Hmm....
Pirates of the burning sea. I hear it's ship combat stinks but other than that it's fun. And yah harder than POTCo. I'd like to play it but I don't know if it's free or not. If it was free i'd try it out. I hear it's much bigger than POTCO. P.S. POTCO was open before POTBS so they could get more players. I wish they waited so the game would be better. |

AM, you were right about that 2hours+ of downloading... I couldnt believe it. Client was already 5-7gbs! Although I think alot of what it downloaded wasnt additional, but patchs to existing files. I was shocked when I saw a "Play" button. lol
I'll have to find that (nation chat, that is)! interface is, well intricate. Dont want to say complicated just because I dont know it yet. ![]() I may not have access to it is as a "limited" access trial member. It gave me a big list of what I cannot do as a trial member, but at that time, most of what it said didnt mean alot yet to me hehe. Seemed to me some common sense stuff that wouldnt let me get too involved in any economy portions of the game. Also defeating me, etc in the game apparently does not reward anyone. The few other "players" I saw in town ignored me completely (as I probably would have done them). It seems that regular players have gold names there, and us trial members have white names. Tonight i'll leave port and see if I can find another city/town to explore. I just remembered, the town it put me in was the town of "Jenny Bay" |

Yep Jenny Bay is the starting point for the British Nation. I never noticed the colors over the names much except the NPCs have one color, Players are green I think and your society folks are blue.I do have you in my friend list so I will see if I can find you. There are a lot of players that do not talk but the game is full of international players too so that may have something to do with it. I'm really starting to love the game. It does cost more then Disney's but at least I have no lag factor you have over 50 ships to choose from and can own 5. You have 80 ports to explore too. Well hopefully the limited access doesn't mean you can't talk to people. There are certain chat windows that only certain careers can access like Conquest is for for battle, trade is for the free traders. The chat window takes time to get use to.

For anyone moving from POTCO to Burning Sea, we have most of our guild (Blades of Daring) now playing that game, with a few more stagglers coming soon. So if you're looking to reconnect with some POTCO players, feel free to drop me a tell in game or send me a mail, Kathrynne Merivel - I rolled British FT on Antigua. If you're looking for a Society to join, all POTCO emigres are welcome
or if you just want some help in the game we're here. Also, if anyone is curious about checking out the game but is a little deterred by the purchase of the actual game plus the $15 a month price tag, I have some buddy keys that I don't mind sharing with POTCO players. That will give you 14 free days, plus the 30 free you get for buying the game. All I can say is that the game is unbelievable, although there are having some small problems with people complaining about the population imbalance right now on the various servers. Your server selection is really important. For instance, if you're a US player, make sure that you choose a US Server (Antigua, Rackham, Blackbeard) and European players are mainly on Roberts. Although at the moment, Antigua is the hot spot and Blades of Daring all just transferred from Roberts to Ant and we've found a nice new home. Antigua has the best balance of players right now compared to the other servers, so just keep this in mind when rolling your character. US players should generally stick with the US Servers simply for when it comes time to actually playing during your normal hours, people will actually be on and playing. When we were on the European server, it was dead since our prime time is in the middle of the night for them. Then, when you actually do something that effects the all the nations (such as grinding ports for unrest and all that, Port Battles, etc) the Europeans whine that it's not fair since they're all sleeping and can't defend their ports, blah blah blah, they call this night flipping. Which, I understood, which is part of the reason why we all switched It's a pain to hear them moan about it, so my advice is to just skip the messiness and go where the people are. If anyone has any questions about the game, feel free to contact me. Kat Blades of Daring on the Burning Sea Last edited by Kat Sheffield; 08-21-2008 at 04:35 PM.. |

Thanks am1974 for the opportunity to try POTBS. I enjoyed it the brief time I was able.
The graphics were beautiful, the game was huge. I sailed from Jenny Bay, Guyana (i think it was) to Biloxi, Louisiana my first couple of times in the game! There appeared to be all sorts of quests one could do, and probably redo, loads of content. However there were downsides I found. Player interaction is nearly zero if your not in a clique in the game somewhere. The only time I had any interaction with anyone in the game (other than chatting with am1974 a few times) was being forced into SvS (pvp) mode while just trying to get from one place to another. Ok this could be avoided, by sailing round the pvp arena (which moves throughout the map regularly). Ok, get sunk once.. ready to start my trip again, and boom another guy does it the second I leave port. (basically not letting anyone leave the port) This was my only experience with players in the game. I found the interface clunky and unappealing, as was anything to do with battle, sword fighting, sea battles, etc. I felt like a key jockey, not a swashbuckling pirate. There was no fluidity to the battles, seemed very halting. A key masher would go absolutely nuts trying to play this game. Click a key, wait 3 seconds, click a key wait 3 seconds... ug Im not a keymasher, but this was boring and there was no skill involved such as click speed/combination. Communications requires a huge ugly box that covers 2/3rds of your screen (dont plan on any chat and play at same time), it can be resized, but then sentences are hard to read 2 words at a time. Also prepare yourself for advertisments in chat. advertising selling levelup services... why level up your character when you can pay someone else to do it? My overall impression, it has a startlingly beautiful world to explore, seemingly endless. It was fun to explore, but the game action was very clunky and leaves alot to be desired. The players environment unfriendly. It's an interesting game to be sure, however I would say at 14.99 a/month, get the Sony multipass or whatever so you can play thier other games as well, this one alone isnt worth it. (IMO) Thanks again for the chance am1974! (darn glad I didnt buy it to find out) |

I had seen this game at Wal-Mart and had wondered about it. Let me know what you think of it, Zeppers. I'd like to know if you think it would be worth it.
Thanks for starting this thread! |

I played it for a few months after it first come out. Its a really good game if you have a newer computer and fast internet because it lags really bad if you dont. And if you have a lot of time to download updates for it cause they took forever to finish. I would definitely not play the blackbeard sever it has the most people on it (or at least it did when i played it) and the more people the more lag it has. If you dont like ship battles i wouldnt buy it because thats what it mostly is about. Theres a lot more clothes you can buy and you can have a peg leg lol. Theres lots more ships and you can paint them, you can make your own sails for your ship (which i love doing lol). Its definitely worth trying it out.

I dont want to completely disenchant anyone.. Anyone with an opportunity at the free trial I highly recommend giving it a go.
I gave "My opinion", and I know that my opinion is not always the popular one. It is a beautiful game, the game play definately didnt work that well for me. Hey you sailors, that dont like the winds blowing in all directions in POTCO? The wind only blows one way in POTBS (but it does shift/change direction) I did find that just sailing and looking around in the game was fun. |

I was a Beta tester in POTBS but didn't preorder and stopped playing when they went live. Too expensive for me lol and there was no individual cannon on ship, arrgh i love my cannon.
What i really like is the forum where devs and players can communicate and discuss the game. I hope one day Disney delegate one or two devs here as representative. That'll be cool. Btw, during Beta the walking/running animation for male character in POTBS was very feminine did they fix this?
