Lag Question, since Live Chat is NO help...
I'm having MAJOR lag issues on any ideal server. No matter if anyone is around me or not. I can kill, for example, an Assassin with single siege charge. 3-5 seconds later, while they're still attacking and moving (and I'm not attacking), they will fall over and the rep/loot drops will appear. Mind you this happens with any enemy be it land or sea. It's only been an issue for about 2 days, though today it was worst. I sent a bug report and went to live chat, who I had to prompt for answers of any sort and was fed up with by the end of the chat. Copy of my live chat text in case anyone wants to know what their answer was. (The same as always.)
Chase: I see you are seeing some lag while playing Pirates. Stella: Yes, it's only been a problem for the past couple of days Chase: Okay, I am looking at the bug report you sent us right now. Stella: Ok. Chase: Are you playing with a wireless connection? Stella: Yes I am. Chase: We recommend using a wired connection for a more stable and faster connection. (About 30 seconds of no other response followed this...so I finally typed something to get them to answer further) Stella: It isn't an option for me to play on a wired connection though. I haven't had any problems like this until 2 days ago, why would it suddenly come up as a problem if it was my connection? Chase: There can be a lot of factors when using wifi, the logs show your ping is over 1000 ms. (Not even kidding...a full minute before I decided I wasn't getting any explanation on this and AGAIN had to prompt them) Stella: Which means what, exactly? Chase: It takes 1000 milliseconds for your game to talk to the servers, a normal connection is about 500 ms Stella: Well aside from connecting via wired connection, is there something I can set differently, like graphic settings? Chase: You can try lowering you graphics settings in the options menu. Chase: Also is anyone else using the internet while you play, that could increase lag. Stella: I'm not sure, my roommate has the main computer on but I don't know if they're using it when I play. I will find out next time I log on and see if that helps out. Chase: You can also be sure not to use to much bandwidth on your computer while playing. ![]() Mind you all, we have very reliable and fast internet. I'm not sure why 'my pings' are so high, unless it's something to do with our service just having connection issues. Magically enough, I can manage anything else I want on my computer and there is no major issue with slow connections or anything. I'm sick of hearing that I need to have a wired connection as I know for a fact that yes, wired connections are going to be better but that is NOT an option for me at all and will not be. Anyways, apologies for the long-winded post. I was asking for something along the lines of changing my settings from DirectX9 or something. I know nothing about what those mean (the settings on the launcher) and have been told in the past to change them but apparently today I'm only gonna get one answer from the weekend crew in California. Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated.

Ever since the fishing update, I have noticed more lag on my computer as well. I have a good computer, only about two years old. I play on wireless and normally I don't have any problems with lag... until now. My loading screens seem to take longer, and I also have the lag that you describe. I think that it has something to do with the fishing update... because as I said. ever since then my lag has increased.

My loading screens are horrible...I forgot about that until you said it. It takes forever for me to get into Ft. Charles, much less teleport. My computer is going on 3 1/2 years old but has a totally new hard drive with barely anything on it (thank you random computer virus!) so there is nothing but my firewall running in the background. Thanks for the response Davy, glad I'm not the only one having issues with this...

No problem, I was wondering too. I think that this has got to be on POTCO's end, because I have never had lag problems before (exceptions are GM events, Abassa, and some during invasions, but there is always lag then). Its not unbearable lag for me, but it gets annoying...

The lag has been happening for a lot of people, including me.
I guess it has to do with updates or something, not sure. But I'm sure it will get worked out soon. Just gotta deal with it for now. -_- |

I hope they fix the lag as long as it does NOT have to do with lowering graphics.

I'm having the same problem. I shoot ships on SvS and have to wait for them to sink. I think I have at least once sunk another ship and while waiting for the inflicted damage to show had myself sunk. The cannon mini game is unplayable as of right now for me. My cannons fire at a normal rate but the ships are stutter stepping around on the screen, its alot like trying to fire with a strobe light going LOL. I hope they fix it soon but if I find a cure I will let you know ( I'm hard wired in by the way ) .

I got the EXACT same response. BTW, I play on quiet servers. As soon as you say you're wireless it's your fault and that's the end of it. I did a pc tuneup and still I'm freezing out and lagging. I think there's something in the coding from the last update. Whatever it is, it's getting old.

I wouldn't say that. I played on wireless on my laptop forever, and had almost no lag problems. Since the fishing update I, and my brother who plays on connected, have had lag problems. It has to be something on POTCO's end.

It will always be Our Fault! Even if you have The Internet sitting right next to you with her finger attached to your computer they will still tell you:
A) Play in a Quiet Server. B) Lower Your Settings. C) Play Connected over Wireless. D) Get a Better Graphics Card. E) It's your Connection. F) All Of The Above. |

I thought like 150ms was like normal. Not to also mention I thought ping was different than latency?? (Hit Shift + F6 too see if you don't know what urs is while in-game) I thought the ideal latency should be about 130ms & ping at like 60ms. That 500 ms is WAY too high for even both. I'm so confused. I thought latency was how fast ur computer was matchig the game info on the game servers & ping was the how fast ur computer is getting info from the game servers. When I'm lagging, my latency is like 500ms & ping at like 100ms. When I'm lagging really bad, like when my antivirus is updating or Windows Update is running, I get like over 100,000ms sometimes rofl with like 600ms for ping. |
