They range between 17-20, and maybe 21. I had to sink three yesterday, so I just went around the same area. Port from Port Royal, then sail to the right. You should find some phantoms, but maybe a few Revenants.

I like to sail around near Cuba. You can usually find a Phantom or two there, and it's not crowded with lots of other high level meanies that will get you.

Also, with Phantoms: the best way to sink them is to stay behind them as much as possible. Getting in front is bad, since Frigates have those front cannons, but they have a harder time shooting you from behind. Good luck!

Wrong. The Skeleton ships do not fire from their bows, or at least I havent had one do it yet and I've killed tons of em. The best way to to stay on its bow keeping enough distance to make it keep turning into you while constantly bashing it with your broadsides. When you engage them from the rear, they just turn and fire off a quite damaging barrage of firebrand and thunderbolts.

Unless the AI is bugged, most ships will always turn into you once engaged to close distance, exposing their bow until they get within a close distance to turn again to broadside . Even with normal frigates that can shoot forward, its always best to receive a little damage rather then allowing a chance for them to broadside you.

Yep, I completely agree with Spagz. I've Mastered sailing (lvl 25), so I've sunk a lot of ships. I do most of my sailing solo, and use the same technique that he mentioned. Works well, and you can take out high level ships pretty easily if you're patient and watch the seas around you.

I agree, I don't think i have seen them ever fire out of the bow.

If anyone is interested in learning some techniques for killing large ships visually and in person, I can take you out on the waters and show you how.

Just respond here or send me a PM or get with me in Game.

Also the Phantoms under level 20 do not have the fury shot which while cool to see flaming skulls flying at you, not so good for the hull.

I have had pretty good success in attacking from the rear with broads, dropping sails and turning for the other side broads, lather rinse repeat until sunk.

I need to try attacking from the bow to see if it's any better but it's a matter of waiting for the right orientation and surroundings. I had one lead me into more traffic while I was going for the kill and woke up groggy and in jail.

So you guys know, Ive seen lv 40 ghost ships. I havent took one on yet, but I know i could if I had a good crew who dont shoot at everything. Ive took on lv 35 before by myself and my sailing is lv 13. Its not hard to dodge incoming broadside fire...I mean its not hard at a good distance.

I've found that the safest way to take on the high level ships is to stand off a ways and drop lightning balls on them. I've taken the Juggernaut a couple dozen times by myself this way. That would probably explain why my cannon skill is at 20 and my sailing is still 15.
