A *thankyou* and suggestion

A *HUGE* THANKS to the tech support staff for fixing the land graphics problem. And it appears, since i started playing and subsequently subscribed, that the server connect function has been improved. The gameplay lag seems to have diminished a bit too!

The suggestion is > any chance of upgrading the servers for capacity and speed? Or putting server hosts on the east coast of the U.S. for quicker ping rates?

Because all the rest of the stuff game-wise is great .. except for that time i was able to swim from Cuba to Port Royal thru the land somehow .. weird .. but even that was interesting and engaging.

Thanks again!

Happy tekking!

Decent suggestion, may definately help some lag issues, at least in regards to internet lag. But then it would only help the connection of the players to the individual server.

However it may cause some logistic issues within the game. There still would have to be an interconnection between the servers, which if distance is the culprit could even cause more bizarre things if the servers themselves lag in communication to each other. Unless you want to eliminate the friends list concept all together as well.

Well then .. how does WoW/Blizzard do it..?

It was my experience during the 6 month period that i played WoW .. there were very few times of lag with their servers. Same situation/location of servers i think .. no..?

Also in my experience .. i worked for Charter Communications for a year and a half. For quite a lengthy time, folks trying to use VOD/on demand viewing services would experience either no service/function or very laggy functioning, or dropping signal in the middle of viewing. After we upgraded server capacity, that problem went away.

It would be great to get some feedback in addition to your helpful input, from the admin/techy types. If for no other reason than that they are working on the problem for encouragements sake. Because, in this case, 'no news' is *not* good news. And i'll bet dollars to doughnuts that i'm among the majority of players with the same problem.

And .. just for the record .. the computer i'm using .. MacBook Pro, 2.33GHz core duo, 3Gigs RAM, 256Megs VRAM/Radeon x1600, 35Gigs free hard drive space, OSX.5.4, windowed game viewing (small window), with graphics options set for medium. And no other apps running. Also .. 3Mbps+ broadband.

Back to you Chet

Distance can definately effect network time responses, etc causing lag. Not questioning that logic. I was only considering the fact that all POTCO servers are interconnected. Having servers for example on east/west coast, may help an individuals direct connection to that particular server (east to east, west to west), but then it would create other lag/logistic issues with the interconnection of these servers (connected east to west).

Upgrading hardware accordingly to help distribute the load would definately help alleviate lag issues on the server side (not internet connectivity, but load related lag issues).

I think most of the admin/techy types around here are going to agree with you in regards to the primary connection lag/latency, and the location of the server a player is connecting to being a factor. What we dont know is whats involved with the numerous servers interconnectivity. Beefing up hardware will obviously help to alleviate server lag if that continues to be an issue.

Again, agreed. Wish we could tell ya what thier plans are. Unfortunatey we here at POF (Pirates Online Forums), are not POTCO (Pirates of the Carribean Online). I have not seen anyone post officially from POTCO on these boards (poor guy probably be bombarded), however i've been told thier development teams review them. Lets hope they do.

Sounds like a good system, although Im not real Mac friendly (me.. not the Mac, I know its sposed to be friendly.. hehe).

Obviously many people with excellent machines have been experiencing game lag of varied sorts. I personally think its an issue with one or both of the following:

A. Game Code/Engine - I think thier game code is likely part of the problem. I think its based on some other games they have at Disney, which dont demand so much action.

B. Server lag generated by high volumes of players, with high levels of activity. This is spread out over thier multiple servers. Further limiting the volume of players per server, and beefing up the hardware/memory I would only think could help.

Anyone actually from POTCO, or otherwise 'in the know' out there that would like to chime in?

Thanks to both of you for the input

Perhaps we'll see an improvement soon.

I hope.

They could stand to lose some income by not attending to .. or making it know they are attending to the problem .. sooner than later.

And i mean that in a nice way.
