Quite frankly, I need help with privateering quests.
I'm up to the point where I need to do 25,000 in damage to both French and Spanish ships, with cannons, without sinking. The problem is, I STINK at cannons. I can barely hit the broadside of a ship. I have to be right next to them to where you can see the people on the ship to be able to hit anything. And those few times I do end up finding a crew using Lookout, they're usually low level people and sink a lot.
I don't want to bad mouth my guild cause they had always been super helpful and nice in the past, but ever since the leader decided to take a break from Pirates, I'm usually the only one on. It would be really nice if someone here would help me. My character's name is Jami The Songbird. I want to get these quests done already. |

Yeah - my guild used to help - and I know some will view this as cheating but when you're utterly desperate - by being the enemy. We'd go to a quiet server and they'd let me fire at them until I finished my quest. They'd never fire back. And of course if they had a quest I'd help them in return. But now that none of them are online anymore I don't know what to do. I can't even crew up with the higher level ones to do it the "honest" way.

A couple of thoughts......
First, if you cannon skills are lacking, then maybe you should address that first. Level up outside of svs by grinding out. Put points in rapid reload and the other cannon buffs. Once you have the semi-automatic version of the cannon you can pump out a lot more rounds and leveling gets quicker and quicker. Put your ammo specific points into only the higher level ammo types - and then use those exclusively (as they will inflict the most damage per round). When your on the 25,000 point quest don't hesitate to TP "back for ammo" <nudge, nudge - wink, wink> if the ship's damage meter starts to plunge like the stock market. If you see red - run! As long as you're not on the ship, the points remain. Starting over is the worst.... I had a lot of success during those quest by hanging around the beach at a point nearest the ammo purchase point with a balloon over my head reading "... Gunner looking for work" or something equally cheesy. The "..." before hand keeps the message up much longer than a regular spoken phrase. And, if you see a crew forming - don't be afraid to ask to join. Fair winds....... perhaps you can join up on the next Agile, Hostile, and Senile reunion tour. |

The problem with leveling up my cannons is that I can never get on a decent crew. Same problem I have with privateering. I usually end up with a bunch of people who are between levels 2 and 10. They're too impaitent and end up taking on ships they're not prepared for. You've heard of a ship of fools? I keep ending up on the Ship Of Noobs.
I know I complain a lot but man, it does seem to happen to me a lot. I guess it mainly annoys me because they are obviously young kids who've never RPed before and don't know proper RP behavior. And I'm an adult who's been online role playing for many years now and know there's some things you don't do. |

Depending on level of ship your attacking, you can often get 240 reps (120 for cannons, 120 for sailing), by each taking a couple broadsides each from helm, and each taking turns at cannon, one should work on knocking out the sails for thier reps to help leave some for the other. ![]() More people and the ships tend to go down too fast, and not give that great O reps. ![]() SvS however, the more crew the better... more cannons.. doing high level damage

One thing I have noticed is that low level players seem to naturally be attracted to players at a much higher level. And, they quickly adopt a certain level of disdain for anyone lower than themselves.
I was lucky, I found a few other players who were at the same level as myself - or within a level or two. We were usually on the same quest path - with some overlapping. And, other players at the same (or near) level should have roughly the same strengths and deficiencies as your character. So, look for someone at the same point and help each other out. You'd be amazed how much more fun this game is when you have a group of friends you play with on a regular basis. And, don't be afraid to break the ice - initiate a conversation or three and see where it gets you! |

You could get friends to let you sink em, but that takes the fun outta it.

I've found the "crazy A" servers to be good for crew matching. To master cannons once level 24, I stopped using crew matching and sailed southwest of Cuba alone, and parked. To do that, you have to be able to aim with the mouse. Using the arrow keys is not accurate enough to hit the masts (ever.) Once the bad guys got within a 1/2 compass radius from me, I'd start sailing again.
Again, even though arrow keys seem to work, you cannot use them to properly aim cannons. That's why the Bo Beck training has you use the mouse. Difficulty aiming, 9 times out of 10, is because someone is trying to use keyboard to aim. It just doesn't work. To get my French tattoo (just dropped the Spanish quest instead of even trying) I had to use the "run-for-ammo-when-the-ship-I'm-on-is-yellow" method that someone described above. I got over 40k too many times...but a glitch ship would come along and sink our war frigate in two shots. Don't know what else to tell you there, but I feel your pain. |

I wouldn't mind low level players so much if they were emotionally mature and knew proper RP behavior.
Oh and Leon - I actually need 25,000 damage with cannons without sinking. And frankly it doesn't take the fun out of it for me back when my guildies would be on and let me do that when I got totally frustrated after several days of trying to do it on my own. Actually, it was more fun cause they'd act silly. Standing around waving. One would use that glitch that lets you run from one ship to another and run around my ship then jump back to her own. Oh those were the days! It was like some silly party. Last edited by JamiSings; 10-03-2008 at 03:31 AM.. |

a guy asked me to help him on his pvp quest (I think it was french) anyway, we took my ship (he's level 15 I'm 33) thinking a war ship would survive longer, and I tell him we need to repair the ship and he was gone, happened 3 times in a row, he'd leave! now I know why, he must of read these posts. It was really frustrating,
