My Preference for Ship Types...

After owning a light sloop and jumping straight to galleon (Unlimited, heheh) I went on a few trips with it, bought a sloop, and used it ever since.

The galleon 'supposedly' has more armor, but fighting the Kingfisher (Firebrand broadsides) it seems like the sloop can take a very nice licking and keep on ticking. The galleon just gets obliderated, despite its thousands of more hull points. Honestly, just fighting low level ships with their basic cannonball, a few shots and you're looking at 4/5 health already.

The other reason I prefer my sloop is that while it may not be able to take much as a pounding (supposedly), it just doesn't get hit! It's SMALL. The galleon is a big wall of wood, not to mention its weakest armor is the largest part of the ship. With my sloop I can literally outmanuever their cannonfire in all situations except very very close range.

So far all I've found the galleon useful for is lining up from very far away, firing the broadsides, dashing to a cannon, firing the broadsides repeatedly and praying that they don't get close enough to shoot you. That just doesn't seem like naval combat to me.

Either way I just bought a full-sized frigate and I'm going to see how that works out.

First off, the Galleon is slower, which is why it might take more damage, which is why the more hull points comes in. Also, the Kingfisher does not have Firebrand Broadsides; it has navy men which can use the Firebrand skill. The Galleon is pretty good for Cargo, and has better broadsides than the Sloop. If you have good sailing skills, you could outmaneuver any other ship. I know this, since I used a Galleon, got full Cargo, and made it back to port without any hull point loss.

I prefer: Lights: Frigate. Mid: Sloop. War: Frigate

The galleons are GREAT for saving up your money though. Get a big crew and fire away!

I like the galleon for it's broadsides and cargo space.

When sailing my galleon, and understanding that it is slow, I stay in front of the ship I'm attacking to limit damage. Works very well for me. Love filling up that cargo space

I say that if you don't have enough people in your crew to fully fit a Frigate, then take a Galleon. The broadsides take cover for the missing crew members.

i bet u always never sail fully crewed
for one i highly doubt u have had 11 other people on ur ship at once and if so why its way overkill no ship on the game needs that many cannons 1 good cannon man is gond enough to take out any ship on the game
let alone having 11 crew members would cause mega lag and freezing for all ur cannon men

*Shivers* Ugh, my Galleon... it was pretty much the worst ship I got. First, I saw many OTHER Galleons around. 2nd, it sunk to easily, since the front is sticking out SO much! It may have a lot of HP, but it doesn't matter. Your Galleon WILL sink very easily once you get one! 3rd, no front cannons! I like the Frigate much better than the old Galleon, and soon, I'll get a War Sloop. If you get a Galleon, you'll be in for a scare. (And a waste of booty!)

Sail them right and they won't sink. You can go out run after run for full cargo.

Well, the Galleon will sink if you go against a skeleton ship, with no crew. If a thunder bolt hits the front... BOOM!

Stay well in front of the skeleton ship and broadside it while zig zagging. It will follow you but not shoot at you unless it gets close. Keep the enemy toward the edge of your compass.

Not if you know what you're doing.

I've gotten fairly good at taking down Revenants while sailing solo in my regular Galleon, sustaining little or no damage. Either hit them from in front or behind and keep maneuvering so they don't get broadside to you. (I actually find Revs easier to sink than Phantoms, which, though they are a lower level, seem to turn faster and fire more frequently.)

I really dislike the galleon when i am on cannon crew. The sails and the raised front and rear of the ship block the view alot. I prefer the sloop for its openess or the frigate for being open and having great bow cannons.

I personally am saving for a war galleon. I have a galleon now and 95% of the time I sail alone and use my broadsides, and I am able to sink Navy war galleons, ghost ships, EITC War sloops and galleons etc WITHOUT BEING HIT.

The best way to do it is position yourself infront of the ship and fire until the other ship is close enough to start turning. When they do open your sails and sail STRAIGHT. Do not turn until after they fire! Then turn and fire your broadsides again, they should be charged at this point. Then repeat. It doesn't take long at all, and with a few speed upgrades galleons are wonderful ships. I like getting alot of cargo so a frigate is definatly not for me, and I actually know how to sail so I rarely get sunk.
