They have to be upgraded versions of current weapons, don't they? If they were truly new weapons, they would interfere with the notoriety levels that the other weapons appear.
Other than looking cool, I'm not sure how helpful a new sword will be. Unless it "Life Drains" on every hit.  Of course, it will probably cost as much as a War Galleon.
