Black market
The Caribbean is a corrupt place, savvy? so they should add a black market system. you could by stuff from merchants, then sell them at another island, but navy should be able to search your ship. they would shout into a megaphone whether you want them to board you or not. most people would say no, and blow stuffing out of them. also, i think you should be able to set up a stand (away from the navy's eyes) and start selling what ever you want to sell. (El patrons lost sword, the dark mutineer, dread repair, dark hart long coat, etc.) also, i think you should be able to go up to store merchants, see if they want to transport stuff to another island. for example, i go up to a deaf gunny's weapons shop on padres, he says he wants to sell some guns to another gun smith on the black market. he would pay you. you would get on your ship, witch is already loaded with his black market goods. i'm sailing past a fleet of EITC juggernauts who wants to search me for black market goods. i already know what they want, el patrons weapons. i say no, so they start shooting, and me crew takes down several, but they fire several explosive and my ships is crippled. they board, and start attacking my crew, but my crew manages to fight them off. (or, if they won, they would take all the goods, and blow my ship and everyone on it sky high) we sail on, and land at tortuga. i walk to his shop, turn in my quest and he gives me the payment for the weapons. i would take it, but if the gun smith on padres doesn't get his gold, he would tell the navy. so i launch my war sloop, i get there, give him the payment, and he gives me my rep and loot.. soon i got to tortuga to restock my weapons, and find that he is now selling some of el patrons weapons that i delivered.
So basiclly i set sail off padres loaded with black market loot, stop some eitc's from killing me, land at tortuga, give him the goods, get the payment, head back to padres, give the gunsmith there they payment for the goods, then i get my rep and loot. what do ye guy's think? like i said, the Caribbean is a corrupt place, so we need a black market in the game. |

Um blowing up ships and people? a little graphic. And I dont know when actual pirates were around but i do know they absolutly DID NOT have megaphones.

Interesting, but not really a Disney thing. Sounds to complicated, maybe if it was explained in a different way and simplified.

Forgot to include this in my original post, but they may not want to call it a black market, because the black market is usually associated with... things that shouldn't be discussed on the forums.

We may be overthinking this...
To effectively have a fair trading system, there must be a neutral third party. My thought is that an NPC (Like a Peddler, or a Pawn Broker) would act like a bank - holding your item and then posting the price YOU set. If the item sells, you either get the money instantly OR you have to go back to the Broker to get it - minus a small commission fee (after all they are business folk). The Black Market concept assumes that you're selling illegal items. But, if you're a pirate selling ANY stolen wears - it's illegal. Granted that they could ADD contraband for instance. Like some items not allowed on one island but okay on another. If that were the case, then you could only transport them via ship and have to get around blockades or inspections as written before here. That's where we may be exceeding the game's limitations. I would be happy with the Pawn Broker or Trader idea. However, this further gets complicated that a Broker would then have a sizable shopping list as pirates try to unload their extra Famed items and it would turn into a bidding war. Again, probably beyond the game's realm. My own idea I posted sometime back is a Trader who only holds the item until the other party gives their money then the exchange is made - likely thru a code. This would also mean you could give friends a nice item for merely a single gold as a gift, etc. But only the parties doing the trade would know the item and price. Its a bit dumbed down but doable. |

I was thinking players could set up stands where they could sell there weapons, but the stands could be stormed by the navy/eitc. there also would be NPCs there where you could sell your stuff.

If we could have stands, we would have Captain's Quarters by now. But, its a nice thought. Just too many players, not enough real estate for us all to have our own stand.

Easy. Make it so only level 40's could set up stands, and put a limit on stands per island.

Trading... stand or shop, that's not important.
The mechanism for a trade is. My concept is pretty foolproof. You go to a shop, put the item up for "sale" by having the shopkeeper make a likeness of it (ancient photograph if you will) with a description of what the seller (you) expect in trade for it. The next time you visit the shop and talk to the shopkeeper, if anyone was interested, they would leave images of their items they would use in trade (gold could offered as an item as well). If you are online, you are immediately notified of the offer for your goods which you can either 1. reply in text as to why it wasn't satisfactory 2. reject the offer outright 3. accept the offer which IF BOTH PARTIES STILL HAVE THE GOODS LISTED, THE EXCHANGE IS IMMEDIATELY DONE. I think that covers almost every situation, is clean, and not too difficult to implement. Oh... the exchange page looks like two sets of slots, with the items for each party in each set, ready for exchange upon approval, and an area for a text message that might have standard expressions to accommodate the speed chat plus crowd. |

You should be able to do that only with NPC's with players it would get to complected. Both m Stand idea and your idea is pretty foll proof, i think it would be a great idea to add both. What i dont understand about your idea is why they shop keeper would sell it for you. He gets nothing out of it.
I was thinking that you should be able to sell your weapons to the shop keeper. When you talk to him, there would be a new panel that opens called "illegal goods." There would be a window that shows what players have brought in, and you could buy them, but you would have to pay triple what it was bought for. it would be easier to just buy off a stand. |

If you do do stands, it isn't fair to just allow level 40s to do that. Not at all.
I have a different idea, that doesn't involve any physical area... Basically, you would go to the Lookout in your seachest, and there would be an option saying "Auctions". This would take you to three buttons: "Auction Out Item", "Offer For Item" and "Check Current Auctions". If you go to the "Auction Out Item" button, it would take you to a little page similar to when you are selling an item. You would click and drag the item you want to auction into the box. Once you place that in, some other options open up below it. One of them, the first one, says "Starting price". Here you set the starting price for your item you are selling. It cannot be above the selling price for it (the one that you get from selling it in stores). Then below that is the buyout price. You can choose to not add one if you like, but you can set it as high as you want. There is also an option to make the buyout price a certain item. You can type in the name of the weapon/clothing item or whatever else you want, and then click a little side button saying "Make this item buyout." If you misspell it, there will be something saying "Did you mean...?" with a short list of what you probably meant. Next you set for how long your auction will go. You cannot have it go on for more than one week. You can choose to manually end it, or you can just wait for it to time out, in which case you exchange with the highest bidder. They could probably add a few more options. The "Offer For Item" button is different. In this one, you actually put out money/items for a person, if they give you something else. For example, if I am desperate for a Legendary sword (which I am guilty of...) then I could enter in 50,000 gold. People would see this, and then if they wanted the gold, and they had what I wanted, they could enter this, and we would exchange. These will not time out, and will last until you get what you want or you take down the offer. The check current auctions simply allows you to see any current auctions and bid on any one of them. Also, there should be an option to trade privately with a friend. Some people have already discussed this. This should be a separate button on a person's profile card. When you click it, you can either give a gift, in which case you enter what you are giving, or you can trade with them, where each person would make an offer and the person can accept or decline. Anyone like my ideas? Or did I just sit here and waste five or ten minutes of my life writing them?! o_o |
