Ship making, should it happen?

Changing ship hull and flag textures wouldn't be that big of a deal or cause more lag, as long as there were only say, 30 variations on each. Keeping the same shape, just rendered differently. I think 30 or so different sails for your ship would be about right, or maybe 30 color / styles, plus 30 or so graphics that can be put on them, that way it's fast, easy, and low on resources, while offering 1000's of different looks / versatility. At least as a temporary update.

I think hull color and cannon placement are fine, all ships look 'wooden' not too many people painted their ships back then, but I can see 4-5 different 'wood styles' if you want. Could even make them harder / softer wood with different advantages and disadvantages. But that's a bit much. Just make a store like for clothing.
