new weapons good or not usefull?
with the release of the new weapons i think "wow these look awesome" then i look at the bonus and see that there is a 8+ to hit. do the new weapons really work for you? or does the weopon just look so good but does regular with no bonus in combat?

Well I seen the pistol in another thread... and immediately decided not to do the new quests... it looks like something they would of made in the 12th century... not the 17th century with its multi-barrels... :P

I have basically answered this in other threads, but for this exactly you need to say what weapon.
First off you must have the 4th level weapon to get these, so we will assume everyone had that. That is plus 6 to that weapon. So for new weapons we are talking plus 2 to what we had. Dagger loosing in the range of 25% in front attacks, that is 100 points in some things. Basically -100 + 2 = -98. Some have said its not to noticeable, so if loosing 98 damage in something isn't noticeable, than I am sure 2 points makes alot of differance. Cutlass as dagger lost ability to skip combos, or add to already taken combos previously learned over skipped other combos. So basically if you skip cleave and had flourish with 5 points, perhaps also hack, slash. That is 15 points. Blade storm another 5, parry a few other things the other 5. So future builds will take hack, slash, cleave, flourish, if even putting 5 points in all those you loose to something else. If you don't put 5 in all those you now have jut lost damage again previously had in the weapon. Even one point in skill is a good bit more than the plus two more points in the new cutlass/ dagger. Pistol, really only thing which is quite obvious, hex shot not working as before, so everything else on it gains two points, plus now a few spare points that have been made obsolete. Doll, staff, didn't see a degrade, so they have a two point increase to each attack. *** To elaborate a little maybe this will help some, and also maybe give a bit of view of whats happen with cannon etc. Staff using flaming skull maxed out is 600-1200, 8 more points from staff can make this 1208. But we had other weapons before so this actual increase would be from 1206 -1208 max. This is a increase of 0.16%, so the general area of 1/6th of a percent. Something like cur on dagger with 1 point maxes at 27 damage. Same thing as above with two points added to this makes it 6.1% increase. What does this show, that only low level skills with lower amount of damage does these weapons really add much of anything to. Higher level skills, which these are suppose to be higher level weapons, the addition is basically nothing. Now take something like cannon, out of the blue was reduced from 2100 to 1800. This is 16% of 1800 lost in a high level skill. This is like 100 times the amount these weapons add to our skills just ripped away. Think ya can get the idea as well now what this does to dagger. Eviserate max damage dropped from 510 to 408. 25% of 408 makes this 510. 2 points in dagger adds a big whopping 1/2 %. Last edited by TooHip; 10-22-2008 at 07:13 AM.. |

All I have been able to get so far is the Taboo doll. I thought it would be a separate item in my weapon inventory. But no, it replaced my voodoo doll. And added 8+ hit points. Great, but I have mastered the doll, so I don't get any rep for it at all. It was all a waste of time for me. I would probably not have done that quest if I had known that.

Like Davy I dont get reps for using them so really hard to tell...
As for looks...some are kinda cool while that new Pistol is rather horrendous...since it and the lvl 4 pistol are both 3 shots, why didn't they make a quad barrel: side-by-side-over-and-under instead?...that would've made more sense, plus probably looked alot better... The Taboo Doll should really be the level 4 weapon with the Pirate Doll being the ultimate one... The new staff is cool so I'd leave as is...probably same for the cutlass...and even the dagger I guess... But like everyone else...what good are they...truly what good if you've mastered either your Noteriety or your weapons? |

Although you don't hear about it much this pistol was used for fast firing during the 17th century. The barrels each had one trigger to the right of the barrel. Pirates(or regular people) would slam down on one and then the other as fast as the could for fast firing. Sort of a poor mans machine gun is what I'd call it. The new weapons are(in my opinion) only for show this time around. |

They don't increase damage that much so i guess I would have to say they are mainly used to show higher rank in weapon. The new sword doesn't look much like pirate sword lol
