Sins of the Seas

Rum has long served as the lifeline of pirates in the Caribbean, the flow of such a delicate good swirling with influence from the first pluck of the sugarcane from which it is made to the last drop that slithers down the gullet of thirsty swashbuckler. It has been the deciding factor in both settling, and creating feuds, the deviant spark to many extravagant and often forgetful evenings, and on some occasions the noose that bonds a man and a woman together for "all eternity" - or, at least until one of them sobers up first! Almost every pirate in the Caribbean has found himself at the end of a bottle of the stuff, gleeful with satisfaction, after consecutive occasions of the sort one could assume that he had come face to face with something "higher than himself." And while the rum itself may seem as the divine king of the Caribbean, there is a source higher than that which is certainly not forgotten; gold!

If rum runs through the Caribbean like ships do in the sea, than gold runs like blood in the veins of man. Gold decides how men will live their lives, whether in a mansion by the shore or in a crate near that mansion's private dockyard. A simple coin has the power to shape history, and while rum is easy at dipping in to smaller, personal affairs (with sometimes political outcomes,) it is gold that rises and dampens the tides of nations. For many, gold symbolizes the earthly power to change ones fate and fortune for the better, and for many men gold has brought them strength beyond their wildest dreams. But for others, the underlying truth of gold is still very, very real.

There are seven principles which dictate the lines that exist between good, and evil. Not necessarily the evil that impacts the world around us, but instead our own personal worlds - and from that, the power seeps and corrupts the ground from which the diseased tread. These vices are what bond men of great brilliance to the earth, and what have ended so many in the tracks of greatness - these, the Seven Deadly Sins.

BOOK I: GREED

The trinity of destruction in the Caribbean consists of just three threats; though not ultimately power in separation, together they provide what may fulfill a mans wildest desires, or darkest nightmares. Rum, to corrupt the mind; gold, to feed the mine; and a beautiful woman, to hypnotize the mind. Men have lost their will for adeption and prowess because of these three things, and whether they lie high or low on their list of indulgences, just a taste is all it takes for a man to want more and more.

And as such is the case that we review today, in our own Caribbean. The allure of these three keys to power is what has driven a select group of men mad, willing to do anything to achieve what they want. And as such is the story of Ernesto Diaz, easily one of the wealthiest men from Pointe-à-Pitre to New Orleans. It is said that the gold he owns is enough to drown a group of a thirty men, and then carve them in to statues of gold to place them out in the courtyard of his villa. His long, elegant mustache is said to have been pointed with the tip of a platinum sword, and the woman that he keeps by his side are akin to goddesses descended from the heavens to serve his needs. The man had it all; but, he wanted more.



Diaz soon found himself employing the work of thieves, mercenaries, and pirates too poor enough to even support their own dignity. They worked for him running petty jobs, from smuggling illegal goods to kidnapping women of his choice. But in his dealings, he attempted the kidnapping of the "wrong" girl; a female pirate, leader of a band of a misfit crew operating around the island of Port Royal. Even though she herself has not made an acclaim to infamy, there is a pirate in her bloodline who has; her father's name is Delmaria Darkskull, and her name, Marina.

The fury that Captain Delmaria unleashed when he heard of his daughter's attempted kidnapping sent him in to such a fit he toppled an entire stack of barrels in to the bay of Tortuga. In a whirlwind he and his crew jetted across the Windward Passage to Port Royal, where they made sure that Marina, cut badly from a fiesty battle with her kidnappers, remained safe. And even though she escaped soundly, the rage in Delmaria's heart still burns for revenge.

He has called upon his own band of some of the strongest pirates in the seas - his own partners in crime - to join him on Port Royal to discuss the matter of hunting down the man responsible for this deed; and in the process, unravel something that may be greater than he was anticipating.
