How do you create an active guild?

I was wondering if someone could give me advice on starting a guild? I've never really made a good active guild before, so could someone please just tell me their technique? Thanks in advance!

The best advice I can give is patience. A strong guild isn't made overnight.

Try your best to help all the pirates in your guild, make events, and most importantly, Start a conversation

Pretty much what others have posted.
Create events and work with your guild as much as possible. Do invasions and treasure fleets together.
Help others as much as possible and encourage everyone to help one another. A guild won't be successful if the members don't work together as a team and get to know each other!

An important factor to remember is that an active guild requires an active and involved GM. Guilds die out quickly when a GM becomes inactive for several weeks or months. I would suggest getting to know players before inviting them into your guild. I prefer guilds with no more than 100 members. I prefer quality over quantity. Once your guild starts to grow you'll find that you will have a core group of active and involved players in your guild. You'll also find that you'll have people who join but you never or hardly ever see them online again. This is common and as guilds get big they tend to end up with an inactive majority, but with a smaller core group of people who work at keeping the guild alive. Its important to keep this core group active. Don't get discouraged if some people join and then leave guild a day or two later as this is common. Best thing is to start with some planning as to what you would like your guild to be and recruit accordlingly. Its good to have some codes or rules in place and make sure that every new recruit understands and agrees to them before recruiting them. The rules don't have to be complicated just common sense things.

Well, if you ask me, you can't start a guild alone. If you are starting a guild, get friends to help build it with you, it makes it a lot easier if you have a group of trusted friends. Its hard in the beginning, but once you get a group of loyal members and officers, you are really good to go. One of my oldest friends ended up becoming my loyal Co-Guildmaster.

Make sure to keep people entertained. For guilding, I find it good to go for lower levels, usually unlimited because they are almost always guarenteed to stay active, but that is just in my experience. I was talking to a loyal player in our guild who is almost level 30, and she says "Davy, you know that when you guilded me, I was a level 5?" I was just like, woah. Getting the younger players is a good tactic, as they will grow up in the guild.

As others say, it doesn't happen overnight.

Take a look at some of the more "active" guilds here on POF. What's the common theme in most of them? Friendship.

The one thing I like to make sure in PNC is that every member feels welcome right off the bat. Whether a member has been with us since the old PIC, or are fresh out of the oven, they all deserve to be treated like family. The fundamental of creating an active guild is through having your members look foward to something when they log on, and if you can do that for them, I guarentee you'll see some serious improvement in activity.

Of course, this requires work. 99% of the time, you don't become best friends with somebody through a single experience. Start out by getting to know each of your members on a personal level. Say hi directly to them. Compliment them on something. Get to know, what do they like to do in pirates? Do they need help with anything? Do they want to do this, or that, with you? Progressively, you need to show them that you don't just care about the pirate, but you care about the person behind the pirate.

As for recruiting?... Well, I really can't help you there, seeing as how my guild and I hardly ever spend time doing actual recruiting. All I can tell you is, if you're recruiting for the sake of recruiting, you're doing something wrong. I usually let the members come to me - if you see a pirate that seems to be having trouble on a quest, help them out. You'll be surprised at how something so little as that can form such strong bonds.

Yes, I'll need some help, I might be able to get some good friends to get the guild off the ground. My friend also suggested to find some lower level pirates that don't have guilds and help them do the quest they need. Best place for that would probably be Barbossa's grotta if you think about it. All player's need to go there for a gun, plus it's the first place off of the welcome server. Thanks guys!
