Any New PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Films Will Be Standalones, So Sayeth The Bruck!

If I have any complaints about the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN series so far, it's lack of focus. The first film could have used about 15 minutes shaved off, and the two after that were even more bloated. Perhaps it was because the filmmakers had a long form story to tell and lost the overall plot for the details, trying to fit an all-encompassing story in them. Well, Jerry Bruckheimer spoke to USA Today, and an interesting tidbit was revealed - not only does Bruckheimer have two more PIRATES screenplays in the works, but that any films released from this point will be standalones.

"The audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story," said Bruckheimer to USA Today. "So that will carry over into the next one, too, to give it something fresh and different. As long as the audience embraces this one, we’ll certainly try to make another one. It’s really up to Johnny. He loves the character."

Interesting. Although I am very eager to see all of this happening and I can't wait to see the fourth movie, I think they should have stopped at one. The first was the best by far. No questions asked. The others were off task and relatively boring in my eyes. Although there was action and adventure in all three, there was no followable plot involved. If it DID have one it was covered over by a sub-plot that threw everybody off.

I'm still eager to see what Jerry Bruckheimer (Another JB?) does next. He is a great collapse, but maybe needs to take a few workshops on screenwriting to be able to hold the attention of the audience.

This is bad news! Don't get me wrong I would love to see two new POTC movies as long as they are GOOD, but but the sad truth is, they probably won't be good. Anyway here is my personal rating of the first three. COTBP: 10/10. DMC: 9/10. AWE. 8/10. It would be sad if the next three looked like this, OST: 7/10. POTC 5: 6/10. POTC 6: 5/10.

I actually dislike the first movie. I LOVE the second and third.
