Jack rushed out from the tavern, a bit groggy from the mix of rum and his sleepiness, but his determination overpowered his strains to stop running. He painfully headed toward the burnt building. Wincing, he stepped into the fallen timbers of the disaster that almost cost him his life. He made his way to the spot where the flower had been...

...It was gone. Either the flower completely disappeared, or someone had swooped in soon after and plucked it from the ground.

How could anyone pick a flower that survived a disaster... Jack thought. It certainly must be bad luck, to get rid of a life that survived fire, when it is flammable. That survived being possibly crushed!

Jack sat down, careful to see if the construct of the building was still aflame, and sighed. "There goes my one chance... My one chance to save her..." Jack sobbed into his palm. He heard a footstep and quickly sat up. Through the tears in his eyes, he saw a thread of blue string around the spot of where the flower had been. He wiped the tears from his eyes and looked at the spot... to find no thread in the spot. Jack heard nothing else go bye and possibly take the thread away. He sobbed some more - it was all he could do. After a few minutes, he heard another footstep and sat up again. There was the blue thread. Realizing that he couldn't see the thread without water in his eyes, he kept the tears going and picked up the thread.

Suddenly, a thin mist of blue barely floated in the air. The wind picked up, threatening to rip the thread from Jack's hand. Jack realized that this could be his chance to find the flower - to follow the mist that was so intimidating to him.

He got up, brushed off the dirt, and ran after the trail of mist into the unknown.

Hopefully I can get back into writing more often. Hehe.
