very bothersome at times.

Crewing up doesn't increase the amount of good drops you get, it just increases the speed of which you gather them. On test I was playing solo, and got my only new weapons since the reset (not rare, but it was something). Crewed up, got tonics and gold with ammo here and there. Left crew, got a new (old) pair of pants. *What I meant about speed is you can kill stuff quicker*

Just throwing this out there... this update also seems to increase the want to "rep steal". I am not to bothered by it, since test isn't about leveling.. but if it continues on live it will be annoying. It seems that now, all people care about is finding loot, even if it means attacking someone's target.

I hope this helps you out, Drew. It's your call what you do in the end, just remember, your experience and opinions may differ.

I have a simple solution. If it is no longer fun move on. Don't complain, just move on. Conmplaining just to complain is a rather lame. Remember this is just a game, a distraction from lifes dayly grind. If no joy is found playing stop. Find a new pursuit.

There are a lot of MMO's out there try a new one, join there forum. Then complain there on how bored you are! LOL!!

Welcome to life, it gets boring when nothing changes. Make ye own change mate!

Good luck, Godspeed, and Fair Winds on ye journey!

Check it again. Not a single person has complained "just to complain." There are people who like POTCO and hate seeing what it has become. And this is an open forum. Not a Fanboy site. So you can expect differing opinions and intelligent discussion on both sides. No lectures needed about how to live life.

If you want only the opinions you want to hear, then you need to start your own forum.

Sven Osymthe 04-04-2010 04:32 PM

I get bored, and I also enjoy playing the game. Didn't post complaints (other than the rep deal), but rather my opinions to help Drew.

If you don't like people "complaining", simply don't read the post :)

Rannulf 04-04-2010 04:43 PM

Easy guys, easy now! Just a small exercise in me 1st amendment rights. I love reading all ye posts its entertaining in and of its self! Just a little life advice. Re-read what I wrote (sorry for the poor spelling). Not an attack, just an observation, and advice.

I find people who complain and do nothing about it, but complain to be a real treat. They keep life interesting.

I did not direct this at either of ye! Just a pre-emptive strike so to speak for what is to come in the thread for sure!

Oh and a :36: to ye!

Relax, breath, and rant on my fellow forumites!

I admit. It does get boring after a while! I personally love the inventory! But it is hard to get used to because you might not know which sword is better than the last from a loot drop. It was fun to discover new things! But I don't know how long it would take to see all you need to see. It is nice to get free tonic and ammo!

How about a year ago.

MacIronhawk 04-04-2010 06:46 PM

For me, once I max out I can keep on playing the game for a month before I get bored.

I'm entertained, like others said, because of the test server. However, having lost progress from level 13 to 19 really just put in a whole week down the toilet, especially since I was hoping to get the grenade quest by the end of the week. Didn't happen.

One of the only reasons I'm still left in the game is because i'm looking forward to a second story quest out on test.

But with my luck I won't be finished with the first story quest on test to see the next.

Mac, something tells me you will have plenty of time to finish the Pearl before the second story is released...

Nelly Darkpaine 04-05-2010 01:13 AM

I finally left after WAITING for over a year for something new. IMO players shouldnt have to pay to do NOTHING. Mastered my pirate twice, and only after several others realized how horribly repetitive and basic the main story quest is/was.

Now? I play Guild Wars - NO MONTHLY FEE - TONS TO DO - and lots to discover. LESS LAG, more fun, more events, more entertainment for WAY less money. =/

nitnek 04-05-2010 01:39 AM

I totaly agree with you Nelly. I'm doing the same as you !
