The Beasts Below

The day dawned grim and dark. Clouds lay over the sun like a shroud. Soon their plan would be set into action, and their master would be one step closer to total control of the islands.

"Sir, a navy ship is anchored in the mouth of the cove. Permission to fire?" the lad, young as he was, was eager to fight.
"Nay." Seeing the disappointment on the boy's face, the captain continued, "Ready ten of our men. Take them for a quick swim, aye?" The boy looked confused for a moment before realizing what the captain meant.
Face lighting up, he said, "Aye sir." Then he ran off to carry out the orders.

It was the time of our every sailor dreaded. The time when the moon was setting in the west, yet the sun had not yet risen. Bleak it was, with no sounds of life. Nothing but slight disturbances in the water. The navy cadet quickly dismissed these as being the work of some fish or other swimming about beneath the waves... At least, until a fog began creeping up the side of the ship. M'eyes must be playing tricks on me. he thought. He was tired, and his watch was almost over. New as he was to the Royal Navy, he was still un-accustomed to the early hour shifts. Creak. What was that? He was just considering going to get someone to take his place early, when suddenly he heard felt a hand on his shoulder...

The ship had been taken quickly even by the captain's standards. Now they just had to get closer to shore. The going was slow, as they didn't want to wake the fort garrison, armed with its shiny new turrets. Those'll have to go soon. was his only thought.

To his crew-members, it seemed as if their captain had taken a blow to the stomach. He kneeled on the deck, salty sweat pouring down his brow, his eyes wide with shock. "It can't be." he muttered. "It can't." To the captain, it was as if a shroud, thicker and darker than that which covered the sun, had fallen on his mind. Worse still, he felt a second presence; a presence he hadn't felt since he had died; since the crimson jewel had brought their deaths. Rather than coiling his mind, it created such a vivid fear, that he only barely held his sanity.
They weren't close enough to port. The beasts shouldn't have come this soon! Faster than he could react, the tentacle on his mind grasped him and pulled the bulk of its body into his mind. A tentacle shot through the ship, breaking through the bilge, and slithering its way up through till it reached the upper deck.
"No. It shouldn't happen this-"

A resounding crack of wood and the screams of horrified townsfolk brought the garrison in Fort Charles to attention, ready to fire at raiding pirate ships. Instead, what they saw took all will to fight out of them. Two enormous beasts swam towards the docks. One dragged along its immense body by undulating its thick, slimy tentacles through the water. The twisting arms pulled all who watched into a hypnotic state, crushing all hope, yet deadening the pain of death. The second was a huge serpent with ivory teeth protruding from its huge maw. When one of the cadets finally found himself enough to fire, it simply bounced off the sleek black scales that covered its body. Its very being seemed to cause fear and awe. Unlike the other beast, which seemed a deranged demonic beast of the deep, the serpent seemed a forgotten deity, feeding on its dominance over lesser beings. They saw each other, and then the fight began.

Tentacles from the first creature coiled around the great serpent, hoping to crush it as it crushed all in its way, but the scaly monster broke free, and bit into the 'head' of the slimy demon. The snake howled, and the seas rose, flooding the lower houses on the shore. The tentacled beast pulled boulders from the cliffs, and hurled them at the other. On they fought, and far into the next day. Port Royal was torn apart, and still the monstrosities of the deep raged. The serpent seemed to be winning, having torn many of the slimy beast's tentacles from it. But the beast was not done yet. It lunged.

Deep in the jungles of Cuba, a group of robed figures stood, swaying and chanting. Green energy crackled from their fingers, forming a ball of light. It flew away. The gypsies had done it. A new god had risen.

A green glow on the horizon made all fear the worst. What manner of beast what this that came now? It came, a glorious sight. A human, but grander and tall like a mountain. It landed a solid blow on the tentacled beast. The beast was sent reeling, but the serpent was near behind it. It wrapped around the being's arm, trying to inspire the fear it always had in this new creature. The god merely glanced at it like it was a minor annoyance, and taking a great rock from the sea, smashed the beast's head in. It flew and hit the slimy beast where it now lay.

In a voice both great and terrible, the being spread out its hands and said, "Go demons of humanity. No longer shall you plague them in this plane." So saying, it reached down, grabbed both creatures, beings of humanity's weakness, and plunged them beneath the waves. With that, the god, if a god it was, dissipated into the earth. The Caribbean was safe once more. It was no longer needed.

Tell me how you like the ending of my series of stories. I may start up another if you liked these well enough.

You are really talented at writing. I loved reading your series of stories, you're very good at describing what's going on, mainly through symbolism. Definitely continue your series.
