The Power of the Dark Side

OK, so everyone knows my stance on cheating - I despise the pukes. So, what happens this weekend during the "contest"? Every pirate with a little knowledge is cheating their behinds off.

Friday night I joined the crew of a person on my Firend's list, and lo and behold, there she was glitching out on the sea. I was disappointed, but, I stayed on board and watched. I found out how she got around the latest "fix" to do the underway repair glitch. Either she didn't know, or didn't show, the invincibility or invisibility glitch.

Saturday, I get on board with another pirate from my Friend's list. We had a great crew and started climbing the scoreboard without glitching. We couldn't get to the top because there were two ships on the other side that had over 100,000 points (think they were glitched? ). But, we did good as a crew and got to #3 on our side.

As we're sailing, another of his friends joins the crew. He say "let me take the wheel, then bump me". All of the sudden we could repair underway. Now, the crew that was on there was already rocking. When one would re-ammo, another would take that cannon (war sloop). We had a pretty good rotation going already, so when we started being able to repair underway, the crew that were waiting to rotate onto cannon would be repairing. We caught and passed the ship at #2 on our side (50,000 points) and were climbing. I think we were at 85,000 points when I finally logged off.

There were a few of things that I thought during the weekend SvS excursions:

1. My guide to countering the glitch is being used to stop the people who are trying to counter the glitch.

In other words, I gave the cheaters a way to stop those that are trying to counter it. Worse, it makes it nigh on impossible to get close enough to do anything about it. Those ships are SO glitched, you cannot get close to them without lagging to the point of your screen not moving.

2. I actually had fun when we could keep up with the glitchers. We sunk the top ships on the other side quite a few times and it was very satisfying seeing them go to Davy's locker. My frustration level went down 5 notches knowing we had an opportunity to sink them. Unfortunately, they were using all three glitches, so the times we sank them were pretty long between sinkings.

3. Disney is hypocritical on many levels. Grog, gambling, <snip>, cheating at cards, bribery (basically extortion), and cheating against other players in PvP/SvS. While Disney's base perception has always been one of family values, this game teaches anything but family values. It encourages all of the bad things listed in #2 above. So, do we as fun loving pirates remove ourselves from the game, or do we adapt to the situation that Disney created?

4. I still don't like the cheaters, but do I make myself suffer by a) not playing; b) playing but getting my behind kicked by the glitchers; c) use the glitches? None of the options are particularly satisfying. Option d) glitch against the glitchers, play fair when no one is glitching on your server?

What do you guys think?

I voted 4, but should have voted 1. Uninstalling was curiously satisfying. Let me know if they someday set up a "no repair, round shot only" SvS server. The prospect of trying to do a glitch free match is too silly, when people don't even know they are in a glitch, and other glitchers are free to interrupt at any time.

I voted #2... but actually have not been playing recently...

On test and when it first went live - you couldn't get me off SvS I think when played fairly (before the glitches) it was great - the perfect addition for me to spend bucketloads of money on ammo on...

It is so unfortunate I - just once - didn't hit the F1 key by accident or on purpose when repairing my boat on test all them times I was playing there. I just never thought about it... I mean - I'm sailing, I'm testing EVERY sailing thing to try and glitch (and discovered the Hidden Rock on the left of the Spanish Isle) and reported every imbalence I could find... but NEVER though about hitting F1....

I didn't even realise it until today - but its been 3 weeks since I've done SvS. Now - RL has been very busy, but when it first came out I found 20 minutes a day at least to do a 'quick round'... then it just stopped being fun with the glitches.

In the end - I guess I'll still just keep sending in my reports, keep doing my tests, and hope that the devs are in the background working out the solution...

I voted option 2, but I generally choose not to play SvS. I enjoy enough of the other parts of the game to continue playing. I do however like to SvS when I get the opportunity with the right people who understand my perspective and dont glitch. Had fun Sunday morning AHS!

Glad we have someone on test persistent, and good at communicating issues to the devs (Max) hopefully they will get around to cleaning it up.

I dont like the idea of glitching against the glitchers... seems to make sense.. fight fire with fire.
But all it takes is one enemy ship not glitching to see you and say GLITCHER! boom now your reported... your now on the imaginary cheater list of those we dislike so much, such a small world.

to the mods...this post probably belongs somewhere in the glitch forum...sorry got off on a tangent.

i vote for 2,3 & 4

the invincibility or invisibility glitch

i keep reading about this but have yet to see apost which describes how to do it? when you say invincibility do you mean repair while sailing? because those ships still can sink if you hti them enough times.

the invisiblity glitch i think may be the same as the invincibility...is that correct?

I too learned of the take the helm then bump me request this sunday. that's first i actually heard how to do this one.

I'm actually in the camp now of documenting each SvS and submitting them to Disney.

so that said...

Multiple repair glitch - go to a repair spot, hit shift, hit F1, move on to the next spot, repeat. Disney has fixed

Repair while sailing - crew member takes helm captain bumps off helm now you can repair while sailing. Fix needed.

Invincibilty - don't know how to do or if it really exists (could this be repair while sailing?)

Invisiblity - not sure about this one although i have seen ships appear out of nowhere.

Opponents Ship health not showing - don't know how to do this either (could be just the game itself is bugged or a result of ship repair while sailing?), ramming will make ships health re-appear. Fix needed

Ships hiding in rocks - see invisibility as the ships that appear out of no where have been by rock. Fix needed.

please feel free to correct or update these as needed.

who are you, and what have you done with Rackat

i think he left the forum didn't he...something about trolling. LOL

Heh! I felt kinda weird being on a ship using any of the glitches. It didn't feel "right". But it did feel oddly satisfying seeing the glitchers sinking.

I still want to find out how to do the invincibility and invisibility glitches. There may not be a way to counter them, but knolwedge is power.

Invincibility - stronger than repair underway. Not necessary to have other pirates actually repairing.

Invisibility - does not show on radar and appears like as if coming out of warp drive on your stern. You don't know they are there until your damage meter starts going down and by then it is usually too late to move or fight back,

Assasination glitch - glitch off ship and walk on air to another ship. Attune captain or crew with Doll use like in PvP.

I don't know how to start the invincibility glitch, but I've seen it in use often enough. No, not the same as rapair-while-sailing + infinite repair. Hitting with ramming speed seems to still break it, though. The only clue I've heard about this, is that it is triggered the same as regular sailing (see youtube. Not the one where boats avoid you - the total invincible one where they fire at you and do no damage at all.)

Multiple-repair glitch still exists, just harder to do now. (Don't know how.) On Saturday, I was in my light sloop; I used grape shot on an enemy light sloop, killed both people on board it, and blasted their hull down to about 5% by hitting them about nine times, then a spy turned my boat. By the time I turned back and hit them with broadsides (5-7 seconds?) they were at 90% health...watched them blink to 100% even as they finally hit me (immediately sinking me on their first shot.) Two people can't repair any boat that fast, and there were no other targets nearby, for me or for them.

Invisible has a few different flavors: screen invisible, compass invisible, screen & name & compass invisible, yo-yo invisible. The yo-yo invisible one is really annoying, as they aren't invisible all the time, but they yo-yo like a broken flag ship. Ramming speed is an effective countermeasure for all the invisible glitches.

Lockup attacks. Not configuration settings as Max had hoped. Some attacks from some ships cause total lockups. Not like you've been shot (you haven't) not like you've been hit with grape either (you haven't.) Just total lockup for 15 seconds. Seems to always be when attack ship is using Leadership and Open Fire, and cannoneer is firing a rank 5 cannon ammo. Not sure what else they are doing to initiate the glitch, but it works FAR TOO WELL. Joining their crews and looking up their names on DisneyXD, is how I found the rank 5 correlation. Not sure what else is needed, though.

I was in SvS the other day and the crew were firing at an enemy ship that was on my compass, but completely gone to me (everyone else could see it - and im not just blind lol) Is that the invisible thing? When i fired it fired as if there was nothing there too. I have a lot of problems with not seeing their health bars but i'll try the ramming speed.

As for the Poll, in my opinion i hate the cheating, but i've been on many crews that have used the glitch and we lose it when we sank. So to fix it, get a good crew and just sink them over and over and get someone to use grape shots. That's the way i've found to stop the people repairing while sailing Very effective, once you've killed them a few times they learn to stay away from you; as if someone uses grape shots it stops them from repairing too giving you enough time to sink them and teach them a lesson that you don't need a glitch to be awesome. My guildmaster and i sunk 120 ships in a row when SvS first opened and that was when all the glitches were undiscovered. It's just a game, people get too serious with all the cheating and spies and everything it's rediculous.

I chose option 2....because I just love to sail. I don't even do the privateering quests (says something about needing to complete Fortune Quests when I try), I just sail around for whichever side looks like it needs help.

I find it rewarding x's 100 when I'm able to sink a glitched ship...it's totally awesome!! Plus, think of all the experience that I'm getting fighting against cheaters. They're a great training tool by making you find new sailing techniques and such.

I've noticed more and more that it's easy to find a server without cheating....which is TOTALLY FUN!!!! I was playing last night with 16 ships and none of them appeared to be glitching. Everyone was sinking, people were teaming up on the bigger ships (including me...lol..arrrrrr) and even using the privateering chat!! I couldn't believe it. It was really fun. It's always nice to go up to a 1000bounty war ship only to find that it's not cheating.

Great fun!
If you ever see the Storm Cutter War Sloop floating the ocean, come aboard or try to sink her(which has happened more than I'd like to admit)....I will never glitch or cheat.
