Legendary Weapons, why?

What are Legendary Weapons good for except as another collection like treasure? There are no really difficult enemies to fight. Before you say Red Rage Ghosts, they only drop a hat that my pirate would not be caught dead wearing. The traitor ghosts and other meanies on Raven's Cove are easy for a 50 and El Patron's final stand you can solo. So why do we have these powerful weapons without the challenges that powerful enemies can supply?

Two things: Gloating rights, and PVP.

Who doesn't want to gloat that they have the most powerful weapon in the game? And with abilities like Ghost Form and Silver Freeze, along with already superior attack, it's hard not to want to kick your enemies' pirate booties with them!

I have a different take on why they might have legendary weapons and why they could be put to good use in the future.

They could be giving out these high level weapons to get us ready for the long awaited next chapter, I would hope that it would come with many higher level enemies and tougher bosses. Otherwise no there is no real good reason to have such high level weapons in the current game in my opinion.

Meh. I guess you're right, but isn't there just a magic about having them? Like going to Neban and smashing his puny head in, then freezing him, then finishing him off with over half his health left with blade storm? See what I mean? Overkill is big in MMOs don't ya know? :P

You seem to be assuming that only level 50's will be getting these weapons. Yes, in that case, there isn't much to do with them other than gloat and for PvP at the moment. However I believe that for someone below those levels, a weapon like that can be quite useful.
