The whole language filter issue does pose a real problem when communicating with our members but we have alot of different aged ppl playing and u cannot control what everybody is going to say and how they will say it. I like that alot of the foul lanuage has been removed, which doesn't belong there anyways but I do feel that they can loosen the reigns alittle on alot of the general conversations that take place during gameplay.

I wonder if there is some way they could incorporate that high-pitched ring tone into the adult servers. I cannot hear it, but it drives my underage daughter nuts. That would be one way to weed out the junior players.

I'm only teen but I'll support you guys getting your own server. It seems perfectly reasonable that you get your own space, although I'll have to sacrifice time with my guild members, who are adults. :-(

Well, at least I might have to. They're probably going to want to play on the 18+ servers so... there goes most of my game... but it's worth it.

At least I still have my quests and weapons to level up. Good luck with this..

I would be ok with them requiring over the phone verification with a driver's license number, and card used to make account unlimited. I know that still wouldn't encompass all adults that play, but it would get a vast majority. And if parents were unlocking an adult server for their child, they would have to accept responsibility for whatever 'game change experiences' may occur. The person doing the verification would have to actually say a set list of major rules (such as 'cursing will not be filtered' 'this will enable the game to be played without censureship of D, etc. . . . )

I would be down for that, becuase I an adult with my own CC and I have a driver's license. I would think at least 90% of valid adults playing would. I would like to think more than 90%, but it is a D game, and I don't have the optimism about the general public that I used to.

The thing here is I would say is that Disney prides itself in telling parents that the content on thier site is kid safe. Parents want to be able to unleash thier children, without having to do what parents are supposed to do (monitoring thier childs activities). So Disney goes to no end to make it that way. Thier methods are obviously less than perfect, and quite aggravating when you start bringing in an older crowd of gamers.

Games like toontown, etc fit that genre, and thats great. They draw only the target audience (ie children) for the most part. Fitting the genre of a kids oriented game, in a kidsafe environment, excellent!!!

You start expanding into the pirate world (even the POTC movies were pg parental guidance) you have a genre that appeals to an audience of all ages, not primarily children.
How do you deal with this.

How do you make bloodthirsty pirates the game is built around... kid safe?

Question the description of "bloodthirsty"? Like Barbossa says in the first movie when Jack offers trying diplomacy... "Talk like that is what lost you the Pearl in the first place Jack. They'll be easier to search DEAD."

Yes, ive been told for example, you dont like it, there are many other pirate games out there.

Folks there are more POTC fans out there than you likely know, and they are not children. How many think that the POTC movies are responsible for fanship? Well in recent years perhaps, but not in my case. I grew up with Pirates of the Carribean. I've ridden the ride at DisneyLAND (not world) 100s of times since its opening at the park. Its one of the oldest rides in the park, and surprise!!! It has always been one of the MOST popular rides even before any POTC movie was even a thought process!

The first movie itself had several scenes taken directly from the original Disneyland ride! For example, the scene with jailed pirates trying to get the dog to bring them the key for example, has been a scene in the disneyland ride since it opened. The scene with Barbossa drinking rum as an undead... it streaming down his gullet (visibly).. taken from the ride. The idea of appearing skeletal with moonlight, was also derived from the ride, although it used 'lightning' as the light that showed the skeletons.

I knew that "Dead men tell no tales" long before any movie was produced, the jolly roger (skull crossbones) that appears top middle of POTCO has been at the start of the amusement park ride for years saying just that.

Its theme song? "Yo ho! YO HO! A pirates life for me" played throughout the ride, and sang by Captn Jack and Miss Swann on the beach of Rumrunners Isle (in the first movie). "I love that song" says Jack!

POTC has a place in my heart, and the movies adding a further storyline to the subject makes it just that much more my choice of pirates games. Either loosening things up for this game, or providing portals to 'adult oceans/servers' would ease alot of tension, and likely help to escalate revenues. It would also help serve those which have remained loyal fans for decades.

Zeppers lvl 40 - All mastered but lvl 21 cannons
Groggy McJones lvl 26 - All weapons quest/tp quest finished - avoiding story quest

Scarlett letter idea

I had an idea the other night they signify basic from unlimited by name plate colors i think they should devise a way to signify 18+ and if the ones lie about age or someone illegally verifies that for them they should have the liabilty

for the last week i have had all sorts of friend request and turned them down imediatly because i had found that a few of the friends i have were children - talking about adult themes to me but because of my suspicion and thier actions i just boldly came out and asked - if they were adult..... i got a few um ok bye whispers and then some were actually honest

I explained i liked to play with my own age and not to take it personally but i pay to play how I want to................ then i had to deal with a bunch of drama on why i xed them from friends someone followed and hassled me for an hour........... CRIMANY..... HOLY HORMONE DEVELOPMENT, I EXPLAINED HEY IM JUST AN AVATAR .....now please leave me to my plundering

i just really think it would be helpfull for both age gruops alike to know who they should run with.

alas this prob will never happen, but from now on i may be known in some circles as the pirate who says " uh not to sound like a pirate snob but are you an adult?"

LOL at least that way it will be documented in those millions of GB of un monitored chat logs I made an effort, oh my spelling is horrible but im a little hot about the topic

I agree. Thats why most of the time I go by the whisper feature. If they have a plus, I assume they are a minor. Child chat is what I call it.

DarkScarlett that was such an awesome idea i think Disney needs to hire you. Seriously. How easy would that be? We have to give our ages anyway, so there you go.

And it could be made understood in the agreement we all checked off that the Whisper feature is completely private and actually MAKE IT THAT WAY....even from Disney. (but, ok if they feel like they gotta snoop thru the whispers...cut some slack then because it's meant to be PRIVATE...lol).

i also think like SamuelMcMalley said..i think it'd do nothing but boost revenues if they DID offer servers or SOMETHING exclusive to adults only.

point is there has to be a way to protect the teeny-boppers and kiddies while giving us older players what we want too. Are the big brains of Disney not up to the task? Are they not SMART enough to figure this one out?? (hee hee hee.....sounds like i'm layin' out a challange.... but if that's what it takes, then hey! why not?)

I haven't actually read the whole of this thread, but I totally agree with the title, servers for ATLEAST 16 year olds up, should have less strict rules. Even if they adopt the system Habbo has currently adapted, let people who are over a certain age turn the word filter off. Nothing drives me more mad when I'm trying to talk and see 'Arrr!'. I'm not even going to get started on VMK! It's supposed to be a chat room, but it pretty much contradicts itself.

Totally agree with you, although some people might put thier age as adult, and go to the servers.

I am in total agreement with the 18+ servers and this is why. The other nite I was with my guild and all the guys in our guild left for a moment so that left me and the wenches. We were standing off to the side just chatting when this guy came up to us and started talking to us in local chat. You would not believe the stuff he had said to us. We were all adults and normally we do have a ten year old female in our group but thank goodness she wasnt with us that night. I have heard a lot of things in my lifetime but this guy was such a pervert. We reported him five times that night. There was no innuendos but outright telling us how he would and does wenches. What he uses and not use and then began to tell what he would like to do us in very explicit language. We told him this was a kids game and that he should not be saying those type of things. We have warned the kids in our guild to stay away from him and to report him to us as well as Disney if he persisted. I hate the thought of losing our kids in the guild but after the other night I think it would be safer. This is just my opinion of course. Here lately I have noticed more and more strange folks getting on board with this game and I think Disney needs to step it up and finally do something about these pervs prowling the game boards.

I agree Rose. I had oen guy badmouthing a noob as he came out of jail. I came up to him and basically said "Excuse me? You are aware this is a kids game?" He proceeded to hit on me and when i offered nothing in return, he kept throwin out foul language that was in local. Needless to say he was reported by everyone locally.

Ya know Angel that's another thing that irritates me about Disney and another reason we need adult servers like Rose said. What good does it to report someone on the game for acting like a complete and total jerkwad? I was on one nite and some guy was being SUCH a jerk...he kept calling people "Noobs", laughing and making rude comments -especially when someone would get killed by the Mercenary in the fort on Port Royal...he was being extremely obnoxious. Finally i said something to him that if he didn't like playing with other people why was he playing a game ONLINE? so he kept telling me he was reporting me...blah, blah, blah. i guess he didn't like being told he was acting like a creep...lol. So i looked his name upon the Directory...turns out *HE* wasn't even a paying player...and on there talking smack and acting like he was "King of all Disney"! So i copied down his guest # and reported him. the response i recieved was something like,

"thank you for your concern, we'll check into it, next time switch servers."

WHY should *I* switch when *I'M* not bugging anyone and just trying to stand up to someone for other people????

and WHY does Disney get all hostile at people for giving out EMAIL addresses when they won't even do anything about someone acting like a complete PSYCHO?????

i don't get it.

i just thought f something else..lol...we should start a thread of people who we find acting like jerks like that...post their name, and a description or something (maybe thier number or nick name off the directory...lol) and why they're being reported.....hahahaha....wonder if they'd keep it up if they knew they were becoming a public poster child for idiots like them....

This is the unfortunate problems that happen when you have 'free' sign up options. Emails used for authentication of accounts can be created on a whim at several various email host sites giving these creeps the ability to recreate bogus non-paid accounts over and over.

Other similar games have similar trials but are usually via invites from already paying members instead of a "Free for all" free for all.. lol. I like how people can play for free, but I think perhaps more stringent account authentication, etc may be in order to make thier agreements we all have to accept a bit more 'binding'.
