why are guilds attacked

there seams to be a general consensus that it is probably that they have nothing better to do. do you really think anyone has so little to do that they would thin pulling people apart is fun. no one is that pathetic they probably have an excuse to do what they do. i have some ideas why people would do this but what dose everyone else think. also try to think beyond what is the general consensus if you are just going to say that then don't post here. i'm not saying what they do or did is ok but we should try to understand them if only to stop this from happening again

This us a non issue now, guilds cannot be deleted anymore. Officers can now no longer boot more than 5 people a day.

Though this may be a "non issue", but as one who lived thru the first "guild wars" attack on POTCO, I can identify with the consensus, plus the fact that there are just plain old, stupid, mean, childish people out there who get their jollies doing that sort of thing. '"Keyboard bullies". I hates them, precious....

My small guild fell victim to this before the most recent update. I traced the cause of the mass deletion to a lad who was upset my son would not teleport to revive him. He was an officer and had been one for about 6 months, and a member nearly a year. My son plays but can not read well enough or type.

The offender was a teen who got mad and had a bad day. I know of other guilds that were infiltrated for the sole purpose of eliminating them.

Now this is not worth the effort, due to the update.

It happened to my newly formed guild back in 2008. It was sad but I lived with it

Now it is not an issue. There is no use grieving about the past. There are those people out there who'd just like to vent their anger out by doing such things... But we should learn to manage them.

It's there for every game. So I think this topic is a tad too general.

what no one seem to realize that they can still destroy a guild or at least cripple it not even the people that would do that there most likely won't be attacks on guilds for a while but lets hope they do it for pleasure and don't really have a good reason but if they do mark my words guilds can still be attacked but lets hope it doesn't happen again. what they can do to a guild is worse then just taking there members i won't tell anyone how as it could be used by someone who would do this to a guild. honestly people who do this are most likely not smart enough to do this and then they wouldn't it would be to difficult to do.

There are really just two basic forms of attack. One comes from outside, either as part of an ongoing squabble or pirates simply being malicious or as a result of an internal struggle.

1) Infiltrator - This is the most blatant and insidious. At one time, members from a couple of guilds were actively trying to become members of the major guilds in order to move up their ranks. I'm sure that some guild still have little sleepers in them from pirates wanting to keep tabs on other guilds for some reason.

Either by patient waiting to be promoted or being instantly promoted as a recruitment promise, these saboteurs would then purge as many members as possible until caught. Smart moles could feign ignorance or point fingers to more disrupt the remaining members.

Granted this has been addressed by the update, but psychologically an infiltrator can still cause issues of paranoia if they can remove members when they are on alone since there is no trail of purging.

Not a lot you can do about infiltrators, except DON'T GIVE AWAY PROMOTIONS just for joining. We in the ETC had a young member who was with us 3 months before being promoted and then later admitting to be a saboteur for another group. Lucky for us, no damage was done.

2) Personal Politics - A lot more common really. This is when an officer or a group of officers break away or have an internal issue with the GM or the other officers. Sometimes, its even more personal as friendships break apart. Either under threat of removal or demotion, they lash out and do as much damage as possible.

The only protection for a GM in such circumstances is to quickly DE-mote officers they feel may have a growing personal issue or grudge. Some members in some guilds will likely never get promoted or re-promted due to fears of reprisal following such disagreements.

Either of these is obviously childish and immature, but many take the game either very seriously or don't take the relationships of guild members seriously enough. The real casualty of these things is trust. Members become weary after any attack and their guildmates fall under suspicion - so in that respect, the sabotuers win. You have to fight that instinct and show them that your guild is better than that and only grow stronger from it.

I used to have a pirate in a guild to keep tabs on them. Why? Because the guild is officially dead and only a few members survive. I did this to get the word out that the members reached a consensus to make a new guild that would care about them, and tell them where to find an officer for recruitment. It's not always wrong.

EDIT: I left out the very important fact that I was in the guild for a long time, and decided to start the new one with other veteran members.

I call these people: viruses. They like to invade guilds and deliberately kick members to be cruel and to laugh...

So many reasons. People may do it because they simply find joy in it. Others may do it because they are working for someone else, and pretend to be "bounty hunters" and what not. Others do it out of anger or revenge. There are infinite possibilities really.

Sometimes, a guild just might be jealous of one and another,
like they said, infinite possibilites, mate.
