It's still in it's beta stages.
New updated did seem to help some. Though I'm still getting lots of lag. |

Nick,
There's gotta be a way to get you in the game. It really /bugs me when a person(s) can't seem to get anything to work. Like a puzzle that eludes solving...damn the cannon balls, we are sailing through! -) Perhaps you have setup your Operating System in a way that interfers with the client/server handshake? I know that when I installed .NET 3.0, I had to troubleshoot some other applications that had issues with it. Same when I upgraded my WinXP to SP2...new problems arose. One thing that really helped was installing and extra 1 meg of DDR2 400FSB memory. That alone cleared up 5 issues. What can I or we, short of buying you a new computer and a T3 line, do to get you in the game? Batleth, try logging out and quitting the game. Then log back in. I found that there is a serious memory leak that accumlates the longer you play per session. If you logout & quit, then relog in..it clears out the pagefile memory and is less laggy for a while. Sometimes the virtual memory gets so bogged down...that when I normally logout and quit the game, it drops me to the Microsoft Error dialog. I try to relog every hour or so. But you are right, the game as a is still very laggy. I encounter a lot of lag when crossing lighting boundries. Going from dusk to light or dark...going from dark deep seas to light coastal seas....going from non-detailed long distance island views to detailed foliage and/or nearby town structures. Many of those are dependent on the power of your graphic card and how fast it can render textures without your computer's cpu taking a huge hit....Broadsides Port! -( Dolnor Numbwit Eternal Newbie aka Will/Billy Greasefish

Nick can play, just with lag he said lol.
But, the lag is much better, I don't get any serious lag for a hour then it starts bad. better, but not good lol ~Cpt.Sea

Try docking, jumping off your ship, then getting back on.... I didn't stay on long enough to check every port...
And it seems like the Navy ships cheat even more... what fun is that?

Lag isnt the issue I don't mind lag as they have low spec test servers on low end bandwidth so that is to be expected. Plus im in Australia. Secondly it's not my ram as I have 1.5gb and shuved 4gb in there just to test to see if it was that. Thridly It's not my video card speed or drivers as I can play hl2, doom3, quake4, lord of the rings online all perfectly. It's something to do with the OpenGL implementation of the code in Pirates Online. It crashes when it hits a OpenGL bug in the game. I can get to the login screen and to the charactor choice screen and play around with graphics etc etc. but that doesn't help. As soon as I login to the game I see the back of my charactor and when i click the Tick on the dialog box it throws a windows error. This is hte error from the log ":display:gsg:glgsg(error): GL texture creation failed for multitex1 : invalid enumerant" |

Being that u are have a opengl issue, maybe trying the dx8 settings may bypass this issue, probs worth a try i, if u havent already. It's located in a file in main directory called 'game_options' (text file), under api, change 'default' to 'pandadx8'. 'Keep it Kool '

Thanks for the info Nick. Being that I am not a programmer, take the following with a mountain of salt (open mouth, insert foot).
I googled the 'multitex1' and found: Quote:
Perhaps...just perhaps...the OpenGL settings have to be set to 'Use application settings' and turn off the Triple Buffering and Force 24-bit Z Buffer. Surely your graphic card has a utility that allows you to set user-defined profiles...name one POTCO and change things around? I know those other games run fine but remember that this game is in beta. I am sure those games had similar problems when they were being developed too. Just spewing forth ideas here! -) Toodles, Dolnor Numbwit Eternal Old Newbie aka Will/Billy Greasefish

It's been a full month since the last major update to this game. That's not cool.
