No one can stop you from using VOIP. They can ban you from giving out the IP of the server you use, however.

If it is all about getting around the chat filters that makes using VoiP a no no then yes POF would qualify because we can chat here while playing POTCO there by chatting with pirates without going thru the game. For that matter a guild could for example set up a conference call with info given out on a guild web site that would do the same. Does it alter game play not really should it be grouped with speed glitch programs macro mice or keyboards NO! AS long as info is not passed in game it appears D cannot and will not do anything about it so if you dont want to use it dont if you do do it, it is up to each gamer but it is clearly not cheating!

It doesn't really matter to me either way, but if VoiP is going to be used, I think there should be some pretty strict guidelines. For example, the only people who can communicate via VoiP should be the ones who are at least age 16 and have open chat.
I don't know... maybe it's the whole mother's instinct thing. I love this game and you guys are all great people, but there really is danger lurking around the internet. Since POTCO was targeted towards a younger audience, it's quite plausible that the classic "creepy people" are lurking around and would undoubtedly abuse it. I hate thinking ill of people but I've watched way too many episodes of "To Catch a Predator" and had too many experiences when I was young with creeps trying to weasel personal information out of kids. |

I understand your concerns Lisa.
And I don't mean to stray off topic but it concerns the use of VoiP and the dangers to kids. No one put the player and his parent knows the player's age. Disney can't magically detect the age of a random family member who decides to play at a given time and therefore can't automatically adjust the filters. Parents should be monitoring their kids use of the computer, particularly with younger children. If a parent is concerned about what their kids are exposed to then they should not only set up the game filters but should have also set up personal pc filters. Parents can set up administrative control of their pc's using a password that is not obvious to the children (that's how I make sure my grandson can't open up programs on my pc without me knowing) and then set up individual accounts with specific paramenter for each User. But then they must remember to follow the rules that we are all given regarding passwords...Don't Write Them Down. Make it something you would remember, but they would have no clue about. As to VoIP, most of us are just using it to chat about the things that well we just wouldn't want to put in open chat. (I mean who wants to tie up game chat with stuff like upcoming surgeries, the new recipe we found, how much rain we got yesterday, and yes... for some of us joking and kidding.)
