I also use a wireless connection, it does cause somewhat of a lag but not enough to where things don't register, maybe your just not finding the right spots, when I did this the spot was not in a forest or anything, I think it was the spot by the tattoo parlor down from the shipwright in the half boat, it was kind of in the middle of the land..
