Guild PvP?
Recently a guild mate and I have been trying to get some 2v2 PvP action via the "team battle" option but every time we que up it ends up pitting us against eachother in a 1v1 situation. I've pvp'd before and bumped into fully guilded groups so im assuming there's some way it can be done and that the other grp (3 people) wasn't just extremely lucky. Anyone have a clue how we can que up together and be in the same crew?

Strange. The whole PvP system is pretty bad at the moment. I really hope they take some strides to fix it soon. I mean, once you cap your character out what else is there left to do? They should insure their end game pvp content is, at very least, running properly. I could have sworn they had advertisements saying it was a pvp end game type of game anyhow. For shame.
Oh well, hopefully I won't be forced to pvp against my guildies for the remainder of my time playing PoTCO. It gets really frustrating, really fast.

Actually, the bug Chris is talking about was fixed. ^^
To have guild PVP, make sure everyone is ready and go to team battle. You can't pick teams, but it'll put you on teams to play PVP with.

Actually from the times I've played, it sorts pretty good. It'll make sure if low lvls and high lvls are mixed, that they're distributed as evenly as possible then place lover levels with those teams. ^^

never sorts well for me,
last one i had was against a level 21, i found him hiding behind a tree after i searched the map for awhile, he went eeep! when he seen me, and i had to convince him i wouldnt hit him, and we just talked in the jungle till time ran out. he still never came within 20 feet of me though. usually when i pvp with friends, it does always put me against a friend on my list (Barba Azul) and my 2 other friends level 34 get usually the same sides we had previously. so theres some sorta matching going on i guess, but other times its a bit of a chance or just lopsided, i wish we could specify whos on teams before hand, like a a dual sided pane with the pirates name and level, and just choose sides by pressing a button marked switch sides and ready up like they do in fps games and whatnot, thatd be cool! I remember your name i think, i lost to you, all of you had dolls and ran around after attuning, was 3 vs 2, so yeah sometimes the matches are not fair, i had one teamate level 33 i think, and you were all 35 plus i think. if you have a level similar to your guild mates, it will usually put you on opp sides either way, you were level 38 or so i think, so dont hold your breath for a good matchup team member, ive been playing off and on here and there, and ive NEVER had a teammate above 34, most seem to be 24-27, maybe its just the times i play or something..but still, at least give me someone I CHOOSE as a partner, or someone compareable to their team levels, dont handicap the higher leveled players by giving them weak teammates who can beat NO one on the other team, because the other team will MOST likely have two players level 35 and up, and the guy cant beat either of them in a fair fight, he simply cant damage them enough, so how does this seem right? because i cant beat 2 level 35 people alone, one will heal or both will attune, plus with a tonic i can never take down enough health before hes back up, so both of us get nerfed before we even start..lame. seems sometimes i wait for almost 30 mins for a match to be found, and then when you join, they take ages sometimes. so thats why i wish someone takes notice of the original posters plea for a change as well, it needs to be more structured with more options. like for example just throwing these out there, i hate the tonics, for obvious reasons (is there an option you can specify matches with no tonics?) if not there should be...as well as deeper pvp systems, custom rules (cutlass only, pistol dueling? play with dolls? that sounds silly..but grown pirates playing with em yet.. like options like that, as well as match kill limit, surrender/forfeit option if youre outclassed or just outclass someone, it feels bad to keep beating on them, even if you are a pirate. tug of war (im sure people know what i refer to) and people who are searching for the same type of rules can join. wagers and all (money, clothes, weapons, maybe even a skill point?? high stakes! not sure about thatl..but still interesting..not sure how forfeiting would be really applied against wagers) and last, why cant we pvp with people where we are at? i mean sometimes people **** me off and i would really like to do bad things to them, so why cant i issue a challenge in the middle of my ship for my crewmates to watch, wouldnt that be the perfect way to take out stowaways?? send em overboard when they lose, and off to jail they go. or just being able to fight anyone, except for people who wish to avoid this can simply set an option on like parlay or whatnot..thus making them impervious to pvp harm, both attacking or being harmed, so they can finish quests and such. but then again..that brings up the pistol issue..no shooting not dead people. we can drink rum and gamble, and use sharp stuffs.. but not that, i dont get it sometimes.. |

From what I've gathered they "balance" teams by adding the levels together. For example; yesterday I had a match of me + 24 (64) vs 19/22/25 (66). Now the formula they use tells the game this is balanced but what they don't take into account is that those poor gray fellows couldn't kill me through the duration of the pvp fight if I let them. The damage reduction from pvp is massive as it is, but you throw the damage reduction from level difference on top of that and it makes me virtually invincible.
While games this unbalanced are very uncommon there are still major balance issues that are common and exist like me being constantly paired with someone whom is 8+ levels lower than anyone on the opposing team, strictly because I'm 40. The other team ends up chasing around the lowbie for easy kills putting excessive pressure on me to carry our team to a win solo just because I might be 1-3 levels higher than our opponents. You bring up a very good point about queue times as well. I generally wait in queue for 30 minutes to be placed in one of the aforementioned scenarios, sometimes longer. I generally log off wondering why I even bother and shortly after coming to the forums for "a break" I end up back in game waiting through the drudgery. Shifty~ |

I guess that if you Skirmish someone, they will be on the opposite team, whereas if you just join the game you will be placed with anyone.

I've taken an interest in PvP, not because my charecter is formidable enought o play, but I hope that it will be 'fixed' in time when I become a 'formidable' player.
As it stands, it kills me that the teams are selected randomly (albeit against a weak 'balancing' algorithm) . I'd really like to see that algorithm applied to a manually formed team. One that allows you to select your team, and then only allows the game to begin once the algorithm has approved the balance, or ALL players choose to bypass the balance algorithm (Bypass particularily useful when the algorithm is still weak). I'd like to see this implimented becuase it means that my friends/guildmates can build special charecters with focuses specifically for team PvP with roles. (I.E. a voodoo healer, a cutlass chopper, and a Pistol whip and/or staff master). Being able to form a team with special builds can infinately increase the awesomeness of what a 'build' means. Also, if you're having so much difficulty finding high level pvp then you should adopt an officially unofficial high level PvP server. |

PvP isn't determined per server. All players from every server in queue for pvp are thrown into a pool and this aforementioned algorithm is then applied to select "balanced" teams. It would be really cool if they made a FFA PVP server though were we could attack each others boats and claim our own camps.
I'm all for the algorithm being applied post team selection though, i mean doesn't it seem like common sense to implement something like that anyhow? Why do crewed members that join games skirmish each other rather than play as just that. . .a crew. Shifty~ |

I'm not sure if the system has been improved but I actually managed to get a team game for the first time today, before now the best I could get was a 1v1 mayhem.
Still needs alot more work doing to it as far as matching you up with someone who stands a chance at winning and getting a match with a team of your choice, I love the idea of a PvP server where the whole world is the battleground or they could give us the ability to declare war on other guilds so wherever they cross paths they can fight like on SWG. Did we cross swords earlier ShiftySwagger? That was a great fight and my first 40 v 40, till then my highest opponent was a Lv37 which was still too low to provide a challenge.

Yeah, we did twice actually while you were on Tobias and multiple times while you were on Billy McBones. It's hard to come by competent opponents so it was definitely a good change of pace seeing you on your 40. Hopefully I'll see more of you in there, I'm generally jumping around PDF all day chaining cutlass styles while I wait out the 1 hour queue times.
